This means she has something to hide . . . like a boyfriend or husband.

This seems quite likely to me as well.

I'm on this forum to add snarky comments now and then for my own amusement.

Address on Rubinshteyna?  The whole street is famous for its line-up of restaurants from Nevsky to well past where Valdimirskya Metro is the street is full of every kind of restaurant imaginable that on a weekend you need to have a reservation for, if you are going to open a restaurant in SPb, that is where you want it to be.

Zhokovskogo? Really?  I will admit I am a 'foodie.' It is a hobby of myself and my wife to eat in good restaurants, we probably go out to eat 3 times a month.  I can't think of a single restaurant on Zhokovskogo where a meal for 2 would be 3-4000.  Certainly not one where the food or service is worth that, its all mostly cafes, awful sushi chain places, and i think there is a буше there?  Where on earth did you go that cost you 3-4000 RUB for a meal?  I understand why your husband got food poisoning.

Well, it's meal, some drinks and tips if we liked the service. I'm not sure if the place I liked was exactly on Zhukovskogo, or on some nearby street... I know it's not far from Nevsky prospect, but I was there just once, so don't remember the exact address. But the bill was around 6000-7000 for 4 people. Though it was less expensive than Terassa (which is next to the our Lady of Kazan cathedral)... By the way, as per the food poisoning, my husband got one only in the restaurants where we were usually invited by our friends. They live in Spb, so they are supposed to know some nice places (misconception, unfortunately).

my husband got a food poisoning a few times there, so we are picky
What the hell is going on with men's stomachs in FSU? OK, I can get Americans used to  purified food so some dishes in FSU can be threatening for them (my interpretation of many reported cases of poisoning of WM in FSU). But your husband is a Russian, how restaurant meals can be poisonous for him? Though true connoisseurs may risk their life to taste some rare sorts of French cheese or japanese fugu, at least it would explain your prices.

He's been living in the US for many years (I think it's over 15 years now, he came to the states in his teens), you know, his stomach got used to American and homemade food.
The worst part of his food poisoning was that we were supposed to come back to the states the next day...

By the way, I got a food poisoning when I came to the states, that was the reaction to simple tap water, I had to buy water to cook for myself at the beginning.
There was some skin reaction as well, though less severe. Thanks god, i got used to water. So you never know how your body reacts to even harmless stuff.

Find another woman who'd love to see you step off a train and into her welcoming hug...

not so sure i'd recommend that, either.

a guy who writes and skypes with a woman daily for 2 years and never visits...

frankly, i wouldn't wish that on another girl.

i'd like to hear more from the op (the whole story), but from what little i've read, i'm not very impressed.

I just wanted the answer to the question about whether money is necessary before coming to the UK. I think I have my answer now.

Have you make any plans to go to St Petersburg?  Has she accept you visiting her yet?

Just remember, it is long way to go to St Petersburg for a failed WOVO trip.  You will need a Plan B just in case things do not work out with her.

I live in the UK and we still retain pounds sterling.  We don't have Euros here.  It is very possible that the UK Border Agency would ask her if she can support herself.  The UK government tightened up the immigration rules a LOT in the last 5 years.  There are also going to be entry tests, by the way, about how much English new immigrants with marriage in mind and planning to live in the UK know in the future, so that they can integrate.  So this experience doesn't surprise me.

The basic rule I was told was never to give any money in advance, so I would be wary of this one.

It's not just possible, it's listed among the visa requirements  on their web site.

"You must decide which documents will best support your application. We advise you to consider providing documents that contain:

  • your accommodation and travel details

I would not even waste the time and money going to see her. I can tell you by all that I have read that she is scamming you. She has no real intentions of building serious relations with you. I apologize for being so direct but, it is as clear as day the answer here buddy.
She is full of answers and more so, excuses. If you want to try your luck with a beautiful Eastern woman, do yourself a favor and book a trip to St. Pete...you will find what you're are looking for, I just would not waste any money trying to capture her.
Cheers mate...

...and if I remember correctly, that's roughly a week after he sent the money to gal and she eventually got the visa and went to meet and stay with him. I heard she's a gorgeous, horny blue-eyed beauty and they are now dating and contemplating marriage.

Tell the suka

Folks, I would like to draw your attention to this commercial member who refers to a russian woman, and a date of his potential client as a "bitch."  Makes me wonder if this is a habit and he calls all his female clients that way, or all RWs.

Much for my love of Russia the country has many "Sukas" and Im not even going to go there on the subject Ukrainian "Sukas" who are out to scam Western guys.
Do I call my female clients "Sukas" of course not! Why should I need to, unless they are found to be scamming in which case the "Suka" will be kicked straight out.
For me I know for sure no NORMAL women would ever ever ask for a guy to send her any money! Especially after a few chats on the net.
And any women who does Im sorry to say is a "Suka" thats fact!!

I'll copy your post here, just to make sure it is preserved for educating your potential not clients.
It's not the point whom Russia or Ukraine or USA or UK or "elsewhereintheworld" has, and not the point who scams whom. However your choice of language must be reflective or your personality, business style, customer service, and general attitude to women (and people).
For me I know that no NORMAL guy would call women in their generality as bi-tches, and no NORMAL guy would use the words bit-ch and bit-ches 5 (FIVE!) times in 4 sentences of conversation with a random woman, and will start these words with capital letter to make sure he delivers his point.

I don't think he is referring to the nicer term "bitches" but based on his American thinking and what he describes I believe he wants to be a bit more emphatic, if you know what I mean.
To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783

сука; there are some terms I never use in the FSU, ever. That is one of them. Were I to use it, it would undermine my credibility to the point that it would take decades to rebuild. Just because I may hear a RM use it doesn't mean that I'm obligated nor deigned the freedom to stoop down into his latrine.
