Hi all!
« on: January 10, 2007, 01:39:19 PM »
Hi all! I was just surfing on the Internet and found your site :) I’ve heard about a lot of marriages between women from here and man from abroad. So it was interesting for me – how people get in touch, what unites them, why there are so many foreign men, who come here in search of a Russian or Ukrainian woman. After I read this forum, everything has become a little bit clearer :) So I decided to become a registered user to use chat and may be even forum :)
Well, a little bit about myself? I live in Ukraine, in Donetsk, I’m 25, my job is... English language :) So I get two benefits from reading this forum – I’m trying to understand the international marriages better and practicing my English.
So, nice to meet you all :)

Nat,

Welcome to RWD.  All of us here have an interest in marrying and there are great benefits for members here.  You're in a unique position (being a Ukrainian lady) therefore I'm sure all members will be very interested in hearing your opinions when different topics are raised.

I hope you enjoy RWD.

Nat Welcome to the RWD board.  Please find a comfortable chair and stay a while.  Much of the discussion here is based around the "Western Man's" perception of how FSU ladies think, understand and or see things.  Notwithstanding a fair amount of experience, much of the time, it is weighted with male thinking.  The more women here the better as it can certainly help to sober our "Male think we know" minds.

A side comment, but relevant, my impressions are the participants on RWD (Generally speaking) are a good deal more informed and open minded than many of the western men who consider seeking a partner in the FSU.  Just something to bare in mind.

Again, welcome and don't be confused by the different styles of English.  There is several...Oiy...!!!

Well, in this case I’ll be happy to help ;)

Yes, it's true, I noticed it :) And one more thing - people here in different topics of the forum are very friendly and helping (unlike on the free dating sites' forums and chats i looked through before).

Again, welcome

Thanks :)

But it's even better!!! (after reading this forum I'll become the most understanding interpreter... or understandable ;) That’d also be nice :)) Btw, the last one – “Oiy” - sounds more like French ;)

Actually, the mongrEl is more likely Oiy, as it  would usually be written 'Oi or 'Oy, the apostrophe indicating the typical dropped initial H of Cockney (London's lower-class accent). It derives from Hey, and shows another peculiarity of Cockney, i.e. changing AY sounds into OYs (ask a Cockney about the Piccadilly line of the Underground, and he'll be confused unless you say "the Piccadilly loin") ;).

Oy is typically Yiddish, as in Oy vey! (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oy_vey), and the closest French would be Oui (yes).

Oynywoy, welcome to RWD ;D.

Let's not turn this welcome thread into a complete "MongrElisation" or MongrEliZation depending on where you are from.  ::) ::)

How about mongrelification, to solve the British/American spelling quandary ;) ? Since Nat stated that my job is... English language, she may profit from and even enjoy some free etymology :).

There is an imbalance of shared perspectives from American men versus Russian woman here at RWD.  So, your arrival is particularly welcomed.

I think most members have good intentions ... all are helpful ... very few problem people.

Have fun and what is Oiy 'Oi, Oy?  That is the kind of stupid question that I am known for here:)  I am called a newbie because my interest and enthusiasm exceeds my actual experience.

You guys look really weird, all tangled up in your self made knots trying to impress a Ukrainian lady.  I hope you are not so awkward when you actually meet one face to face.

Given such a blanket statement, I do not know whether I should consider myself included.

That may be your impression, but was not my personal intention, given that I know nothing about her age and looks.

Anyway, JB, while people may accept pearls of wisdom from your experience even when laced with vinegar, this comment of yours does not belong to that category. If you need to vent your spleen, you should find some more appropriate venue for that and, frankly, you have been getting all too often tiresome, recently >:(.

Nat,

Welcome to the RWD. I hope that all of us can help answer any questions that you have.
There is never a stupid question...maybe a few crazy posts, but that is what makes it fun. :-)

Cheers,

KenC... Agreed...  :-\

SoC...  Let's not go overboard with criticism of our older members.  If there was no character in here it would be just as bad if it turned into a flaming heap of... sticks.

I like it when jb throws in the odd generalised hand grenade... It's one of the more amusing ways to break up the daily routine.

jb... no need for me to try to impress nat...  she's too young for me anyway!  (My damn rules might have been wrong afterall)

To be honest I thought this quote was pretty funny, and kinda true. I didn't know what the hell you guys were talking about, and I imagine that poor girl being confused too.

Gawd.......some of you guys amaze me as to the "Long Bows" you draw out of things at times.  ::)  Sandro43 and I were taking a few jabs at each other on the basis that we have obviously been exposed to a similar English study program at some stage which clearly went over a few people's heads.  I don't know about him, but my interest in impressing other women has long since wained.  Note I have a wedding planned for April 20 2007.

It is totally off topic, but at least the author of the thread can see what a "Thin skinned bunch of sooks" are here at times.

Why not? It’s so sweet :)

Given such a blanket statement, I do not know whether I should consider myself included. That may be your impression, but was not my personal intention, given that I know nothing about her age and looks.

Well, as I've said earlier, I'm 25. But as I'm not dating here... well, at least yet ;), I don't think it matters.

Nat,
Welcome to the RWD.

jb... no need for me to try to impress nat...  she's too young for me anyway!  (My damn rules might have been wrong afterall)

It depends on a person, although these rules seem to be very wise ;) However, if I was dating, 38 would be still ok with me :)

Nat,

Perhaps you should start a new thread called "What a RW should know about Western Men"...

I'm sure there would be some colourful posts!!!  It'd be interesting to see if people stereotyped themselves as much as they stereotype Russian women.   :D

Excellent idea Kuna.  Yes Nat you should definitely do that.

Regarding JB and provocation ... are the two words inseparable?  whether outbound or inbound?  I like sayings and phrases; often the convey a meaning that too many words seem to miss.  One saying that comes to mind often when I read posts from JB is this one:

"Any jackass can kick down a barn door; but it takes a carpenter to hang one."

It speaks to a constructive manner that is largely absent from this senior member who fortunately has many good ideas, observations, and experience to share.
