I am sorry to hear of your experience, both the experience with the car AND the online reactions.

One thing I would suggest is that there are a lot of people who lose their "inhibitions" when they are online.  They act like complete animals and let it all hang out.  They have no fear of repercussions of their behavior.  It is like their personality changes completely.  A Dr. Jeckyll/Mr. Hyde type thing.  This is why so many discussion groups are of such low quality.

What is funny is that many belligerent people online, "can't back it up".  Perhaps that is why they act so poorly.

Fortunately, there are some good forums and discussion groups, with decent members, such as this one.

As a man, I will NOT go out with any woman unless:

A). I know her from a mutual friend/business associate.  If there is a mutual connection to someone, that very much reduces the likelihood of something crazy happening.  Not 100%, but it keeps people in check if they know word will get back...

B). OR if there is no mutual connection, I'm going to talk to her several times and get to know her before doing anything with her.

I am sure for a woman it would be even more important.
