STUPID is a very loaded word but it's OK

In Russian, isn't it the same word which is translated via dictionary as both "ridiculous" as well as "stupid"? 'Smeshnoi', I think it is.  Of course, in English, "Stupid" is indeed a loaded word. But, I have heard several RW use this word when thye really meant the context of "ridiculous" or even "ridiculously funny".  Just another bump in the road with someone trying to express herself in a second language..  ;D  I remember the first lady I met referred to me as "stupid" many times until I finally got a little ticked off about it and asked her... through the following discussion, we realized that what she really wanted to say is "ridiculous" with my sense of humor. And, she actually meant it as a compliment because she was/is quite ridiculous too and we had tons of laughs together.

But of course, none of us can really understand the mind of a woman, dah?   8)

In this case, Dave, I knew what I was saying and 99% was sure Doll would take it right. Most sensitive forumers would take it seriousely.  :-\

As for Russian language, it is quite funny, flexible and complicated.

Ask your wife to explain the difference between

глупый и глупышка (your lady ment something like that)

First one is translated as stupid, second would sound like silly

I guess it depends on a publisher  :)

In the Talkin' American dictionary published by arrangement with  ITP Global rights group, USA the word stupid means: разговорный: презренный, никчемный, идиотский

Young men....should have experience with locals first.

Is that so?  Well then, I'll just have to cancel those flowers that I sent your way.  ;)   And what do you mean by 'experience'?  Notches on the bed post?  Mending a broken heart?  General dating, kinda' like speed dating?  In what way should we be 'experienced'?

Strangely, as I was washing the cow manure out of my trailer today, I thought of this thread.  And then immediately I thought "Who cares?!"  If an old guy and a young girl want to hook up, then so what?  It's their lives; they can live as they please, regardless of a higher ethical and moral standard that others may have.  Remember when Anna Nicole married that hundred-year-old billionaire?  So what?  Who cared?  Not me.

Some women from Canada will even marry their young gentleman and then set about sponsoring them to have them join them in Canada.

Well, now that's stupid!    :D   Why would you want to marry a gigolo if you can just send him home in the morning and call him back any time you want and don't have to wash his socks and make him breakfast every day?    :D

The phenomenon of international dating is not limited only to men. Though it is not as well advertised, there are women from Canada and Europe (I know less about the United States) who will go to tropical countries for "romance." Women who cannot get hot young men at home, will sometimes travel to the Caribbean or certain African countries for attention. Of course, in exchange, they will give various monetary gifts to the young men who will give them the "romance" they need. Some women from Canada will even marry their young gentleman and then set about sponsoring them to have them join them in Canada.

I haven't heard much about Canadian women marrying much younger studs.  But I have read a fair amount about female sex tourists.  It was sort of "pioneered" by women from Quebec long ago, and their goal definitely was not marriage, as Ooooops points out.

I also want to answer that gentleman who kindly send me a PM, supposing that I don't understand who is involved in the FSU searching.

I decided not to answer you privately as I can be furious at times and can't predict the effect of
my message - will you kill me, yourself or your wife. Afterall I am not responsible that you didn't read my signature  :D

Of course I do not bother of some individuals, it is obvious you didn't understand the idea of the discussion started by me. I am speaking of a general tendency. Why do you think I want to put myself with a overweight, unattractive, inactive, post andropausal 54 year old grandfather?  :zappedhim:

RussianWind

Since I don't know you I clearly underestimated and misunderstood you. You must have had extensive face time and relationships with Western men, and traveled quite often to the west to be so confident in your insight. I won't make the same mistake again.

Me I'm a much slower learner. It took me about 10 trips and a couple of relationships to even begin to see through all the BS and begin to understand what was motivating women from your side of the planet to be involved in this and I wouldn't even begin to say I completely understand them or their motivations.

Please don't be offended but I can't imagine that even at your most "furious" you could get anymore of a reaction from me than to click the ignore button. So, please you don't have to worry about your physical safety and as for the wife and myself we'll be just fine so don't worry.

I wish you the best in your search and hope you find the person who is right for you.

I haven't heard much about Canadian women marrying much younger studs.

Last year, there was an op-ed piece in The Globe and Mail last year written by an immigration lawyer last year lamenting the "discrimination" that his women clients faced. The lawyer decried the fact that men could marry a much younger woman and somehow sponsor her, while women seeking to sponsor their younger husbands in his opinion faced the biases of immigration officers who were more likely to reject such applications.

If you go to Canadian immigration forums, you will notice that many or most of the people asking questions about sponsoring spouses are women  ;)

Also, I do know of one case where it happened. A woman that I knew, went to the Carribbean, fell in love, divorced her husband, got pregnant with her new lover, married him and was trying very hard to sponsor him and bring him to Canada  So, it does happen more often than is reported. True, the proportion of women seeking to marry their overseas lovers may be smaller than men. Women don't have to try as hard to justify it as they can simply say that they need a bit of "romance" in their lives and it will be more acceptable than an older man going overseas and saying the same thing  ;)

By the way, British women are also well known for their sex tourism as well, but they seem to prefer going to Kenya: http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/2007/11/27/new_kenyan_sex_tourism/.

Never heard it expressed that way.  The similar expression in America:  Why buy the cow when the milk is free.

It is real easy for a man with some jingle in his pocket and plenty of time on his hands (e. g., a retired gentleman = old goat) to find a RW girlfriend and travel with her every couple months.   And when she inevitably pushes marriage, he moves on and finds another RW.   It is less expensive than marriage.

Some of us want more than "milk" and "meat" and that is why we married.

I read about the Kenya tourism.  British women also go to the Caribbean.  But in almost everything I've read, the women have no interest in marrying the men.  There is a phenomenom of UK women marrying much younger Turks.

I once sponsored my husband.  But, he is older than I am.  I've known 6 or 7 women who sponsored husbands (mostly Americans), but in each case, the husband was older than the wife, and the couples were in their twenties or thirties.

I don't think it is the phenomenom it is among men because women aren't interested in having a much younger man around 24/7.  Ooooops' joke contained a lot of truth.

I'd guess that plenty of older men come to this realization once their sweet young fiancees arrive and they realize it's not all a bed of roses. Living 24/7 with someone who has a much higher energy level and a thirst to meet new people and see new things, which most of us felt during our 20s but fades with time, isn't easy and can quickly breed discontent.

I was thinking over the weekend (it rained all day here on Fri. and Sat.) that one of the reasons my wife and I have been happy in our first three years of marriage is simply that we can spend a weekend locked in our condo without getting on each other's nerves.

It is not as common, but it does happen. I will give you another case. An acquaintance I have is a very attractive young man from Africa. He married a Canadian woman. From what I have heard from his other male African friends, she is not very attractive and he allegedly married her to resolve his immigration challenges.

Besides, men do not have the monopoly of losing their heads, falling in love, and living in fantasy worlds

I heard that the female to male ratio in St. Johns was something like 4-1.. Which of course could be skewed in a variety of ways, but hey, if true, that'd be a decent travel destination for those looking at the odds!  ;D  I did correspond with one lady from FSU who lives there.  Who knows? it could secretly be Little Little Russia! heh
