No, this is NOT ME:

. . . but in all frankness, it might as well be.  I have a partiallly completed irezumi style work in progress.  In progress for about a quarter century, lol.  I don't get to it as often as I should, and the original artist died.  It's been hard to find others I trusted to continue his (and my) vision for the work.  It's one of several things that are convincing me this is not the pursuit for me . . . knowing how such things appeal only to some women HERE (some have loved it, some have hated it, some have ignored it.  It's only been a "deal breaker" ONCE with an AW) it just doesn't seem like a good idea to go fishing in a population where the reactions are likely to be more polarized, and the chances of, well, "artistic appreciation"  ;)  significantly less.

I could be wrong, but . . . it seems like a mighty expensive gamble to be taking.

*Oh, on multiple quotes . . . once you're in "Reply" and have your dialogue box, you just scroll down through the "Topic Summary" below it.  Every post will have an "Insert Quote" hotlink in its upper right hand corner.

Boar, I don't think you are wrong.  I think you have come to your senses...FSU girls are not the population to reveal such "art."

Good luck!

Richard,

Just curious, was your friend tattooed while in the "standing" position.

The back's not actually too bad, except over parts of the shoulder blades and the base of the neck.  But mine wraps all the way around the front---it's a traditional pattern, a bit like an unbuttoned shirt---and I'm here to tell you, the rib cage is just no fun at ALL.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of tattoos on women, for the most part.  One big one that flows along the lines of their derriere, sure, that looks good.  But hardly anyone ever starts with something like that . . . most people get a few "decal"-sized tattoos before they go that far, and those generally look like crap.  I'm actually in total agreement with the previous post about NBA players . . . not a fan of that look, tattoo here, tattoo there, no overall design or vision.

Irezumi is . . . different.  The Japanese don't have the Western tradition of glorifying the human form in and of itself.  Tattoos, which have a 1400+ year history there, in their view clothe and "civilize" our animal form.  I don't know what it was that triggered it for me, but once I saw some examples of the real thing . . . I knew I had to have it.  Popular culture here is only recently beginning to catch up with me; if things are 10-20 years behind the times, culturally/socially speaking, in the FSU then I've got longer to wait, lol, than I'm prepared to sign on for.

Richard,

Gator, there's a story one of the old timers, Bert Grimm, used to tell.  He had a guy that kept coming in pestering him to do a tattoo "there."  He kept putting him off, and quoting him ridiculous prices and so forth, but the guy wouldn't give up on the notion.

Finally, Bert told him okay, and to have a seat.  The guy sits down, whips out, and Bert goes into the back room for supplies . . . comes out with a board, three nails, and a hammer.  ;D

"W-what are those for?" the guy quavers.

"To stretch the skin, of course," sez Bert.  "You didn't think I was gonna hold that in my hand did you?"

Boar,

One tattoo joke.  It is bad and may get me banned.

A woman has a small Elvis tattooed on her inner thigh at her crotch.  She wants a matching one on the other side.

She goes to a parlor and orders another Elvis on the opposite thigh.

The artist completes the work and hands her a mirror to examine the tattoo.

She complains, saying the new one does not look like Elvis.  He says it is an exact copy of the other.  It escalates into an argument and she does not want to pay.  The artist says he will accept an independent opinion, and she agrees.

So he goes outside his shop, and not being the best neighborhood, can find only one intoxicated homeless man.  The homeless man comes into the shop and is asked to settle the disagreement if the second tattoo looks like Elvis.

He studies the new tattoo ....

[I will hold the punchline unless you have not heard this joke]

Boar knew it.

The homeless man examines the woman's tattoos.  He then proclaims,

"I do not know who the two twins are, but that is Willie Nelson in the middle."

(an old joke before the Brazilian cut was popular)

oh well guys you can joke and make fun of this

but why you actually created this topic, to ask women about it or what?

I of course understand that the minority of women can not express the opinions of all the  Russian women , but still there are tons of girls like me and they would laugh seeing old guys with tattoos over their back actually any guys no matter the age factor

I never was mistaken about Boar:P:P:P:P

You know all these kinda topics are  just for your entertainment not for some useful information , they are never to ask our women's opinion it is just the establishment of fact , like just to be polite we will ask this crazy opinion which we will never listen to , will always do how we want it to be

with love,

This sure has been an interesting discussion.

Jazzy:  I know we'll never see eye to eye on this subject but think about this for a bit.  If you'd put your life on the line with a bunch of friends for months on end and then by some miracle you survived, wouldn't you even consider getting a tattoo as a memorial to those who were left behind and your brothers in arms who made it out alive?  I don't know, maybe it is a guy thing or more specifically a military guy thing.  I guess until you've lived thru such terrible things it may not be possible to fully appreciate where I am coming from.  There's an old bumper sticker piece of wisdom that I think sums it up.  "All gave some.  Some gave all."

Thanks to everyone who have voiced their support for the military, believe me it is appreciated.  More than you'll ever know.

John

Oh Dear Infantry:)

Well if I was in that situation like you describe I think we would just write some good words on the piece of paper to each other give some little gifts what we had with us like Russian coin , some earing anything what I would have in my hands , maybe I do not know like bracelet anything really. Or if they were dead as you told, then I would just go to church  put a candle for them , prayed for them and would always remembered them in my heart:)

I understand your military things I think it is for men yeah and they will do all those skeletons on their bodies that is considered to be normal, but I am a woman thank god ,so I do not need to paint my body to be beautiful:):P or to prove anything to myself as Jet told earlier about his wife some rebel inside of the person against some establishment , well that is not for me.
I do not need to prove anything to myself, I am like God created me :) nothing I can change about it I mean in a physical way (obviously to stay fit of course;) , when I was born I did not have drawings on my body and I plan to return this body safe  when it wears out:)

My soul needs no drawings

The latter part of this thread is all pretty much in good fun, but this comment is uncalled for.  One thing I have noticed on this board is the general ABSENCE of any negative comments regarding the level of anyone's English, who tries to write in English when it is not their mother tongue. IMO this crosses a line that shouldn't be crossed.
