How can you see through multi layered clothing? They're even prettier in Summer.

So is the view from the hotel room!

Get out of the hotel!

Exactly. In November, they were covering everything but their eyes. Some in Gulliver looked mighty nice.  ;D

The temperature is hovering at right about freezing, so people aren't heavily bundled up. And they were even less bundled up on the flight out of London.

Just got in last night after 20 hours of travelling. I'd just arrived at the hotel and was happy to put my feet up with no feeling of urgency to get out of the hotel. :)

Will try to figure out the photos at some point. It's a hassle as I'm still adjusting to MacBook.

Good to see you're out there giving it a go Bounder particularly as it's not a great time of the year for it with the weather and all. Is it the hotel Ukraine you are staying at? That where I was last year on one of the upper floors at there was a great view out of the window all across maidan square. Though apparently looks like they have been holding more funerals of dead soldiers from the war there recently from recent news reports I've seen. Need good company in Kiev that time of year I think as can get a bit gloomy otherwise. So yeah getting to the action is definitely a good idea. Whats the plan of meeting up with women, anything sorted yet? Betting you got UIA over there, nice flight attendants eh ;)

For Windows OS, can download for free a simple program called 'Resize.'  Works easy and quick.

Being on the ground here, I get the impression that the locals speak and write in Ukrainian and or Russian. They can certainly write Kiev how they like in the local language. I'm writing in English and I choose to write K-I-E-V. It is a petty nationalism indeed that focuses how references are made in n other languages.

I've never seen Russians freaking out that we say and write Moscow instead of Moscow. Ditto the Poles don't seem to mind Poland in place of Polska or Warsaw instead of Varshava. Ditto Germany and Deutschland. The list goes on and on.

Focusing on problems like Kiev vs Kyiv, Ukraine vs The Ukraine must seem like a great idea when you have no desire to deal with real problems like corruption, for example (:)

In my view , Ukraine doesn't get to dictate English language spellings IMHO.

From Wikipedia for what it's worth:

"Early English sources use various names, including Kiou, Kiow, Kiew, Kiovia. On one of the oldest English maps of the region, Russiae, Moscoviae et Tartariae published by Ortelius (London, 1570) the name of the city is spelled Kiou. On the 1650 map by Guillaume de Beauplan, the name of the city is Kiiow, and the region was named Kÿowia. In the book Travels, by Joseph Marshall (London, 1772), the city is referred to as Kiovia.[19] The name Kiev that started to take hold at later times is based on Russian orthography and pronunciation [ˈkʲijɪf], during a time when Kiev was in the Russian Empire (since 1708, a seat of a governorate).

In English, Kiev was used in print as early as in 1804 in the John Cary's "New map of Europe, from the latest authorities" in "Cary's new universal atlas" published in London. The English travelogue titled New Russia: Journey from Riga to the Crimea by way of Kiev, by Mary Holderness was published in 1823.[20] By 1883, the Oxford English Dictionary included Kiev in a quotation.

....
Most major English-language news sources like the BBC,[26] The Economist,[27] and the New York Times[28] continue to prefer Kiev."

The flight attendants were very nice, as well as kind and helpful. I'm actually just staying in a mini-hotel across from the Ukrainian National Opera House. I was at Maidan today - there was a group of people there singing with a small audience. Did not seem sombre but more merry.

My plans/strategy is complex in nature.  :) Getting to Kiev was only the first step. I don't plan to be in Kiev for too long if all goes according to plan.

If I still had Windows, I doubt this would even be an issue. I'm having a bit of difficulty adjusting to Mac. Apparently, their approach to the Mac OS is the make it so that any idiot can use it. Probably that's why I'm having difficulty understanding the logic of Mac OS.  ;)

I could never get the hang of a Mac after using Windows for so long.  Simple things I could do in seconds took way too long to figure out on a Mac.

Oh-  hardly surprising  coming  from an anti-Ukrainian pro Russian apologist  wanting to dictate how and what Ukraine should be doing   & thinking.

My smily icon was there to portray to Bounder a measure of humour ..

Even if he WAS ''an anti-Ukrainian pro Russian apologist  '' I wish him good luck in his search.

Do we need to politicise trip reports ?

If this is going to be the result, I ask the mods to move my comments about Kyiv v Kiev to the blalbla sin bin.. Sorry, Bounder
