If most participants disagree with you there's no reason to think they are just being clannish; perhaps they have good individual reasons to disagree, each of them.  Striking a defensive pose like you do is just childish, especially if you are really capable of delivering a rational argument like you claim.  And no, "I have studied these things therefore I am right" is NOT an example of a rational argument.

I will talk to ADMIN Dan about collecting a list of "experienced" debate volunteers and start a poll to see who we can elect as the "Champion RWD Debater!"  

Then if some "NEWBIE" comes to RWD and dares disturb the peace and tranquility of our little forum, we can call out our Champion RWD Debater and sick him or her on the ruffian.

Diva's response to me was par for the course.. I know her type very well, an obnoxious know-it-all 'new Russian' babe with money to burn.. Moscow's got them in spades.. They usually have no appreciation for the people they consider to be beneath them either in social station, education or any number of other things.. Financed by her daddy's millions (he is one or Russia's oligarch's with his wealth valued at well over half a billion dollars), she decided to launch a new fashion line in the United States. She had plans to open hundred of stores and she hobnobbed with Paris Hilton. She only managed to open a dozen or so stores and now, her chain in the United States is bankrupt. M-Diva: You've made a succession of remarks throughout a few posts in this thread, some of those remarks I agree with and some read very much like you are Putin's press secretary. You remarked early about enjoying a good debate and perhaps stirring things up a little, or words to that effect. I have no issue with much of what you've noted here but in fact it has only been presented in the form of opinion, perhaps opinion well formed, I don't know, but you have not evidenced anything other than to say you've studied these things.

I was somewhat amused and to an extent agreed with your sarcasm regarding people sitting in front of CNN or Fox and carefully analysing every demographic detail stretching across 11 time zones. It happens, it happens in the very same way as people draw the conclusion you have regarding American kids being saddled with study debt for so long and in debt up to their ears with housing whilst Russians of similar age are doing so much better. It is achieved by taking a convenient section of the facts and magnifying them to suit the conclusion we wish to draw. The point is, don't point the finger until you are sure no fingers are pointing right back at self.

You've reacted to what you see as a shotgun approach from others, therefore, I suggest you read again much of what you've written here, it is fun to read and I enjoyed many of your remarks but it is IMO very shotgun. Did you expect anything else in return? People are people.  When you are among a large group of friends, do you not find several who disagree with you? Do you not find several who will argue the same or similar line? Is it productive to say, there is too many of you arguing counterpoint therefore I will pack up my bat and ball and not play with you?

Personally I think you have much to offer a forum such as this, perhaps more than many and IMO are a refreshing addition. If there is a weakness in forums such as this it is that so many make effort to "prove" a point beyond any doubt, sometimes with a scientific approach, I have little to no issue with that approach, but in reality it is not possible universally because there is always someone with legitimate counterpoint, in reality, forums such as this are a conduit to articulate or share experience/s or observations. The number of subjects you've raised in a few posts would take an age to discuss across a forum and perhaps you might like to pick out one or two and expand on those. One I am particularly interested in is your comment regarding equality of Russians. I've long thought, simply based on my observations and nothing more, (Monstrous generalisation here) that Russian Women are of stronger personality than Russian Men so it comes as no surprise to me that in certain economic situations, RW might be gaining the upper hand socially as you suggest.

If you feel you are being ganged up on, empathy abounds, as a foreigner without language, I walked into Russia several years ago................................

I saw a thing on her on RT a couple of weeks ago.  They showed Nicole "never did anything to deserve fame" at Kira's party.  Nicole and Paris were paid quite well to show up at Kiras coming out party, but, they did not appear comfortable hanging out with the Russians.  Nicole especially had this look of "WTF is going on" on her face.  

here in the BA I know about half a dozen "new millionaires" that made a fortune during the .com.  If you met those guys you would never know they have millions.. they are the same punk rock/ hippie dudes that happen to be genious coders they were before whatever thing they invented got them a lot of money.  

But.. I guess it is normal when a country has been deprived for so long for people to go a bit crazy when they get a little taste of the sweet life.  They will mature and learn soon enough that lots of money, great parties and beatuiful friends don't mean they will be happy or feel fullfilled.

There is an expectation here that a lot of these marginal businesses which never managed to produce operating income past the break-even point are going down in the next few months.  These businesses were enabled (temporarily) by those who had managed to set aside enough black money that washing it was keeping up the appearance of functional business. You could go into the malls a couple of years ago and watch the stores where there were more clerks than customers and more security guards than clerks.  Boutique businesses were setup for GF's, wives, mistresses and children to play at running a business with little or no controls set up and a "what the hell" customer service attitude since the business was always showing profits without effort.  Now that the country is out of cash, Daddy is having problems selling off things fast enough to keep up with the hemorrhaging income statement.

I walked through Metrograd (under Kreshatyk/Bessarabska) this afternoon and notice over a dozen empty store locations.  Christmas is ending and several operations are pulling the plug, or having it pulled.

It looks like tough times ahead for Ukraine and while the people may survive, I am not so sure about the government and economic infrastructure.

Oh yeah, that Euro 2012 project that they kept putting off each year with their zatra, zatra dismissals?  How fast do you think they can build/remodel 50+ hotels, 4 airports and 2 from-scratch stadiums?  Kiss that goodbye, IMF isn't going to be all warm and fuzzy over the next hat-in-hand request for a bailout and the EU has other problems now, some of which they are blaming on Ukraine.

Maybe soon it will return to being grammatically correct to refer to "the Ukraine".
