Hello everyone, new to RWD and going to Russia on May 8th
« on: April 24, 2008, 03:58:04 PM »
Hello everyone
I have just joined RWD, browsed around at the different topics and I must say that this is a very good informative forum. I myself am in a long distance relationship with a RW, she is from Nizhniy Novgorod and I am leaving on May 8th to see her. Now after reading some of the blogs on here about what agency is better, I would have to say that it boils down to personal choice on what you decide what agency is best for that person, me personally, I went with Anastasia and so far I haven't had any problems what so ever. I did read that E/M is by far the people's choice and that Anastasia is pretty bad, but like I said it comes down to personal choice. Now, as far as my long distance relationship, we have corresponded since Oct 07 and have been talking on the phone everyday since Dec. But basically, like I am sure that everyone here has done, I was corresponding with several women and basically starting narrowing the field of who I would like to focus my attention on and eventually narrowed it down to one and that is who I am going to go and see.
After reading some forums/blogs on GCG or however you put it, regardless of the out come, it is still worth the experience, to travel into the unknown and seeing what might become, but so far everything is going great she's excited and I am most definitely excited to go and be with her.
One thing about these GCG, that I have not read about, is "how old are these women?" I have done my fair share of research on the do's and don't. So far so good and I have yet to run into any red flags what so ever, my long distance girlfriend is 32 with a 5yr old son and I am 33 with a 6yr old daughter that doesn't live with me, from what I gather is that these GCG are young, say early to mid 20's and have no children involved or might have children, I don't know. But either way, I have already got everything in order and it is just a matter of time before I leave to Russia.

Welcome Felix.  I hope you have a good trip to Russia.  N. Novgorod is a very interesting city.  I think you will like it there.  I hope you do a trip report and tell us about your visit when you return.

GCG come in all descriptions.  Just accept that she wouldn't be communcating with you if emigration were'nt in at least the back of her mind.  Nothing wrong with that, you just have to be able to separate true feelings from the fake ones.

Thanks Turboguy and Ronnie
I will be there for 27 days. I will be taking alot of pictures and spending much quality time with her and her son. Yeah Ronnie, I do have to accept the fact that there is immigration in the back of her mind but actually, we really haven't talked about it much, she tells me action speak louder then words.

Felix, the GCG come in all ages and shapes.  :)

They are distinct by their motivation that is different from love and desire to make the man happy.

My guess would be that if a woman has a relatively good standing in her country, good life and earnings, then she is likely not a GCG.

Should be ok on not being a GCG.  Also, looks like she is not listed on Anastiaweb anymore as no one meets that criteria.  Have a good trip.

Felix- welcome to the forum. I do hope you have a backup plan. You are making a great leap of faith going to spend 27 days straight with one woman on the first visit. I assume this is your first visit to see her so correct me if I am wrong. Are you staying in a hotel or did you line up an apartment?

If you haven't lined up a backup plan, I urge you to do immediately if you haven't already met this woman. I would also encourage to watch VERY CLOSELY how she interacts with her child. Russian children can be some of the most difficult children I've ever known due to the fact that often the RW aren't that strict with their children. I think that sometimes they over-compensate for the divorce but every one is different but keep a close eye on that relationship. Make sure you discuss parenting with this woman. Take time to form a relationship with the child.

If you don't have a backup plan you are very brave or very foolish. Better to have a plan and not need it than vice versa. Regardless I wish you a good trip and a positive meeting. Don't forget that 9 May is Victory Day and it is a very important national holiday. I would urge you to spend it in Moscow and THEN got to Nizhny Nov. The Victory Day parade is a must see in Moscow. Often they hold a pretty good concert at Victory Park (Park Pobedy Metro Station) in Moscow too.

BTW, check out the krepost (fortress) and take a walk along the top of the wall. It is quite interesting and one of the larger ones in Russian. There are some pretty good pizza places in Nizhy too if you want a good bite to eat that isn't that expensive as well.

As mentioned GCG comes in all shapes, sizes and ages!
Take time to learn the language. Even a little can go a long ways...

Get off your butt and go! Don't make excuses why you can't do it, find a way to make it work! Always go with a backup plan too!!!

Therefore what she tells you, by her own expression, means little.  Keep you eyes wide open and don't think you can fix something that seems off key.

