My wife said there were lots of English speaking kids in the playground.  There are always a couple there anyway, I’ve noticed.

They teach English is school from a young age.. My Wife's youngest sister is still in school..
In fact sometimes she skypes us so can help her with her English homework..

So if anyone new is reading this...  Always remember  that most people can actually understand your English..
Most people choose not to speak English..  But I have found if you do some drinking with the older crowd they will practice with you...

My wife was talking about native English speakers. Park Shevchenko is one of the popular parks in Kyiv amongst the expat community or people like myself.
I haven’t experienced encountering a lot of English speakers myself but I don’t tend to mingle with a younger crowd, the few schol going kids I’ve met definitely don’t speak English.

Strange..  all the people I have meet in Ukraine speak at least some English..   one of my good friend is a English teacher at a local university...  But for sure in the last few years. They have been pushing English and Ukrainian in schools... More so than in the past..   her sister is around 9 years old I think... Her parents are not very good with English. They speak mostly Russian..  but obviously can speak and understand Ukrainian..  her grand father even knows a little English,  but he was a minister of health for the city during Soviet times and at the start of modern Ukraine...  From my understanding..

Very strange John.

Wife has a lot of friends with children and grandchildren of all ages going to school in Ukraine.

They ALL are learning English and most of the older ones, 12-18 or so, are VERY GOOD with English.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

I must be mingling with the wrong crowd or they’re just shy to speak with me.
Actually, I’m fine with not being spoken to in English. Helps my Russian/Ukrainian skills.

From what I understand the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved entry into Ukraine without a PCR test.

~~The government of the country allowed the entry of foreign citizens without a PCR test if they have a document confirming the full course of vaccination.

Now what 'document' are they speaking about since there is no universal agreement on proof.

Great news...

Your CDC vaccination card should suffice.  The real question is when will the airlines institute this new rule?  All their web sites still show you need a PCR test.

So I arrrived in Kyiv a few days ago.

The lovely lady at Lufthansa told me

1) I needed a visa (which I don’t)

2) that I didn’t have a return flight booked (which I do) and

3) that my PCR test was over 72 hours old (maths also wasn’t her strong point).

Everything on the Ukranian side was pretty much plain sailing.

PCR test and insurance check took all of 20 seconds.

Seems that the rules will change for vaccinated folks also.

Looks like the official virus infection cases are only going down because Ukraine is still under lockdown restrictions according to this news article:

http://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukraine-keep-covid-19-lockdown-despite-fall-infections-2021-06-09/

So we all know what happens when lockdown restrictions are lifted without much if the population being vaccinated, the infection rate goes up, and hospitalisations and deaths go up. So far to date from what I hear not many Ukrainians have been vaccinated though some are coming around to the idea apparently.

This is official wording for entry into Ukraine:

Visit Ukraine - INFORMATION FOR TOURISTS AND VISITORS. COVID-19 Health insurance Certificate

Thanks LAMan for posting this info.

Glad that my wife was able to get free PCR test before leaving for Ukraine and not have to pay $250 for test at airport.  If she had, and then the need for such eliminated for her (because she had CDC certificate of completing 2 Pfizer shots), she would have been 'slightly' irritated.

The newest rule:

All foreign citizens and citizens of Ukraine, as well as stateless persons need to have one of the following documents:

• a document confirming the receipt of a full course of vaccination against COVID-19 with vaccines included by WHO in the list of approved for use in emergency situations; or

• a rapid test for the SARS-CoV-2 antigen (RAT) that was done no more than 72 hours before entry; or

• a certificate of a negative PCR test result done no more than 72 hours before the entry.

This is similar to what I hear..  one reason covid numbers are so low might be because they just stopped counting.. but yea.  Easy to have low numbers if you don't count and charge for the vaccine,, best way to ensure the majority of people just struggling to get by,,. Not get it .

• a rapid test for the SARS-CoV-2 antigen (RAT) that was done no more than 72 hours before entry; or

• a certificate of a negative PCR test result done no more than 72 hours before the entry.

Well, now I found out what must be included in 'document' to enter Ukraine:

The document confirming the full course of vaccination against COVID-19 must be in English (or translated into English) and contain the following information:

- full name, date of birth, gender, citizenship, and signature of the patient, number (where applicable) of the identity document (passport, identification number, etc.);

- the name of the vaccine, the dates of administration, the name of the manufacturer and the production batch;

- the name of the disease against which the vaccination course was made;

- signature and stamp of the doctor who directly performed the vaccination.

Vaccines for which a document on a full course of vaccination against COVID-19 can be considered should be included by WHO in the list of approved ones for use in emergency situations.
Today these are:Pfizer/BioNTech (COMIRNATY), Johnson & Johnson's Janssen, AstraZeneca/Oxford, AstraZeneca/Covishield (India), AstraZeneca/SKBio (South Korea), Moderna, Sinopharm/BIBP, CoronaVac (Sinovac).
! If you have a vaccination document, tests are not required !

The SARS-COV-2 coronavirus rapid antigen test must contain the following information:

- full name of the patient;

- regarding the study: the name of the disease or causative agent (COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, etc.);

- type of study (immunochromatographic testing, immunochromatography assay, ICA, Lateral flow assay, LFT, rapid antigen test, etc.);

- date and time of sampling (no more than 72 hours from biomaterial sampling to crossing the border of Ukraine);

- test result (negative, not detected);

- country of study;

- the name of the institution that issued the test result;

- unique identifier of test results (code, QR code, etc.).

A document confirming the full course of vaccination against COVID-19, as well as the result of testing for COVID-19 using the rapid test for identifying the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus antigen may be presented in digital or hard copy and contain additional information provided for by the legislation of the countries where testing was performed.
