How long have you resided in the UK?

We have an interesting story underway that could use some independent review by a RW.  A young woman with a 4-yo daughter has arrived in America via a fiancee visa and is living under the same roof as her fiancé and his young son.   They must decide within two months whether to marry, or she returns to Russia.  Frankly, marriage seems hopeless based on what we know and growing more hopeless.  Both the man and RW are being blamed.  The story starts here:

I have been in UK for slightly over a year now. Peanuts, from the general perspective. But I have turned 40, have my English, and been well-travelled prior to. I guess that sort of mitigates my adjustment ordeal )

I go have a read now, maybe some thoughts show up to me