Taz,
Thanks for the welcome, BTW, I ready your adventure with JD, I started reading the whole forum at about 11:45pm Saturday and didn't stop until 6:10am and finished later on that afternoon Sunday. It was very funny and interesting to read. My thoughts on your friend JD is that he seriously needs an attitude adjustment and to relax, the only trouble that I had with him, is that he was obviously meeting great women but I guess from what you were telling is that he kept on NEXTING them trying to land something better except for the ones that needed to be nexted.
Yes this is my first visit to see her, yes it is a great leap of faith to go and spend 27 days with her, I do have a place lined up. As far as a backup plan, well honestly I don't have one, I'll just go with the flow, that my sound fool hardy to probably everyone here, but I do have an adventurous attitude, I'm not one to shy away and weep from a bump on the road. Thanks for the advice on watching closely, I have a Russian female friend here and she has a 15yr old son, he thinks that I am the coolest friend that his mom has, he was telling me when she wasn't around not around that she can be the biggest "B1atch", I just told him that she just wants you to become better that's all, the kid is very smart 150+ IQ or somewhere in the range or higher?
Thanks for the info about Victory Day, I forgot about that, I won't be flying into Moscow, I'm flying directly to the airport there in N. Novgorod and it is not going to get there until 11pm. Ah pizza, I love some good pizza. I will definitely be doing some site seeing, as I bought a new digital camera for the trip, so I will be taking alot of pictures.

Ronnie,
I will keep my eyes open and keep an open mind also, thanks for the advice.

When I get back I will post how things went in Nizhniy Novgorod. :)

Utrobina, she's a stunner!

Felix,
You are one crazy person for doing this, you know that?  Holy smokes 4 weeks with someone you have never met?!

I just came back from a trip and the "top" girls I wrote incessantly to for months turned out to be completely incompatible for me, some I knew within the first minute.  Beware of the shock that is about to hit you, first from going to Russia the 1st time and the 2nd when you meet your lady in person and realize she isn't exactly the lady you formed in your mind.

GCG's are almost non existant in today's Russia, you have nothing to fear there.  Scammers are where its at, and dealing with those its easy, just watch your wallet.  Do your best to avoid the temptation to give her money.

DKMM,
Thanks for the compliment (crazy) :applaud: There is nothing wrong with going overseas for almost 4 weeks to be with someone, would it be any different if I went there without the intentions of meeting a woman there and then suddenly meet a woman by chance and have absolutely no idea of her background and spent the rest of my time there with her? No not really. It's no more crazier then meeting a woman at a bar or where ever and bump uglies with her that same night, not knowing if she has any STD's (using a condom which is not foolproof and there is that slight chance she could get pregnant) or if she is going to gun you down, stalk you etc etc etc...

Anyways my point being, what does it matter if it's 1 2 3 or 4 weeks, it's still the same to me, time killed, money spent and being with someone who I could spend my life with, besides isn't that what most of these other gentlemen say in here, to have as much face to face time as possible or I am wrong? I'm just doing it my way. You might do it differently but the end result will be the same....to find ourselves a good Russian woman.

What shock are you talking about???? The only shock that I had was when I found out my International roaming minutes cost is $4.99/min instead of the $1.49 that I thought that it was. If your talking about difference in culture? That is nothing compared to Vietnam and that is a true 3rd world country in every sense, I was there for 3 or 3 1/2 weeks visiting relatives (never been there before that trip)and that wasn't really much of a shock to me, I don't think that it even phased me as far as culture and their society was concerned. So as far as shock is concerned to myself, more then likely it will be none existent. Well there will be one thing that will shock me.....that is if I get through customs in 15 min's without any hassles, now that will be a shocker!!!

As far as realization of my lady....do you mean the shock? I have to ask you and I'm going to base this off of your quote  "Beware of the shock that is about to hit you, first from going to Russia the 1st time and the 2nd when you meet your lady in person and realize she isn't exactly the lady you formed in your mind." Mostly on the 2nd part. Has the ladies that you went and seen from your "top" girls ever sent you recent photos of them in their natural surroundings (without glamor shots)other then the ones that you saw on their profiles? And if they did, did you just form something in your mind that made her perfect and she didn't meet those expectations?
I am not trying to be an a$$. I am just asking you an honest question based off of what you replied to me.

I have no realization of anything other then to have a damn good time there and enjoy the new scenery, take many photos of my trip and then come back home, to well, another day of paying bills  :wallbash:

Thanks for the info of GCG in today's Russia. Scammers come from all walks of life and the biggest one of them all is the IRS!  :exploding:

felix8787 I wish you a safe trip.  I just returned from Khabarovsk about 2 months ago.  Had a great time.  I also had the intention of meeting just one girl.  Olya, her friends, and her family were all wonderful!!!  I went there with the attitude that this is a vacation with hopefully more.  Best vacation I ever had.  Just go with the idea of a vacation and every thing else will work out one way or another. At least it did for me.  Any ways... enjoy yourself.

felix,  I think everyone's concern is regarding the amount of time for a first visit, and here's why.  Those that have been around these boards for awhile have seen many cases where a man wrote to a woman and everything seemed perfect, recent and natural pictures were exchanged, etc., but then when they finally met face to face, for whatever reason the chemistry just wasn't there, or a disagreement took place during the trip.  I'm not saying that will be the case with you, but have you considered your options should it happen?  If your entire trip is planned around this woman and then for whatever reason things go sour, what is your backup plan?

