Dear Misha, when we go shopping nobody asks us if we are married for love or "calculation"- they charge same way.

There is a big difference if it is 40K a year or 150K.

There is also a big difference if a woman marries for love or if she marries "по расчёту" (marriage by "calculation").
There is a big difference between comfortable life (with love and lakes) with 40K and 150K. Not so?

Well, a woman who is only interested in monetary gain will have a different outlook. I will cite as a case in point a young couple that I know. He was a student, went off to Russia to teach English. Lived there a few years, met someone, got married. They then came to Canada. He was far from rich, earning probably less than $20,000 a year when they returned to Canada. She worked almost from the first day they arrived. She couldn't spend a lot on shopping, and what she did she earned herself. However, she took it all in stride as she married for love.

There is also a difference between a happy life with a man you love at $40,000 and a comfortable life in a loveless marriage with a man who earns 150k. Not so?

It is not the money that will guarantee happiness. Here is a brilliant discussion on happiness on TED: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/dan_gilbert_asks_why_are_we_happy.html.

Listen, the main reason why RW leave their country IS economy, next is (MAYBE!) the want to have a husband. The first being economy anyway.

To make our productive discussion more productive))) let's ask the Canadian53 about his income. It is not the "American" question but I am not American so forgive me  :)

No, an unhappy woman guarantees an unhappy wife. You should listen to the TED video. Here is an example of how money is meaningless to happiness: studies were done comparing the happiness of people who won the lottery (i.e. millions) versus those who became paraplegics. A year later, the paraplegics were as happy as the millionaires. Happiness is synthesized, we make our own happiness. Some women (and men) can never be truly happy: even if they marry a billionaire they will be disappointed that he is not in the Forbes top 100 list.

So, how much does your husband make? I am curious to hear how happy you are LOL. Sorry, it is not an American question, but I am not American either  ;)

In this regard I have an easy question- what makes a foreign wife happy in this (and Canada) country?

In this regard I have an easy question- what makes a foreign wife happy in this (and Canada) country?

And, I have an easy answer: they do. People make their own happiness. This is what I have noticed:

  • Bored people are boring. Russians/Canadians who whine all the time that they are bored and unhappy, invariable do little themselves to find happiness. They wait for the happiness and excitement to fall into their laps. The happiest people are those who will always find something to do and keep themselves busy.
  • Happy people also find reasons to be happy, whereas unhappy people look for reasons to be miserable. Call it the optimist/pessimist divide. An optimist will look for reasons to be satisfied and content, whereas pessimists are emotional vampires.

The women to avoid IMHO opinion are those that were not happy before marriage, especially those who expect that a rich husband will magically bring them happiness. Invariably, these women will be unhappy no matter what. Likewise, if I were a woman, I would also be wary of those men that are bitter and always going on about how awful AW (or Canadian women, or fill-in-the-blank women) are. If he could not be happy before marriage, he is unlikely to be happy after marriage either.

Well, at least I know where you are coming from. So, if your husband loses his job and all of his money, do you divorce him the next day? Or will you continue to live with him in misery?

Let's be serious- I am not coming from my family income, I've been here for 7 years and talked to many RW. 40-45K income is hard to deal with.

I have seen many of your posts and you talk a lot about money. It just seems you base your decision on how much a man makes.

If this man that you love did not make 150K would you married him.... I think No, you would of moved on to the next guy.

Just my opinion.

I've been noticing the same thing.  Doll seems to judge whether a relationship will succeed or fail based on the money involved.  This quote, in which she projects her priorities onto all other RW, pretty much says it all:

"Listen, the main reason why RW leave their country IS economy, next is (MAYBE!) the want to have a husband. The first being economy anyway."

She has pretty much admitted that she wouldn't have fallen in love with her husband if he wasn't bringing down at least 150K.

How many women on here would be offended if I were to say that the main reason why AM bring RW to their country is for a hot body, good sex and for someone to cook and clean house?  Note that I'm not saying some, but ALL, same as Doll.

Guys, chill down- my husband made half of it when we got married.
And yes- my posts in this thread are based on money because Canadian was talking of some comfortable life and he asked questions. Know nothing about the happiness in his future family.
As for my loving money talks- go and read RW forum on this subject where the brides still in Russia ask these very questions. And they get the answers.
