Our first trip to a Super Target, we left with nothing because everything from the food to the clothing was "synthetic".

That is interesting.  My wife has a little side business, where she buys clothing here in the US (clearance), and sends it to her mother and sister to resell.  She tells me the selection and quality of the clothing in Russia is typically not as good as here, and that she finds more natural fiber and better blends than the mostly synthetic material found there.  The customers back in Russia are always asking when the next shipment is going to arrive, and it is usually all sold very quickly.

I know there are quality clothes available here as Lena's 3 1/2 closets full of clothes can be used as proof!   Our picky Russian wives just know where to find them!  Lena has sent boxes of her clothes back to her Mom in Russia and the women there gobbled them up like they were new found treasures.

I am glad you are enjoying the story.
As far as what defines a "real man", if I had to explain it with one word it would be "confidence."  And I have news for you, it isn't only RW that look for confident men!    It is ironic that this process has a tendency to undermine whatever confidence a man may have too.  That is why RWD is so very important IMO.  Now you guys go off to the fsu fully prepared for what you are up against and that is a huge plus.  But in reality confidence and self assurance is a personality trait that you either have or you don't.

Our American society and culture has changed the male role very much in this area.  A confident man is almost frowned on in our society.  We have been told to back off from being too over bearing and to allow women to have an equal say.  I agree with the equality part but the feminist movement in this country has neutered many of the males from their more traditional roles.  They do not want "real men" to act "in charge" of anything and because of the years of pressure applied, their is an inordinate amount of men that are totally PW.  RW do not want a man that is PW!

The paradox here is that even though many of the AW are fully into the feminist way of thinking, they still cannot help but to be attracted to "real men" either.  Of course ALL women will spend the rest of their married life trying castrate you into a gelding!

I have been thinking about your question and my answer.  I would like to add that another important trait that is valuable in this pursuit is the ability to walk away.  I guess you don't need this if you pick the right girl from the start, but almost every train wreck I have read about, the guy had some preview of coming attractions, but just could not walk away.  Why?  A variety of reasons like neediness, lack of self esteem, cheapness and even laziness.  Rather than face the music and cut bait, a lot of men just go into a state of denial and hope for the best.  That usually blows up in their face eventually.

Expectations

I really didn’t know what to expect when Lena arrived.  As per my usual MO, I was just winging it.  Some of it was typical women stuff.  Even though my son and I were very neat in our home together, Lena found things to show we needed a woman’s touch.  “Neat and orderly” were not her primary concern as was general cleanliness.  Not much has changed over the years either!  Lena needs the kitchen counters to be “hospital clean” but a certain amount of disorder is acceptable. 

Funny indeed. My Ulyana is also a clean freak. But she is in no way an organizational freak .. LOL ...

Our first trip to the local grocery store was a major disappointment for me.  It wasn’t a “super” store, but it was a relatively new grocery store with an extensive precooked section and leaned toward more of the gourmet type goods.  I kept waiting for a reaction from Lena and I’ll be damned if she didn’t act like she had always shopped there!

My Ulyana kept her cool when I took her to the best, most huge, coolest organic supermarket around. We went in, ... . no reaction. We shopped ... and shopped .... and shopped ... all the time keeping her cool while she couldn't resist filling up 2 carts of stuff that inside, I KNEW she was really excited to see and get .. LOL ... 

A RW does not shop like an AW.  They need to “inspect” the clothing ie; how it is sewn, the thread count of the material used as well as the overall quality is as important as the “look” of the piece.  There simply is no room for an impulse buy in their world.  As we walked out of Kmart empty handed Lena’s only remark was “Rags! 

Very true. My experiences shopping with AWs and Ulyana are completely different. To be honest, I really enjoy shopping with Ulyana. I just watch her. It's a whole intense experience I could never have imagined. One of my favorite things she said to me was, "Shopping is hunting for women .. "

By the way, about fitting in - Ulyana didn't like it at all when people would come up and say, "Oh hi, are you from Russia ?".
