Nope, this is not a joke, which is quite sad actually. It's just an observation. "Gonna go to the FSU and buy me one of them "animated, cheerful and playful"  puppy ladies. :(  A "thoroughbred" one no less  ;D

Much to your relief, I certainly would not pursue your type.  Thus, we both can be happy.  You with yours and me with mine.

The point pitbull is that such emotive, imaginative people are more expressive than a stick in the mud.  I found it refreshing that she is also optimistic and cheerful, and eager to play.   If you say that is impossible, this discussion is over.

Down blue Willy Down! phew, sorry  :P

An anorexic can give you an erection?  Shakira is more stimulating to me, especially when manifesting her Lebanese roots.

I am sure Muzh with his Latin roots will have better material.

Oh, I say this is very-very possible! But I would rather recommend a cocker-spaniel instead  ;)

I mean having deep and profound conversations, to assess compatibility on all possible levels. I find very high IQ and ability to have a stimulating conversation incredibly sexy in a man and this is what I fall in love with.

Stimulating conversation is wonderful and I do look back fondly on my university years and all the wonderful conversations over a pint or two (or three). However, it is also important to acknowledge that relationships can be founded on something other than conversations, and no not sex. Some of my most prized memories of the last years spend with my wife include long bike rides, great hikes, continental camping expeditions, and so forth where conversation was limited. True, my wife and I shared a common language (Russian), and we do have conversations on a range of topics, but I will highlight the importance of time spent together that did not involve sitting down and having a conversation to our relationship.

And enjoying each other's sense of humor - ability to joke in a different language happens on high learning levels  :D

I am blessed that my ability to tell or not tell a joke was not on my wife's list of 3 requirements for a husband. I expect it was a reaction to her father's personality: he is great at telling jokes, the life of a party, but he did like women a bit too much and he can't be counted on when he is needed. So, my wife put the "sense of humor" way down on her list, privileging other traits.

2 points, unlike some (likely the many here on RWD):

1. I can still have an erection easily.
2. I didn't have to buy a wife,   :P

I'm jealous - it is so much easier for guys to have an argument - all they have to do is to pull down their pants and compare the size...

No offense, but this sounds like you are describing a puppy, not a human life partner.  ;D a puppy you can have sex with

Well, so that's why it didn't speak English. I suppose nothing's lost or gained in the conversation aspect of that transaction. Although I'm not sure about the 'sex' part from the doggie's point of view.  :( No hope there...poor thing.

But hey, visas aren't required for dogs going to Thailand anymore...

I'll bet my pants are bigger than your pants; whether pulled up or pulled down.

Muzh,

You started an interesting topic prompted by what you observed with an AM-RW couple you know personally.

Not sharing a common language does introduce more risk.  I shared my story and received some comments questioning it as well as some comments insulting me.   I would never recommend this course of action unless the man planned to take a couple of years to see how it developed before marrying.   Even then, I would expect the decision to be a "No Go" about 75% of the time.

In telling my story, it has become even more apparent to me that my wife and I shared much in common.   Our telephone interpreter even remarked that she had never worked with a couple with more compatible personalities.  I felt such but could not come close to being sure.

Suffice it to say I was lucky.  There is no need for further comment from me,  even if I am insulted again.

Give the word to lady? :)
The language is a big problem. Yes we studied English at school and university. But we had no spoken language at all. Therefore, to read and write we can. But we can not talk. For example, I perfected my English when I had communication with international organizations to work in charity. But I could not speak and was afraid. Now I can not speak too BUT! If I do not speak in English often I ever have a problem again and again - for language practice is essential!
Almost all children learn English in school - if you have the patience - you give a woman a chance to rebuild and strengthen her knowledge. If you have chemistry - body language and emotions will be a good start.
Knowledge of the language is a very important component of any international marriage - a woman must have work, communication, social status, and this is not possible without language`s knowledge of chosen country. If a woman does not want to learn the language, does not have learned ..... it will be a huge problem for the whole family, I think so.
