 Max Fisher notes this morning that although President Obama got a lot of flak for his restrained response to Russia's aggression in Ukraine, his approach of giving Vladimir Putin enough rope to hang himself has turned out to be a lot cannier than his critics expected.
 I continue to think that eastern Ukraine simply isn't valuable enough to Russia to justify a lot of risk. Putin made a play for taking control without any real opposition, and it failed. It's obvious now that the cost would be pretty high, both in military opposition and in economic pain. Too high. And Putin knows it.

People laughed when Putin took Crimea and thought he'll have to spend a lot of money fixing it up. Land, sea, and humans have value. Read below and you'll understand Putin took much more real estate than just Crimea. East Ukraine has value too. That is why Putin is there. Also the richest guy in Ukraine made his fortune from east Ukraine's resources.

I have a feeling we would agree on a lot. I try not to get too emotionally involved. Or at all. It is not my issue. Even my above post is a bit of a tease as are my Ron Paul references. I know Russia leans on it's neighbors and worse. America does the same with it's hegemony. Obama is a weakling and not even a player. Just a front man for those who really run things and not a very good one at that. In fact terrible. Putin?
