I am no conservative when it comes to music (as I get a healthy dose of Public Enemy and N.W.A. every day) but I really am a sucker for romantic soul music and songs like this:

RENZO ARBORE AND HIS ORCHESTRA ITALIANA

Years ago (2008:
http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=6634.msg126605#msg126605) I posted on the subject of this original Italian radio/TV personality. Born in Foggia in 1937, he attended University in Naples and was fascinated by the local musical scene, which led him to found in 1991 L'Orchestra Italiana to popularise Neapolitan songs in widely acclaimed concerts in Europe, North and South America, Russia, China, Australia, etc. here playing a classic: Luna Rossa (Red Moon, composed in 1950  by V. De Cresceanzo whose son is the solo singer), with lyrics:

AGUSTIN LARA (1900-1970)

Ángel Agustín María Carlos Fausto Mariano Alfonso del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Lara y Aguirre del Pino was a gifted Mexican composer who from 1922 to 1968 wrote a number of memorable songs, sung by many international artists including:

Mentioning the movie Diva reminded me of this piece, reminiscent of Michel Legrand.

Love most of Leonard Cohen's works.  This is a particular favourite.  I've also linked Gary Beacom, a famous Canadian skater's routine to this piece.  Beacom is a "skater's skater", as his edges are unsurpassed.  If you watch at around the 52 second mark, those edges are exceptionally difficult to perform.

If you are going to mention Leonard Cohen; then this must be included: Hallelujah

Nice, ML.

I like Leonard Cohen's version, but in my mind, the gold standard is kd lang's version.

kd lang always had a special connection to Patsy Cline, even naming her band after Cline's band.  Here's something by Patsy Cline.

NEW MUSIC IN THE 1950s - Part I

The Italian musical scene in the early 1950s was still dominated by melodic singers, when sudddenly from the USA came a wave of new music with a strange name. A few examples:

NEW MUSIC IN THE 1950s - Part II

After exerting strenuously dancing the R'n'R, one needed the slower tempos provided by more "romantic" artists:

You already posted his Waltz No.2 two months ago, as I did 8 months ago under the title "A GREAT WALTZ" ;D. Time for another Waltz or three, from Boccherini's Night music in the streets of Madrid:

Russel Crow and Paul Bettany played the waltz from 7'53" to 9'53" in the great cabin of HMS Surprise :D.

HISTORIA DE UN AMOR
(1958)

A fine song by the Panamanian composer Carlos Eleta Almarán. Unlike the charming video clip, its lyrics are rather sad because it was prompted by the untimely death of his brother's wife.

I found a fine guitar score for it, and am preparing my own orchestration, adding several other instruments.
