Some of those ladies liked what you said but do they respect you?

Do you respect those women when they look down at America and praise their country? Sure you do but the difference is you'd look down at America and praise their country. How can it be a difference when it's the same thing? The difference is you see them as patriotic and they don't see you in the same light.

It's hard to respect people when they bad mouth their job, their parents and their country. It's hard to respect people when they disrespect any person or organization that helped them grow. My wife can talk about a lot of things that are wrong in Ukraine but she's still patriotic and recognizes the good things. She also recognizes America has done many good things to be where it's at for so many people to enjoy life. She's lived here 2 1/2 years now and she considers herself more American than Ukrainian which tells me she enjoys living here and is proud of the country.

Based on some of your beliefs, you may be a good fit to live in the FSU. You've contemplated the thought but of course women living in the FSU may view you differently. They'd question your state of mind for choosing FSU over America since.... you do have a choice. Unless you're wealthy, you'd have a hard time competing against the local men and winning over a very FSU patriotic woman, a woman that you feel is a perfect fit since she shares many of your beliefs.

If you chose to bring home an FSU woman that hates America, it's not wise. How many stories we read here about a man marrying a woman who hates the place she's living in or government she's living under? It's never good.

Although you got some high fives from some ladies, you still have earn their respect. When you tell the ladies what you don't like about America, add a few things you do like. One thing I learned it's not a problem to disagree with a lady even if she doesn't like to hear it because you can still earn respect and if she respects you, she can love you long time.

Man Billy you sure get things into a twist especially when assessing me. Remember the saying "a patriot must always be ready to defend his country from it's government" and "the condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance?" Well the later was inspiration from an attributed quote of Thomas Jefferson along the same line. I feel in order to be a good citizen and patriot we have to understand the true nature of our government.

I understand if it's something that is a negative to our image of what we want to believe in then we ignore it and forget about it. I learned out about cognitive disonence when I deprogramed myself from my former cult religion. Few people understand this and how it works to shape the mind.

In regards to RW respecting me. I doubt they give me much thought. And I do say positive things about America. That we have freedom to express ourselves about our government. Some of the links I have sent them must have surprised them as they are of America writers who are critical of American foreign and economic policy (as I am). Men such as Patrick Buchanan and Dr. Paul Craig Roberts (former assistant Treasury Secretary under Reagan). There isn't such critical writers in Russia that haven't been silenced already. Of course we have a NSA monitoring every e-mail, post and phone call we make. Not only us but everyone. Just ask Angela Merkel. The neo-cons don't have much of a problem with any of this as it was they that set up the DHS and the "Patriot" act. But Billy neo-con thinking is your thinking. You know justifying "enhanced interrogation" and "collateral damage" if done by our government  These words are mind control words to shut down critical thinking. Truther and birther are few more that are used to mold our thinking.

Good to see you TomT. Would you consider starting a family like Tony Randall did at 77?

Hell, I wouldn't even want to be resuscitated and you're asking about kids!

And yes staying single you do run the risk of dying alone and getting eaten by your cat.

That is fear talking.  Fear of being alone and a fear of cats.  hah

Seriously, making decisions based on fear is a good recipe to making really bad choices.  There will always be an abundant amount of single women at all ages for you to not worry.  If you focus on making yourself the best you can be, there will be a large amount of women that would want to spend their time with you.

I thought it was 'Creepy-Crawlies'?

MOBers?  :P   Smooth use to call the women PPPs, LOL.

Popular culture calls the younger male in the Cougar culture pairings 'Cubs'. I'm aware I can never wear the moniker any longer.   :(

You still got your hair, man.

I started shaving my head late 30's (I'm getting closer and closer to that mid 40's mark).  I'm extremely lucky to have a perfectly shaped cranium.  When I decided to take the plunge I had no idea what laid underneath.  The last thing I wanted was a head that had a shape of a camel's back.

I knew I did the right thing the minute gay guys started hitting on me.  hah

I knew this guy a musician. He wore one of those black leather studded bikers hats. He wondered why men would follow him into the rest room. This guy was really clueless.

