Do ladies dislike shorter men?

I've talked to a lot of women and it seems most them, of all backgrounds, don't really like men that are shorter than them. Is this true with RW's?

I'm six feet tall (1.82 meters) so I've never really thought about it.

I saw an interesting bit about 7 or 8 years ago. 

5 men.  Roughly in height ---
5'4"
5'6"
5'9"
6'0"
6'4"

I would say fairly similar in looks, but I am not a good judge. 
Behind a one way mirror, they brought in different groups of single ladies. 
They completely fabricated the men's backgrounds (family, work, financial status, etc.). 

The women almost universally chose the tallest two men -- regardless of the height of the women.   
In fact, even when they made the shortest gentleman a multi-millionaire venture capitalist, the women chose the 6'4" gentleman -- who they were told was an unemployed construction worker.

FSU ladies are more accepting to shorter men than their Western sisters. I've seen it and I've communicated with a lot of women taller than I. One want's me to visit her now. Maybe I talk big or maybe it's my construction worker angle that attracts them.

It's such an individual thing I know at least one woman who likes short men I prefer men who are taller than me. But you know sometimes there are exclusions - when a rather short man looks very handsome and sexy, and besides short men are usually clever But "the chemistry" can be felt only in face to face conversation.

Spit on a 500 EUR note and plaster it to your forehead.  It will make for a couple inches.

A convention bar buddy did that one time.. waddled up to the bar, tried to flirt with the female bartender but it didn't work out as he is a quite obnoxious chap.  He pasted a Franklin note on his forehead and asked her "Do you like me any better now?" - She smiled and the rest of the bar roared.  I think she ended up with a good tip night.

Brian - to answer your question - try to hug a girl/woman who is 6'8" and in good shape (not slim, not obese), then a gal who is 5'2" and about 110lb, and then - maybe third one who is 5'6" and 130lb. Then use introspection to see whether you felt differently when hugging these three women and what were your feelings.

It was true for my wife. Fortunately, I am 6 feet as well, and still taller than her even when she is wearing heels

I think that most of the women really prefer taller men, as we find them more attractive. But, there are exceptions everywhere For example, i know one couple, they really look interesting together, even though, a husband is 7 cm (minimum) shorter than his wife. First, when i met them, i was little bit surprised, but then i saw how much they love each other and how good they look together. Now i see nothing wrong or weird about that and i think it doesn't matter at all. If two people are in love and feel comfortable, that's great, why not?!

i would say many women , "prefer" a taller man..
and certainly most would answer that way if asked in some profile questionnaire,,
tall ,dark ,and handsome-  is a common phrase for a reason?

just like  man might put a preference to  blonde  on a questionnaire or survey?

it's  a standard *pat* answer, that can be set in stone,or just random.

for whatever reason,,all my long term relationships have been with women 5'9" or 5'10"
though it's not a preference of my own..

a funny anecdote,,
years ago, a very nice(and very tall)RW from St Pete was visiting mutual friends here in Chicago..
 they introduced us,,and it was a bit amusing as she was about 185cm and then add the requisite 10cm  heels

After awhile we were joking around about it,
and she said it din't bother her ,if it dint bother me,
after all nicole kidman was quite a bit taller than tom cruise(who were an *item* at that time)

she (jokingly)said that women were sometimes concerned with a mans height,
but it was more about  how tall he was when laying down..not standing on his feet.

And there's the crux of the matter. When I hug a 5'6 to 5'8ish woman there is a "fit" and it just feel right...

i would agree JR,,

but it's interesting that in many surveys women even in the 5'2 to 5'4 range themselves,
prefer a man 6'

there's been some studies linking the preference, to a genetic predisposition for taller off spring ?
(shorter the woman , the more she might be subconsciously attracted to taller than average  man)

i'm too lazy today to go find them,,
plus most any study,has ten other studies refuting it?

Mila sums it up nicely.  I think it is a pretty universal preference.

However, we should be careful to distinguish between 'taller' as in the man's actual height compared to the average man and 'taller' as in greater than the individual woman's height.

So ladies, in your responses, please comment on both meanings.

And also note that it is perfectly acceptable for the woman to desire a 'taller' man (using either definition), but it is disgusting if the man wants a slender woman!!  :-))

 I have a 20 year old daughter who is 5'10" and she intentionaly wears 2 inch high heels and refuses to take seriously men who are under 6 feet. My 23 year old daughter is 5'9" and and has dated men her own height. But am sure she would not consider a man shorter. I am 6'2" and have noticed women do like my height, taller women that is. I believe most women want a man that is at least as tall as her or taller.

I can tell you many CEO's of Fortune 500 companies tend to be taller than 6 feet.  USA Presidents tend to be tall too. When it comes to politics in government or big companies size does matter.  I think this carries over to women as well.  I have always been tall and I will say I get any job I interview for and never had an issue with the ladies.  Just beat out 70 people who interviewed for the same vice president job in person as me.  Going warm climate, no more travel, wife happy. Yes being tall - it has made me arrogant.

I prefer men my exact height or no more than an inch taller. Shorter than me doesn't work either. Though I would probably go for a bit shorter than myself than much taller.

On the topic. In fact I wonder why this forum gives such a lot of attention to the age but almost doesn't mention such thing as male height. Age changes, height does not. The first and foremost thing that we notice on any person is height. Then comes approximate age, manners and everything else.

 From what I see on women, height might be a more issue to consider than age. Yes women prefer tall men, I'd say 185 - 195 cm would be a sought after male figure. Proportions matter of course. My late Granny used to tell me that she chose my Granddad mostly because of his height (about 183-185 cm). He was a really bad egg and had abused her and kids in various ways. But Granny told, he is tall - and basta. She wanted a tall man, that was it. My favorite Auntie has a husband of about the same height as herself, an extremely caring and attentive man, and she used to complain all the way about his height, that she can never wear heels when going out with him.

Dear guys, I apologize a lot for having to say this, but if you made a topic on it, then answers should be expected.

For an illustration, a shorter man would be as attractive for a woman, as a fatter woman would be attractive for a man.

I would say that it usually has little to do with absolute height and more to do with relative height. I would agree that generally women find men that are taller than them more attractive than those that are shorter but of course, there are always exceptions.

Personally, I've never been that attracted to tall women; I'm 178cm and my wife is 162cm. To her I'm a giant but I'm just average height here in Norway.

I prefer men who are 169-180 cm tall. Certainly, each additional 5 point from 135 on IQ dimension will compensate for each cm up or down from my perfect range on the hight demension. Also tall men with X  shape legs or with "9 months food pregnancy" are a stronger turn off for most women I know than are average looking guys.

Many shorter men - like our dwarf AJ - seem to compensate their height deficiency with extra liveliness and activity, which many women find engaging and captivating, whereas many tall men exhibit a rather laid-back attitude that makes them less noticeable at first.

I know a few shorties who are real lady-killers, so there's hope for you yet, AJ .
