Wisdom, Catchy Phrases and other Quips
« on: August 28, 2009, 03:54:28 AM »
Thought it might be interesting to start a thread of those little interesting thought provoking and insightful phrases we often see in posts and collect them in one place.

If possible quote them here so that the original link can be followed.  Dig through the archives a bit to find them.

An easy way to do this is open RWD in another tab or window, find the post, click reply, delete unwanted content but leaving the quote codes, copy and paste here as a reply.

[edit]

Adding a couple of rules..

Don't quote your own posts.
Don't discuss a quote here, use it to start a thread elsewhere.

Take your time, and don't let problems that you had in your past marriage affect your current and future relationships. Good luck!

The quickest way to find the way to my ignore list is to ask for advice, receive good advice from several experienced members who agree on the topic, then argue with them, tell them they are full of it, blatantly disregard the useful info given, and decide to go off and seek a sure and certain train wreck on his own,,,

I dare assure you that my social skills are high enough, and God gave me many talents. One of them - do not be offended by stupid attacks and not try to explain to those who don't want to understand.

For those interested in this venture it's best to look more closely at posts you do not agree with instead of picking and choosing what you want to hear.

You must look inwards and accept NO BS as to why you are doing what you are doing.

It gives impression as if you believe that when you will repeat the statement and reasoning sufficient amount of time - it will become a law.

But it does work in 0.1% of the cases, and those involved grasp at these examples.  And of course it is human nature to think we are that 0.1%, especially when we have a hot young body within our grasp.  The small head seems to accept the small percentages much more readily than does the large head.

Maybe it's because I take a more logical, pragmatic approach to life in general and have realized over time that (for me) infatuation is only a portion of the formula and that love has many components that over time change individually, but that in their sum produces that fuzzy feeling we all like and find desirable.  That is the balance I refer to.

Lily, imagine this situation:

-  You meet a man with the physical looks of your dream man.
-  He is intelligent, he is witty, he is charming.
-  You can sense that he is really attracted to you.
-  Every word that he speaks is connected to your soul.
-  You are in a warm, private and cozy place with a fireplace ablazing.
-  You are wearing your best clothes and your hair looks great.
-  You have had a very successful week where you work.
-  You have not had sex in two months.
-  You are at mid-cyle, ovulating.
-  Your favorite music is playing and he slides close to you, looks into your eyes and remarks how he loves this music.

What you are feeling is what the young man's little head feels about 10 times per day, every day.   :D :D :D

Sometimes, I get the impression that many men would spend more time shopping for a new car than they do trying to truly understand if they found the right woman to marry and spend the rest of their lives with.

I also disagree that relationships take a huge amount of effort.  If you truly love someone with all your heart and soul, you always want the best for him(her).

I believe you have to understand, and respect, the living soul who has entrusted his(/her) life to you.   A narcissist, or an individual who is spiritually dead, may always look for "balance", but that person was not capable of real love to begin with.  It is more a familiarity and convenience, rather than an emotional tie or devotion to the person.

In the end, every marriage is its own kingdom.  We can comment on behaviours and outcomes, we can even predict failures, but in the end, there is no formula.

If you're looking at younger women for this reason, you will probably have more success with a puppy.

There are advantages to a pet other than living longer:

Maintenance is lower
Cost is lower
Love is unconditional
You get your leg humped every now and then
Can still screw around without having to worry about it

I think that learning the language is an excellent idea.  Some guys go after only English-speaking women, but it seems to me that finding an English-speaking girl is not enough. Since most of us aren't going to go live with our potential spouses for months on end, we need to learn a lot about them in a hurry in order to make a decision. I think that one of the best ways to learn a lot about someone is to develop a good relationship with their family members and friends. You can learn a lot about someone by getting to know their parents and see what kinds of friends they choose.  Even if the lady you find speaks English, you can pick up on so many subtle things if you can understand some Russian.

My only solace in this episode is that I caught on before I could be fitted with the mule suit.

Being happily in lust is a great start but making a cross cultural marriage work is very hard work.