Thanks TurboGuy for your response upthread....

It isn't even about deep conversations Maxx.  I am a firm believer you need different types of relationships in your life. My father has no friends and is sort of a recluse.   He only has our family.  I don't think that is healthy.  I think having a group of people that you have common interests with is healthy.

My dad has one friend that he made about 10 years ago...he is almost 94 and every other friend he ever made died already...although I can see it can be a blessing to make it that long...I think I'd rather check out around age 80 myself...

This brings up another question to the older guys, single or Married...How many friendships do you maintain when you get into your mid 60's and up?  I still have a lot of friends...many i've had for 30 years or more...but I'm wondering what people experience as they age and go through life...

After retirement I can foresee a lot of free time, and presumably many friends will be in a similar position.  If I was single, I don't think getting married would be very important TO ME in older age...and if I did take the plunge again, I don't think it would be a 'serious' marriage...maybe just someone to have a good time with, it wouldn't HAVE to be permanent...most certainly better to take place in another country....probably not to popular a thought here, but does anybody have a similar perspective?

fathertime,  it's strange how one's perspective changes over time. I see a lot of people here saying they will think this way or that once they hit old age. But they really don't know what is going to happen. Just think how you thought when you were half your age. Notice a change?

One of the few things about me I do feel fortunate for, a robust head of hair. Of course you do understand all that really means is my cellular disposal system is working in a fairly robust pace. I'll probably die sooner if those cells doesn't get appropriately replaced.

Equally lucky for is the fact I barely have body hair. I've always used sesame light oil for an after shower treatment and I can't tell you how many women took delight in this. I often get complimented in my skin being smooth as silk even now with my wife. She also had since started using sesame oil. It's much lighter than jojoba and smells much better.

I agree with this...For me, what I can only 'think this is what I will think'...since i'm not of that age YET.  That is why I like to hear from the older guys...I'd like to also know if the progression of thought was similar to mine.  If you get what I mean.

Personally I find getting older a lot different than I thought it would be so I agree that guessing what we would do may not have a lot of similarity to what we will think when we actually do become a decrepit old fart.

Hey Turboguy,  that sounds pretty optimistic to me, which is encouraging....If you don't mind me asking, what is different and/or better about becoming older than what you thought say in your 40's or 50's?  I might have to revise my 'life plan' to account for an extra 5-10 years!

Thanks,

This brings up another question to the older guys, single or Married...How many friendships do you maintain when you get into your mid 60's and up?  I still have a lot of friends...many i've had for 30 years or more...but I'm wondering what people experience as they age and go through life...

As the saying goes, "there are no friends like old friends."

About 20 of my fraternity brothers of my approximate vintage remain very close.  We make it a point to get together a couple of times per year.  Some far more frequently as they live in close proximity to each other.   A couple I see more than twice per year even though we are several hundred miles apart.  Remarkable men.  All have money.  The group was larger as several have died, the first one being a USAF Thundebird pilot whose jet flamed out in an airshow at Dulles.   Almost all of them have been with the same woman for 40-50 years.   It seems that the younger classes do not have as large of a close group.

A much smaller group of friends is my business partners.  We  stay fairly close even though scattered in different directions.  The interval between social meetings is growing longer.   They were great business partners but only good social companions.

A couple of my friends have become cantankerous, and I avoid them.

I had friends in my hobbies such as oriental rugs, yet I have lost contact as my interest in a hobby declined.

My Number One hobby for 20 years has been golf.  I have perhaps 40-50 golfing buddies of all ages but mostly in the retired or semi-retired status (e. g., the son runs the business while Dad plays).  A few have young kids and can not play on most Saturdays (soccer) and rarely get time off in the week.  I play at least 3x/week.  Within that large group are a couple of smaller, tighter groups.  How tight?  Nine of us go on golf trips a couple times per year, and if someone can not make it, we do not find a replacement.

The two tight groups are very particular, to the point of being intolerant.   A younger man wanted to play more golf with us, and was surprised when we told him to take a hike.   One sage expressed it as follows, "I have enough friends."  He is not shy about expressing his thoughts such as "If I had murdered my first wife when I wanted to, I would be out of prison now."  The collective experiences of such friends brings much clarity to life.  One usually does not have to search his conscience.

