Had you actually become saner you would have realized it was a scam and a recruitment technique by the Zen cult, because the monks have a much stricter meditating routine than what they offer the tourists.. ;D

Like in the old joke - if you are paranoid it doesn't mean that nobody follows you...   :D   Must be hard leaving in fear that little green men will come and steel your sanity...   ;)

Last year we went to Innuvik - small town above Arctic Circle in Northers Territories, Canada.   All buildings there built on stilts, all pipes between the buildings running on stilts as well.   Dreadful place, but for the different reason...   :(

Way back in the day when I was an undergrad at the University of Kansas.. before art school.. I was  hanging out in the Student Union when two very cute Asian girls approached me and started chatting with heavy accents.. I thought they were adorable and was really flattered when they invited me to their house for dinner.  Upon arrival at the house I realized a lot of people lived there.  They introduced me to a guy who was the "director".  I thought that was an odd title.. then the girls left to do somethng and the "director" took me into another room and started to chat with me.  then he asked me if I would like to watch a video and I agreed.  Within a couple of minutes of the video the Reverend Moon appeared on screen.  That is when I packed up and got the hell out of there.  Unfortunately the girls had gotten my phone number.  It took months to get the Moonies off my back.

Possum.. that is a cult.  Zen practitioners in Japan are not even close.

And, since this week is the anniversary of the Jonestown disaster...

It dudn't take an expert to see through the BS these Buddhist cults are putting out there to trick more people into joining their little cults.

I think you should respect other people believes...   Those "cults" were here long before Orthodox church...

Oooops..

this is actually an interesting point of topic in the discussion of relations between WM/FSUW.

When I first met the Ukrainain girl here in SF last summer I was really shocked by the comments she made about Gays, Blacks, Mexicans and Jews within the first hours of meeting her.  Normally, if it had been an AW I would have tossed her out of my car and never looked back, but, instead I felt I needed to help this brand new immigrant to understand how wrong her comments were.  However, as time progressed I noticed the frequent use of the word "normal" to describe the kind of people she approved of and "not normal" for everyone else.  Her views about Gays, Blacks, Mexicans and Jews never changed but she became adept in masking her xenophobia.  There were numerous reasons I finally ended this friendship but that was near the top.

In my discussions with "A" before we met I frankly grilled her, gently and a little at a time, to get an understanding to her points of view on such hotpoint topics.  If she had shown ANY tendency towards racism or religious intolerance it would have been the end of the relationship before it even began.

I am curious what others have experienced in this realm?

Sculpto, you don't want to say that none of US born men & women don't have these kind of views?   ;)   Most of the time they just don't share it with the total stranger, that's all.   That Ukrainian girl wasn't too bright if you want my unsolicited opinion.   :D

If by little green men you mean the Buddhist cults and Mormons, they don't scare me in the least.. It's the people who, in the name of religious tolerance, glorify them while trashing Christianity that give me the creeps.. ;)

If I were you I wouldn't be so quick to judge this poor Ukrainian girl and call her names just because she won't be brainwashed by the multi-cultists in the American media.. She doesn't have to rely on their watered down coverage for information about the real world because she lives in the real world.. and in the real world, she goes out in the street and sees gangbangers raping and killing people left and right.. She sees Mexican drug lords driving around in their luxury cars, while regular Mexicans, most of whom are in the US illegally, are standing in line for their welfare checks.. She goes out in the street and sees an angry gay mob yelling at an elderly woman who dared to speak out against this absolute travesty called gay 'marriage'.. She knows she can't rely on the police to protect her at any time because the chief of police is a tiny woman with a tiny head who is probably unqualified and got the position through affirmative action, owing to the fact that she's a lesbian..

In other words, she sees stuff that rarely gets reported- let alone analyzed- because the media is a joke.. Rupert Murdoch said the other day that the American media have dug themselves into a hole they're not going to be able to climb out of, or words to that effect.. I happen to believe that's the case.. Their credibility is less than zero because of the heavy left-wing slant and political correctness, and it sounds like that Ukrainian girl understands that better than you do, even though you've lived in that sanctuary utopia longer than her..

Oh, and if you think I'm a bigot and that most Americans would disagree with me, you are mistaken.. Because a) I'm not a bigot and I welcome good moral people of ALL races and faiths, and b) half, if not more Americans would agree with me privately but would never admit it in public for fear of the so-called 'progressive' liberals, who have so much love and compassion for everybody, except those who disagree with them.. ;)

By trashing Christianity I mean calling it an intolerant religion, akin to militant Islam..

Sculpto & Possum, why don't you open up a new thread and have it out there ;)? Have pity on my advanced age, I'm having serious difficulties in connecting the last dozen pages or so to a TR to Moscow :( ;D.

Great suggestion, Sandro!. I'd be totally in favor of continuing this conversation in a separate thread because the subject is very interesting and in many ways controversial.. Sadly, though, I doubt my opponent is inclined to discuss these things like an adult.. He seems to be very close-minded for all his talk about enlightenment.. :D

Well, if you're not interested in just a one-on-one debate, just go to the Odds & Ends section, open up a new thread with a suitable title, and see who follows you there ;).

That would be the logical course of action.. But the problem is, I didn't really intend to hijack this thread by my post.. I was just trying to put things in perspective for Sculpto, who seemed to be struggling with the fact that not all FSU women are politically correct.. ;) Again, I would be happy to discuss this issue in a respectful civilized manner, but over the years I've come to realize that not all people are capable of dealing with controversial topics in an adult way.. Instead, they prefer name calling whenever they're faced with an inconvenient fact.. :(

I noticed the frequent use of the word "normal" to describe the kind of people she approved of and "not normal" for everyone else.

For someone who is courting a woman from Russia, you seem a bit oblivious to the fact that a person's second language is shaped by their first. There are words that are outwardly the same in two languages, but will have different meanings. Linguists sometimes call these "false friends." When someone learns another language, at an early stage they will use the word in their new language with the meaning of their first language. This can cause some confusion when speaking to someone who is a native speaker in the language they are learning who does not speak their native tongue. Normal is one of these words. The meaning is the same, but it is used a bit differently. When asked, for example, "как дела" or how are things in Russia, you can answer "нормально" or "normal." Likewise, you encounter the expression "ненормальные люди" in Russian. The meaning can change on the context, but overall in Russian it is not quite as derogatory as it is comes across in English as "not normal." It can be used to apply to people who are a bit crazy, out of the ordinary, eccentric, etc....