I think most will agree that on a second trip and beyond, the more time you can spend together the better, but for a first trip, it can be risky.

Talon71,
Thank you for the advice, I will be treating this like a vacation, as a matter of fact it is my first vacation!!! :)

ScottinCrimea,
The reason why I am taking so long of a trip is because after I get back I will be heading to boot camp for the Army but if time permits I probably might take another vacation over there, I would like this trip to be very memorable and hopefully things will work out in the end. I don't have a backup plan or a list of other potentials, I just want to explore something different, should things work out (I do have a very positive attitude about this) then great, if not, it doesn't mean that the world is going to end, I will just move on. But either way it will be one hell of a trip regardless of how it is perceived. But thank you and everyone else for their concern, it is appreciated. 3 days and counting

Felix, you do whatever you feel is right for YOU!!!
There is no right way, there is no wrong way :)
I always went to meet One Woman and One Woman only. My reasoning? I can't but imagine how Agency Women feel knowing they are simply one on a menu of many, to be paraded, prodded and sampled.........  ;D
When I went to meet One Woman (following many emails, texts and phone calls) and she knew that I was only going to meet her, nobody else, she felt Special and that I was Serious about her only!! The fact that she knew this meant a whole hell of a Lot.
Hey, it was a Risk I felt was worth taking...
That's just me :)

Well Utrobina,
With you me and a few others, if Felix eventually becomes another success story I think we should nominate N. Novgorod as the official WOVO capital of the Russian Federation

Felix,
You mentioned going to boot camp, meaning you've enlisted.  Are you aware that your independent trip will disqualify you from holding sensitive jobs in the military?

Utrobia, exactly, there is no right way or wrong way..... Just do it!

Jet, thanks for the vote of confidence!

Darren, you bet I will have an awesome trip and did you get your visa???

Ronnie, I was at meps today (not sworn in yet), but I have to talk to the security interviewer tomorrow about other things ( my mos which does require security clearance) then get sworn in, I won't tell if you don't tell  :), no I wasn't aware of that, but my recruiter does know that I am leaving for Russia, he just wants to make sure that all of my paperwork is in order. But if it comes down to that, I would rather chose to have my freedom to travel where I want then to be held down by bureaucracy.

But after my night gig tomorrow, I will get a few hours of sleep then I am off to Russia and just make it in time to celebrate Victory day there!

Take care everyone, see you guys when I get back!!!

Your recruiter may not be aware or doesn't want to tell you.  The EBI is done while you're in boot camp and if they decline you the can give you a different MOS that doesn't require a security clearance - which may not be what you signed up to do.  Just be prepared for that if it happens....let's hope you slide through..and regardless, I want to congratulate you on your decision to serve in the military.

For those interested, I spoke with Felix for a few moments this morning.
Flight was good, no issues w/ passport control or customs and his lady was there to greet him at the airport w/ her son.
Travel agency nipped him for an extra fee on registration, since he wasn't staying in a hotel he got charged to register residence as well as passport.
Things are going very well w/ the young lady so far...

He sounded calm and happy so I think he's off to a good start  ;)

That is nothing compared to Vietnam and that is a true 3rd world country in every sense, I was there for 3 or 3 1/2 weeks visiting relatives (never been there before that trip)and that wasn't really much of a shock to me, I don't think that it even phased me as far as culture and their society was concerned.

Are you half Vietnamese like I am? I suspect you're in your mid 30's or early 40's. You've got money to stay in the FSU for 4 months but your initial pay in the military will not finance further trips or bring a lady here unless you have reserve cash. Being the low man on the totem pole, you may not easily get vacation time to visit your RW for awhile.

Boot camp will be tough, especially at your age. I've seen young men who were former gang members break down and cry in boot camp. But the military has cleaned up a lot of young men's bad attitudes.

You will have a difficult time focusing on any relationship and staying in communication with your RW. You will be so fatigued that there will be times you willfeel like falling asleep while standing up. This will happen for two months. It will be easier while you learn your MOS but you still have little freedom to leave the country or time to start up any paperwork to get your lady in the States. Once you are done with your training, you will have to probably relocate to another State or Country. Even if you're not in a hot zone fighting, you are training. Multiple times I've spent up to a month and a half in the woods training. If you're newly married to a RW, these lonely times may be difficult for her. Make sure she understands your situation. If you do sign up, thanks for your contribution to the country. It's can be a hardship for you and for the families of soldiers too. It takes a special woman to be supportive and stay devoted to a military husband while he's away doing his duty.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.
