Skulls and Tattoos
« on: May 02, 2007, 05:38:43 PM »
So, I was reading Phantoms introductory post and someone said that skulls and tattoos might not be appreciated by FSUW.  Well, I am an arch-conservative politically and attend a very conservative church.  I am not a skinhead or nazi puke by any stretch of the imagination.  But I am a member of the military and have tattoos on both shoulders, both are military in origin.  One, however, is a flaming skull about the size of a baseball.  Again, both represent time spent in the military and nothing else.  Ya'll think this is gonna be a problem?  Heck, for the price of removing just one of them I could spend 10 days in the FSU.  I would appreciate your opinions on the subject.

Doubtful.... They are fairly excepted now, unless they represent FSU known "mob" / "prison" tattoos.

Just take your woman to the Egyptian beaches on the red sea. If you don't have a tattoo you are the minority...Actually I don't recommend taking a woman to Egypt-- they are really  disrespectful.... But, now everyone has tattoos, by your discription neither of yours represent   FSU criminal activity.

Unless she is a person that just doesn't like them- you should be fine.

My observations without judgment:

The percentage of RW with tattoos is much smaller than the percentage of AW, although the percentage is growing.

My ex-fiancee (a proper Moscow woman in her 20s) saw her first set of large tattoos in  Cyprus on a British man, and she thought it disgusting.

A UW I dated briefly had one on her shoulder, and I would not consider her highly sophisticated.

I have been to the Russian Riviera (Antalya, Turkey) and there are a few women with ink, and 5 years ago there were none.

Study the escort sites such as Sandro's "Double Hitters" and you will notice few tattoos among that element.
That is all the information I have.

... which makes me think you examined my "exhibits" rather consciensciously ;D.

This one, however, does not seem to object much to them ;).

Back in my dating days, I met several dozen FSU girls, and only one had a tattoo.  How did I know about no tattoos?  From swimming with them, of course  :o

My wife does not like tattoos, on herself or on men, but she is a sample of one....

What do others report?

My observations may be skewed because we have a good friend in Simferopol who is a tattoo artist.  I know of a few women over 30 who have tattoos, but they are not all that common in that age group.  Among the 20's crowd, though, it's becoming relatively common.  If you go to the beach you won't see as many as in the US, but you will see them, and unless they are overly large or overly graphic, they are not looked down on any more than they are in the US.

It will really all come down to the personal preference of the individual lady.  I don't think you will have any problem.  I also think that if they are military based, that will be less of a negative with them.

ahahah I like Sandro he is again in his perfect style of  those naked women thing

:)

For me personally I do not care about tattoos but  if my boy had one well I would accept it of course but probably would be asking him very very annoyingly how he managed to do that nasty thing?:)) but once again I would accept it cos I know my boy already ,if I saw him for the first time in my life, I would think before falling into deep for him and would like to know him much more better before spending the rest of my life with the person who feels not comfy with his pure natural body.........  thank god he does not have any and is not intending to have one :)

According to oriental philosophy  when a person puts something on his body like those tattoos let it be snake or bull or I do not know like those devil stuff or tiger that means he as if undersettling essence into his body and this essence is trying to interfere with person's soul and that is why there are conflicts in the man's personality he does not know what is happening to him/her , and that thing is hard to get rid of cos it is happening on that spiritual not vivid level , it is dangerous really it is .That is why I prefer not to mess around with such kinda things cos everything has its meaning, I 'd better stay with my knit nice body just how it is , just how God gave it to me without any signs and marks:)

It is a matter of personal choice , my choice is life and body without tattoos :) there are people who love tattoos and maybe have strong personalities and souls so those drawings are not influencing them and their lives, let it be so I am happy for such people, it is just I know for me tattoos are still something doubtful,  with dark mystery as a person is not contented with his original body and is trying to decorate it artificially which is really superficial to my mind! We better need to improve morally before painting pictures on our bodies

Once again all rights reserved dear guys that is my opinion:) nothing personal:)

I have always defined tattoos as a permanent sign of temporary insanity.

Jazzy, let me ask you a question that might refute your strong statement about why you would never have tattoos. Do you have your ears pierced?

