Name names or be quiet.  You have written nothing substantive for or against human rights in Russia.  I am not a gay lover but I do think people should enjoy civil rights even when they are not doing anything against me.  Putin makes no logical argument for his persecution other than to score points with a disaffected constituency.  His power can't last.

In other Pussy Riot news,

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jan/09/pussy-riot-court-solidarity-protesters

Pussy Riot pair visit court in show of solidarity with anti-Putin protesters

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina criticise trial over Moscow clashes as 'politically motivated and biased'

By the way, I don't agree with pussy riot, their tactics or the type of Russia or civil society they are building except that it is free and they are the only EFFECTIVE opposition against Vladimir Vladimirovich.  Pussy Riot is to Russia what the Ayotollah in Paris was to Iran.  Judgment is coming and the post-Putin Russia will resemble more of their ideas as strange as they are than that of a normal free society.
I named named and just wonder if you can understand how a Russian journalist can move to New York in 6 months without a spouse. I am sure many people here would be dying to know how to arrange it.

As for Pussy Riot being viable opposition, that is about as true as that you are having a fiancee who adores Russia.
The amount of people who support them inside Russia would not fill the Bolshoi Theatre.
And if Russia would be free just as Iran is, I doubt you would truly support the change.

There's the Artist Visa O-1, the special visa for Journalist and then of course she could seek asylum.  The easiest is to seek asylum.

I disagree that Pussy Riot is to Russia what Khomeini was to Iran.  Pussy Riot is the embodiment of the younger generation's rejection of authority, in any guise.  Because Putin is the ultimate authority figure in Russia, the rejection is centered around him.

If you follow the lyrics of their songs or their grandstanding, you will find that most of their words are empty sloganism.    Their is nothing substantive behind their words, simply rejection of authority.

I would further claim that if Nadezhda was not the beauty she is, this group would have little to no following.  She is less a Joan of Arc and more a Lady Godiva.

Notice in their latest press conference how they have cleaned up the girl's images:

Your own argument impeaches your conclusion.

There is something sinister and creepy about these folks.  No doubt that Putin is the devil we know.  Pussy Riot grew out of the art movement Voyna (war) and their "protests" consisted of a lot of sex acts.

Essentially two groups of atheists are manipulating Russia, the atheists in the Kremlin and the atheists behind the hot pink balaclava.  It is only a matter of time when the latter snake engulfs the other

It is pointless talking to you because you refuse to keep yourself apprised of the facts.  If you watched the interview I referenced, you would know their religious beliefs.  You use to "attempt" to make an argument to back up your world view.  Now, you just snark.

I think what Shadow was saying is that you reach a conclusion in your head and do not provide the evidence to back up said conclusion.  You said that my own argument impeaches my conclusion.  Yet you don't say why.  Many people would take such a dismissal as an affront.  Especially when your reasoning is not present.

Reminds me of the old Saturday Night Live skits from the 70's.  Rosanne Rosannadanna to Jane Curtain:  "Jane you Ignorant Slut".

You are talking about the atheists in the Kremlin. Why would these atheists care to start a process against a group protesting in a Church?
In fact the whole point of the trial and jail time was sacriledge.

It is pretty ironic that your hate of Russia drives you to support atheist LGBT groups as well as Muslim terrorists.
For me it gives a good insight in the rather odd decisions Obama has made.

What is the big deal here with Pussy Riot?? I mean with the West??? In particular the US. They are no different to the Sex Pistols in the UK back in the 70s!

So what if they are against Putin!! Who gives a stuff! Back in the 70s the Sex Pistols were also in trouble with denouncing authority, if you do something out of order or against the law expect the consequences! It is just strange why such a big issue is made about them being imprisoned by Western countries?

lets look at Guatama bay where the US has imprisoned many innocent people without trail?? Do we here about that shit day after day? Do we hear about hundreds of US citizens serving prison sentences in bad conditions who have been given unfair trails? No we don't!! Do we hear about hundreds of US citizens awaiting long re trails for offences they probably never did? No we don't!!

And why is it that stupid idiot Obama thinks there should be a boycott of the Sochi games because of Russia's issues with gays? Hell that man was recently  shaking hands with a sheik who executes gays caught having homosexual activities??

The whole lot is stinking US propaganda!

Isnt it about time the US finally took a look at itself? and top using any chance to criticise :wallbash: Russia and while it is doing it keep out of my b****** inbox!! 8)

We in America are so gutless we cannot call a spade a spade - part of that feminist socialist Nannystate some always cuddling up to.  But I don' t think these people should be killed or imprisoned like Putin and his forum supporters.

Btw, I didn't vote for America's first gay President.

Once again you spout this unsubstantiated opinion as if it were a fact.  If you can't provide evidence to back it up, keep it to yourself and stop derailing every second thread!  :rules:

The 2 imprisoned members of Pussy Riot, Masha and Nadya, visited a prison in Nizhny Novgorod to investigate and show support for prisoners abused by Putinism.

For those so well traveled to Mother Russia, you are shockingly ignorant and callous to to those imprisoned or killed for saying two words to Vladimir Vladimirovich.  I have attempted to make some of the members aware of their fates and hardships, to which you have responded with bile and a complicit acquiesence to such barbarity.  May you reap what you sow.

I have traveled extensively to the Golden Ring.  While the prison system is reflective of a society that is still coming out of the malaise of the past, this is not the time of Gulags and forced trains to Siberia.  I have to agree with some of the posters here, that you, LT, take a very grave view of Russia and her advances towards a modern society which, eventually, will include stronger civil liberties.

While I agree that currently Russia operates within a one party state, I have seen the social advances of the past twenty years, personally.  These advances I believe you to be either intentionally misjudging or totally ignorant of.  These women are not the dissidents of a new age.  Neither one is named Yelena Bonner.

Semper Incedendo!

Your accusations are once again unfounded. I would like to see the evidence where Putin mentions any homosexuals should be killed.
If you try to spill the hate you somehow feel to others, that is not going to work with those who actually have experienced Russia.
Perhaps in a circle of West-Ukrainians and people who were only indoctrinaed with anti-soviet propaganda you will find the applause you seem to long for.
