I appreciate all the different types of advice here. The issue isn't solved but it is being worked on. Other folks are being brought in now, and yes I have talked to both professionals and family members. The family members are there now. This isn't a case of money, or whether or not I will "shell it out". That is a non-issue for me. I needed advice to make sure of a few things concerning mindsets, and perceptions.  Thanks again.

It's good news to hear that you are making progress toward a resolution of the problems.  Your desire to help someone in need is a good reflection of your character.  Best of luck on the resolution.

Maybe you don't want to answer this but have you ever met this friend in person?

Hello again all,

Just to give you an update on what is happening with Erica. She is coming back to Texas in two days. Her treatments will continue here in Ft. Worth, and the outcome looks good. Apparently there is a large number of young ladies in the Moscow area that feel they are "too fat" regardless of the actual weight. So she had developed an eating disorder. I can't do anything for her friends that are still in Moscow, but I can do something for her. I didn't want to put this out for public display because of the way that some people will delight in cracking jokes about things that can hit deeply on others. She is a good kid and I do love here deeply, like a little sister. So to me that makes her family. I don't know if you are familiar with Native Americans, but we will move Heaven, Earth and Hell to protect them. I again apologize if I seemed rude or ungrateful in my earlierposts and I hope to build a lasting friendship here with you folks. Thank you for your concern about a young lady that none of you had ever met.

Good to hear that she is doing better. If you are Native American then check out the Native Siberian people and you might find some interesting connections in culture.  ;)

Each year a music group named "Pakarina" comes to Russia to perform. In 2011 they were in St Petersburg and other cities. In 2012 and again this May they came to Belarus and then Moscow. I could be wrong, but think they are from Peru or Ecuador.

Neither are Native Americans.

Correct, but the similarities in culture and traditions my be of interest to the OP.

In fact there are many similarities with the Buryat people of the Lake Baikal area.

LMAO!!! I opened the first picture, ok cool. The second and OMG I thought it was my cousin on the right. The third and Holy...one of my other cousins. I started to get worried about the fourth one and sure enough I thought the lady second from the right was my aunt. Best laugh I have had all week. Thanks I needed that.

On a side note I think I know where we get our horsemanship from. I have always had a theory about the way we look and act but I have never had the ability to prove or disprove it.

Although similiar, I'm not certain that there are traceable links. Such is above my pay grade.

That being said however, I invite you to visit Russia and especially the area of Irkutsk and the Buryat people living near the largest lake in the world, Lake Baikal. Next would be the Republic of Altai, and then in the far eastern Sakha Republic to visit the Yakuts. Google each of those and I believe that you will be interested.

Lake Baikal is less than half the surface area of Lake Superior, between Canada and USA, but has about twice the volume of Superior due much greater average depth. Personally, I look at the area of the lake to judge its size relative to other lakes.

I appreciate the tips. TBH, I'm headed to Moscow next summer. This is a place the I have wanted to go to for quite some time now. Even though my ex-gf now lives there I still want to see it for myself. If anyone has any ideas of where to check out, feel free to let me know. I will most likely start a new topic somewhere else concerning this though.

werebear, good to hear that your friend is getting help.   Good luck with her recovery!

BTW, we lived in Dallas for year and a half and went to Ft Worth quite a few times.   Used to be this great place called "Caravan of Dreams", we saw some really cool performances there.

In volume, Baikal holds more water than all the Great Lakes combined with approximately one-fifth of the world's fresh water reserves. Baikal grows enough each year due to seismic activity that scientists say it will at some point be classified as a "sea." It is fed by 330 rivers with only one outflow so continues to grow in volume annually.

I went to Listvyanka (village on the southern shores of Baikal) while on business trip to Irkutsk.   Very pretty road going there - rolling hills covered by conifer forest which were turning yellow (it was in autumn).   And couple of years ago we went to Little Lake Baikal - Hovsgol Lake in Mongolia.   Very similar scenery, only on a smaller scale.

Actually, there is a traceable link.  It is widely accepted that Native Americans descended from Eurasians who migrated across the Bearing Strait when there was no sea due to glaciation (10,000+ years ago).  This theory has been supported by DNA.

Carbon dating of recent archeological discoveries suggest that another group migrated from western Europe even earlier than the Bearing Strait migration.

Some years back, I was in a man's office in USA.  He had a beautiful rug or blanket hanging on his wall.  It looked identical to those I had seen for sale by American Indians, that I had seen in museums, etc.

I asked which tribe or state he had gotten it in.

He said, none;  I purchased it on a business trip to Kazakhstan (or one of the other stans, can't be certain of which).

You have my sympathy.  A parent, sibling or friend feels helpless when a loved one has an eating disorder.  The condition is severe and life threatening, and there is no magical medicine nor a surgical procedure.  Showing that you care, avoiding stress, and following a motivational program are probably the best you can do to help.

I know because my younger son was diagnosed with such.   The consensus diagnosis after years of testing:   "eating disorder of an unknown origin."   He has recovered and today is independent and competent.    His recovery did not begin until his mother and I divorced while he stayed with me in the family home.   The solution came not because I am ideal caregiver (which I am not) but when he eventually decided to take responsibility for his own nourishment.

Interesting, never heard of that. Any details available somewhere? No ships at that time, only canoes, how could they have managed to cross the Atlantic :o?

Sandro, I read this  info that Gator posted also.  I think it was in some recent issues of Smithsonian magazine which is highly reliable.  Don't have the issue number right now as I pass them on after reading.

It is only a theory and not widely subscribed to by many scientists.  The dating suggests settlements in the East existed long before the heretofore oldest settlement, Clovis in the West, and so ancient as to have been established when a Bearing Strait was impossible.