Yeah I have my ears pierced , it is absolutely natural am a girl and wanted some earings but once again I was so scared when that woman was piercing my ears , I just tolerate only this ears pierced that's it , piercing over my body will unlikely happen cos I am healthy:) mentally healthy:P at least I hope that I wont have any kinda crazy ideas to pierce the whole of my body

It seems to me that by having your ears pierced you are contradicting what you stated above

absolutely not Scott do not try to over write it here ok:P

piercing 2 ears in order to have nice earings for some occasions can not be compared to tattoos all over your body and pierced legs and arms and  belly button and everything

do not la la la please

as I told before I am normal person , living in society of course am influenced by some things but that does not mean I am fanatic of this or that movement , I decided to pierce my eares when I was in  9 grade at school it was  growing up period I was like 15 y.o. wanted to have earings and look pretty , yes that is normal when you are a teenager but when you are old fart piercing your doubtful places and painting tattoes of a lion on your  chest I think that means clinic really or like a woman of 30 's is painting a ballet dancer on her ass , I also think it is something to think of for that woman's doctor if she has one!

infantryman-

RW in "general" will not be thrilled with them or appreciate them, but you wouldnt be kicked to ther curb  over it ;)

I have some.. not large or sleeves or anything like that.
shoulder /calf.

my wife (RW)had none, but now has a small one (yes i tried to talk her out of it!)

she finds them interesting if done tastefully on certain men...
(if they have a build for it)
and finds them awful if it seems out of place ion the person or covers a large area,, (like half or full sleeves etc)

thats only one RW, and probably a somewhat liberal view,,many RW would be more conservative in thier view of tattoos,
but again
if anyone cant look past a shoulder tatt, depicting your unit /squad /military service,
then it probably isnt going to be a girl thats a good match for you anyway..

BTW - i'm ex Marine (if you are ever really ex)
my wife has no understanding of *voluntering* for  military service .
it makes no sense to her..at all.

and honstly that will be a common thought to RW in general as well
.

I think I might have more art than most of you.  I have a large tat on right shoulder, small tat on left, and a back piece that is HUGE.

They are unique and very obvious.  They are hidden when I wear a shirt.

My Elena has not complained.   I am part "Bad Boy" and I think this attracts a lot of women, including RW.  Harley included.  ;)  As a matter of fact she shows my shoulder tat off to her friends if they have not met me yet.

Maybe you just need to buy a Harley to go with your tats?  Hehe

OH...  just had a reminder of something funny that happened...  It was five years ago and I joined Gold's Gym.  I'm in the locker room, get naked to take a shower.  Some man looks at me, smiles, and says "Nice."   OMG...  I thought he was gay.  Never got dressed so fast in my life.  I quickly leave the locker room.  After I'm having a soda or something in the cafe there, and he approaches me and asks where I got my artwork.   OH!!  Hehe...  I didn't realize at the time he was complimenting my artwork.  Oh well.    :-\

A bit off topic,

Hey Dave, you got a pic of the bike handy?  I'd love to check it out.  Toss it up in the hobby thread if you get a chance.

I am reminded of an older definition listed in the Websters Dictionary:

Tattoo,,, An indelible marking on the skin, usually worn by sailors and other people of low class.

In some cultures, especially Polynesian, a tattoo is a rite of manhood/womanhood and also a sign authority and leadership. Other cultures have many body piercings which imply the same thing. Western cultures take these forms of adornment and use them mainly for vanity. However, they imply the same thing. Many women pierce and tattoo their body for different reasons than men do. Women do it to display for feminine purposes, while men do it as a rite of passage, or as a rite of comradeship. It really hasn't changed much in meaning over history.

Well, some 2,000-odd years ago, tattoos were VERY popular in Russia, lol.  Or at least Siberia. The frozen body of a Scythian chieftain dating to 50 BCE was unearthed that was, to put it mildly, heavily tattooed.  The designs have since become popular . . . again.  :)

The "Iceman" from the Alps, dating to much earlier, was also tattooed.

But . . . times have changed all over, lol.

Found in 1991 in the Schnalstal glacier in the Ötztal Alps, near Hauslabjoch on the border between Austria and Italy, Ötzi dates approx. from 3300 BC, and has about 57 carbon tattoos consisting of simple dots and lines on his lower spine, behind his left knee, and on his right ankle.

Subsequent surveys showed in October 1991 that the body had been located 92.56 meters inside Italian territory :D: since 1998 it has been on display at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, Italy.
