Hello
« on: April 24, 2009, 04:34:48 PM »
Hi.
So i finally thought of what i can say here, first of all, thank you everyone for the warm (mostly :D ) welcome, that you gave me in other topics :)
A little about myself.. hmm, well I'm a russian girl (early 20's, in case you are wondering), living in Moscow, and sometimes when i'm bored i come to this forum, it's quite entertaining, some intelligent people here :) I'm engaged to a wonderful belgian guy, hopefully we will get married soon, but that depends on the visa of course, i guess most of you are american here, but it's just interesting to see what you all have to say, and maybe help someone see how it looks from this side of the "barricades" :P
Oh, and i have to apologize for being off-topic all the time, i just type what comes to my mind :D

Welcome!

As for the Off Topic concern, you'd be one of the only ones here who worried about it.

Look around and enjoy yourself!

Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss

Welcome Aloe.
I hope your Belgian guy will manage to get the visa, if he needs any support I might be able to give him some hints or places to search.
Depending on how attached you are to the big city life, you will probably like it in Belgium.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Welcome Aloe.  You have been a very pleasant newcomer.

Somewhere in the archives is the story of a very upbeat Belgian/Russia couple who are madly in love, XStevenX and LadyX.  LadyX had a long and interesting story to share.  You can start here:

Perhaps if you PM them, they will have some hints about the Belgian visa plus cheers for you.

Best wishes.

It's not him getting the visa, it's the other way around that might be a little of a problem :) Depends if he meets the minimum wage requirement, because different sources give different info on that one. But 1 thing for sure, after reading the topic about canadian visas on this forum, i'm much more optimistic about the belgian ones :D

thanks for info, visa seems to be of moderate trouble for belgium, compared to other countries. The hard part is obtaining permission to get married at a local commune office, because every commune has its own procedure, and its own (HUGE) list of documents you need to bring, and everybody's story is different, depending how bad their commune office is

It gets as  ridiculous as people being denied the permission, because of some absurd reasons (like the bride being there on tourist visa, when in fact she has fiancee visa, or the stamp on this document "not looking properly", and people have to redo stuff 100 times). I just hope our commune is gonna be normal ><
What they are doing basicly is a violation of human rights, so everybody wins at court, but it doesn't save you money or nerves or time
i guess many couples get their permission just fine, but it's not them who post on the forums :D people who have problems post, so i hope the problem is exagerrated. but it does seem like belgian bureaucracy is way way worse than russian

Getting a visa should be handled as getting an 'import license'.
Your fiancee should prepare a neat-looking fie with all requested documents (including some that seem not obliged) present it at once without any 'love stories', and calmly explain any questions.
Bureaucracy in Belgiun is present, and unlike in Russia there are less shortcuts.

Stay calm and polite, and people will cooperate.

Thanks :D
We did run into problems with our commune office, had to submit written testimonies of his entire family, that in their opinion, our marriage would be based on love, only then the mayor (yea, they sent us to the mayor), gave us permission to get married. Now for the visa part...