I did that three times when my 25-year marriage broke up.  Much younger women, intelligently stimulating, and fun.  One became too clingy.  Another had fun on trips yet dumped me as she wanted a baby (which she had 5-7 years later).  The third was a RW, a great travel companion for 4-5 times per year for much of  6 years.  She wanted to get married, so we married.  Great travel companions do not necessarily make compatible spouses.

Only one of my close friends plays around.  He is married but lives apart for most of the year.  He does not want emotional attachment or a future wife.  He has plenty of companions found on Sugardaddy.com.  He convinced me that such women  cost less than a wife, yet I prefer emotional attachment and not just a GFE.

My observations:  the senior married men are the happiest most contented men, particularly those still with their first wife. That is not to say I am or was unhappy, yet the peaceful, easy feelings are overflowing in the married category.

So after reading Gator's comment it reinforces what I was going to post. Every man is different and what they think about marriage at what particular time in their lives will vary. As for me I look forward to my retirement. This time I will take my time in finding a wife and not make it my number 1 priority as I did when I was 48.

Life at 49, married for almost 10 years with a woman almost 20 years my junior, who happens to be Russian:

Tough. Wonderful. Challenging. Gratifying. Frustrating. Amazing. No regret. Promising.

Will I do the same thing over again if given the chance to go back in time. No.

Life and marriage is what each of us make of it. Just 'Love the one you're with' (CSN).

I'm close to closing out my career and wifey is literally just starting hers. Her future and opportunities are definitely leaps and bounds far greater compared to mine when I was at her age.

We share the same short/long term goals and are working in full partnership to attain those goals. We share the same outlook both in our lives and in our future. We are both incredibly happy for the time we've spent with each other so far as people from both sides are just as happy and content with our life and marriage and the things we've done and accomplished for, and in, our marriage.

Friends and relatives are forever around us, although I just recently 'lost' a great boyhood friend and just attended his memorial not too long ago. Once again, and I would advice, talk about advance directives, wills, trust and life after either one of you find yourself without your significant other anymore. This may sound macabre, but IMO important. I am at peace knowing that my wife, and those who may have to rely on her in the future, is far more than prepared to face life on her own in the event anything happens to me and she would have to deal with things on her own.

One more thing left for us to accomplish to make our lives complete the way we had hope and planned for meticulously.  ;)

Suggestions for the old farts out there. Married or otherwise.. :P

Wifey is really into Shaun T's Insanity (done that) and currently going through his new T-25 early in the AMs before work. Me on the other hand do the Tai Chi's 24 form movements at home, 4 times/week and an hour before she gets up. I found as I get 'older' and gets closer to, as TG puts it, a decrepit old fart (LOL); Tai Chi is such a wonderful meditating, low-impact, energy-boosting ritual you can get into as you get 'older'...the DVDs aren't expensive at all. Shaun-T's are a highway robbery but Sweetie feels they're worth it. Get either Dr. Paul Lam's or Sensei Shao Zhao Ming. You'll be glad you did.

Last advice for wife-seekers still looking. The MOB will not save you from yourself. Long term happiness will not be in the pages of any marriage agency catalogs, it will be in yourself regardless of what most drivels and testimonies posted by those in sites like RWD. The fault in you a local woman can easily see is just as easily noticeable and visible to a foreign woman, even if she doesn't speak a lick of your language. Heck, ESPECIALLY is she doesn't speak a lick of your language.

As for Fathertime's question in how things in life progress as time rolls on...a poignant, yet memorable quote to my friend's memorial his boyhood pal said in his eulogy..."...I still remember dreaming with you when we were still kids about how we'll grow muscles together someday...."  My buddy was a beacon of health. An athlete. No drugs, no alcohol, never smoked. Had  a freak heart attack, comatose for 4 months, and eventually woke up with the faculty of a 5-year old. For a long 12 years after, her incredibly, devoted wife bravely took care of our friend's care every single minute, every single day of that 12 years.

