To the OP.

It does have a Kremlin, although not much to look at. The main attraction is the center, or Bauman Street, where you'll find a lot of shops, restaurants, and some discos. It does have a new sports complex and arena close to the center as well.

Getting around the city is relatively easy using any means of buses, trolleys, etc.

And the underground...

Bauman street?!Is it the only thing you noticed there?!
OMG, we have a lot of shopping malls with cinemas, skating rinks, swimming pools and cafes and restaurants! (TSUM, GUM, Suvar Plaza, Koltso, Ramstore(city centre), Mega, Bahetle, Park House, Yuzhniy, Tandem)WE have a waterpark(another one is in the process of building now),we have a river port with boats-you can go on a short river excursion,  we have a circus, we have many antique mosques, we have a big entertaining place Tugan avilim(built in the style of a tatar village), we have an amusement park, we have a huge disco complex
Plaza, we have many museums, you can go on an excursion to different monasteries including the most popular Raifsky monastery where many russians come from far away countries.

As for the Kremlin where" not much to look at"(according to your words)-there are 2 famous mosques there, one of which is the biggest one in Europe(Kul -Sharif mosque), one Church, a falling Suumbike tower(which is the symbol of Kazan), a museum, the President's house, and the art gallery.

Besides Kazan is connected with many historical events in Russia and many famous people were born or lived here.
For example you can see the house where Pushkin lived before he wrote his "Captain's daughter)or the house where Lenin lived when he was a student and the University where Lenin studied the law and graduated from, yes Kazan is the city where Lenin started his revolutionary work!In front of that University you can see the monument of 17-yo Lenin.(you will hardly recognize him)
Kazan also has a famous Opera House, the Music Hall and many theatres!

The prices are low in comparison with Moscow or SPB/
You can find apts and hotels$ 30-60 per night

and I thought my post was relatively positive. when I left Kazan it was just starting to build itself back up. You have to admit back in '03 there wasnt much there. Yes Bauman Street was the "big" thing there at the time, and still is the main place to go.

I've also been to the Opera House and Music Hall, excuse me for forgetting, its only been 4 years since I was there.

again I like Kazan, it was where I wanted to live when I came to Russia, but I just can't make the money there like here in Moscow. It is one of my favorite cities in Russia, hands down.

Also, not to critisize the Kremlin, but it wasn't that impressive to me...sorry. Darling, I understand how defensive Russians can be about their city, country, etc., but it is what it is.

Ok, and now you have an underground, that would be the etc in my post. like I said it has built up nicely.

your English seems pretty good. I've reread my post...sorry but it sounds mostly positive, the Kremlin notwithstanding.

relax, and enjoy your city. when I was there I certainly did. Good luck.

My hometown is also Kazan :) i believe we have the shortest subway in the world (5 stations). Also the most beautiful in Russia built in Tatar style but unfortunatelly the least visited ::)

Upon first reading this, I thought you meant that Kazan's subway was built in Tatar style (which of course would have accounted for its short span, what with horse-drawn carriages and their attendant problems :D ;D).

:) The stations have the mosaics on the walls from fairy tales of famous tatar writer. It's quite unusual and worth seeing as anything else too. So welcome to Kazan ;)
