RAF jets intercept Russian bombers heading to UK

Perhaps more nations should let such flights carry on without interception ...let them transgress and see what happens ...it's mostly to test the defence capabilities ..radar,etc.,

I disagree, it's like let's see what happens when we let the bully steal our
lunch money. Does it stop there? The rules say they can fly to line X miles
from a countries coastline. So if we let them continue, what will they do next?
Buzz military or commercial airports? What sort of potentially dangerous
precedent would this put in place?

What do you do to a bully? even if he's bigger and stronger than you, he gets
a punch in the nose and while you might get a thrashing, he goes elsewhere
in the future because he doesn't like getting punched in the nose.

The Russians aren't really testing a country's air defenses with those old slow
Bear bombers. Those bombers are capable of carrying some very sophisticated
electronic spying and surveillance equipment. Those old planes would be instant
fireballs if they were on a real bombing run, but let them keep flying inland and
they will do quite a bit of high tech snooping.

Just my two kopecks,

Bill

A little different take on the topic....

I have to agree that the Russian planes should be allowed to cross the 12 mile limit.  Then give one warning on 121.5 Mhz and proceed to shoot them down!

I do not think these old/slow bombers are testing the defense radars.  The bombers are so radar reflectant they would paint a huge target on the most primitive radars.

Secondly, I doubt they are conducting electronic intelligence.  In a free country such as the USA, it is far easier to do electronic snooping with agents and listening equipment at locations on the ground.  The equipment is small and can be located nearly anywhere, in a home, office building, or a mobile vehicle.  It would be unlikely the people or equipment would even be noticed.

So what is the reason for the probing of national boundaries?  In my opinion, it is simply a political move to keep the other side on edge and generally provoke fear of the Russians.   After a few of these old clunkers are shot down, the probing would probably stop.

msmobyone,

Your right, I responded to the photo on the same page as your comment rather than the previous page and news link.  However it does not change my conclusions.

Per the article in the link............

"The RAF said such incidents were not uncommon and fighter jets were dispatched on a "quick reaction alert".
Andrew Brookes, a fellow at the Royal United Services Institute and former RAF pilot, said there was no reason why the planes should enter UK airspace and the incidents were signs of "Russia flexing its muscles".
"They are not trying to provoke a war," he said. "It isn't a Cold War... they are just using these tactics to poke us in the chest.""

In the last few days I've noticed several articles describing new deals involving Russia and/or Iran...in such places as Brazil, Fiji, and now Thailand...all places that have struggles...

It would seem that our efforts to isolate Russia are working somewhat in Europe, but not so much elsewhere.  If anything, Russia appears to be strengthening in other regions.

Thailand is flirting with buying Russian tanks as US ties cool

Thailand is pursuing closer ties - and possible arms deals - with Russia, with relations between Thailand and its traditional partner, the United States, cooling in the wake of a May 2014 coup.

Two Thai deputy prime ministers will travel to Russia, just weeks after a visit to Bangkok by the powerful head of Russia's......

Ok, I screwed that part up. However letting them run across borders unchecked would
set a very bad precedent.

In today's Mendeleyev Journal...

After an hour of parading back and forth in front of Subway and KFC cafes near the October Fields Metro station, Moscow police have arrested an Uzbek woman who severed the head of a toddler she was babysitting.

The woman paced back and forth while holding the child's severed head and witnesses say that she shouted slogans like "Allahu Akbar." The woman shouted that she had a bomb, causing residents to stand back and wait for police.

Muscovite Alyona Kuratova told TV "Rain" reporters, "I came out of the shopping center and they would not let me through. There were people running and screaming "bomb, bomb."

This Forbes article is making the case that US and Russia are beginning to align more.  Sounds good to me.

Are Russia And The U.S. Starting To See Eye-To-Eye?

....Lavrov and Kerry’s meeting in Moscow last week is a step back for the anti-Putin crowd. For them, it is best that the West don’t bother speaking to the Russians at all. At least until their president of choice is elected in some sort of revenge-filled fairy tale.......

Russia Doubling Nuclear Warheads
New multiple-warhead missiles to break arms treaty limit

Russia is doubling the number of its strategic nuclear warheads on new missiles
by deploying multiple reentry vehicles that have put Moscow over the limit set

I kind of doubt that Putin is dating Wendi Deng, but there are news accounts that
say that Putin is dating the 6 ft tall 47 year old exwife of Rupert Murdoch. In my
mind she is far too tall, not Russian enough and too old. She can't be banished to
Siberia or found dead in her apartment from a suicide with knife wounds in her back
if she decides to write a tell all book. There is no way that he would allow them to be
photographed together highlighting his diminutive height That's just my opinion.

Wow, that is a beautiful woman. She looks amazing for 47 years-old. I think every man wishes he had a wife that beautiful when she is 47. I've never dated an Asian girl, but have often wanted to. I think Asian women are extremely beautiful.

I wonder how many men who started off looking for a FSU Wife...ended up looking in Asia instead and ended up marrying a lovely Asian woman?

The girl who does my Sister's hair, Kim, is a 35 year-old Asian lady.....oh my goodness!! When I go with my Sister to the hair salon and watch her little 6 year-old Daughter while she gets her hair cut on the weekends....when I stop and talk to Kim and chat her up, I bet it is ridiculously obvious to her I am flirting with her. She is so damn hot!! Smoking hot Asian girl.