A woman in love will go to the end of the world for the man she loves - unconditionally. Regardless of her nationality. Find happiness in yourself first and she will appear in your life. There is no other way.

I have always wanted to get into Tai Chi.  I have just started Ashtanga yoga at home.

Man, it's kicking my ass.  haha

I have been consistently hitting the weights 3 to 4 times a week for the past 3+ years but these yoga poses brings in a different type of strength.  I'm loving the challenge and definitely need to work on my flexibility.  It's amazing to me watching how some of the yoga vets have complete control over their bodies.  Now that is strength.  Watching how they gracefully go from pose to pose making it look so easy makes me want to hate them.  haha

When I was a lot younger, I had it all planned out.  As I grew older not much of that plan actually materialized as I expected.  haha

Now, I just focus on certain things that I have control over.  My business, my health, my family, my happiness etc...  I don't worry about things outside of my influence like marriage or kids.  I just let that stuff happen on it's own.

I have been fortunate to learn from people who have already gone through the "decrepit old fart" route. My grandparents and now my parents which I am very grateful to watch and learn from.  Some good and some bad.  I know myself much better now than say 20 or even 10 years ago which makes life a lot easier.

I have always wanted to get into Tai Chi.  I have just started Ashtanga yoga at home.

Man, it's kicking my ass.  haha

I have been consistently hitting the weights 3 to 4 times a week for the past 3  years but these yoga poses brings in a different type of strength.  I'm loving the challenge and definitely need to work on my flexibility.  It's amazing to me watching how some of the yoga vets have complete control over their bodies.  Now that is strength.  Watching how they gracefully go from pose to pose making it look so easy makes me want to hate them.  haha

Any form of exercise at any age is obviously a great thing. I agree with you about yoga. It really does work you out very well and also can be greatly beneficial to your overall health and flexibility. Weight lifting is equally good overall. I benefited from choice/muscle specific weight lifting before to enhance those 'fast twitch muscles' I needed to play competitive basketball, skiing, and even surfing.

Without trying to imply good vs bad, I decided to dive into the Tai Chi principles (instead of those mentioned above) for more than a variety of reasons. One of the more pronounced is my lower back pain. I used to be able to generate a 40" (non-static, 30"+ static position) verticals and consequently, I think it had done a nice job on my lower back. Tried yoga exercises, etc...and Tai Chi seem to be much more effective for me. The noticeable difference I feel so far is the continuous 'stretching' movements in Tai Chi instead of the static stretches with Yoga. There's less overexertion to the body so it didn't have to have a *burn&repair* period.

It also is giving me a super sense of balance, both physically and mentally (the mental is a bit abstract to describe other than to say, I'm less prone to harness multiple thoughts coming all at once but instead able to call input on command. The meditating value of Tai Chi), thus I'm less high-strung.

Try a simple movement right now. Reach high with both arms as high as you can, then slowly and gracefully lower then both shoulder high and swing your shoulder to the right at the same time, then slowly and gracefully swing to the opposite side, etc...you should  feel a really nice blood flow all over your body. etc...now imagine doing this slow rhythmic movement with either a 12 or 24 form movement...snake, crane, etc...you'll get a nice and intense surge of energy..it's really remarkable.

It's my personal mellow yellow mojo these days  ;)

edited to add - Jon Jones suggests Tai Chi, too!

Has any of the older gents tried testosterone replacement?  I've been hearing some good stuff about it.

Personally, I feel that Americans (and Russians even more) are overmedicated.  So be careful because FDA does not regulate the sale or use of testosterone supplements.  Work with a medical doctor, and be tested.  This law firm advertises much on Florida TV, and the firm is litigating against Androgel.

I had my T-levels tested two years ago and was told they are in the normal range.  Considering that testosterone declines with age, I must have exhibited some extreme behavior at times in my young days.  I did understand the meaning of "No."

Aerobic exercise has always been important to me as I played a lot of squash and tennis in my 30s and 40s and needed the endurance.  Gave them up when I turned 50 and was no longer competitive.
