Do ladies dislike shorter men?
« Reply #75 on: September 08, 2010, 06:28:12 PM »
I think it is a case of different strokes for different folks.

There is a girl out there for pretty much every guy, so I would
recommend that you go find her. I think that a majority of women
like taller guys but plenty seem to like shorter guys as well.

Being tall is kind of funny sometimes, people will walk up to me and
ask how tall I am, or tell me about somebody they know being tall
(because surely this is very interesting to me) I have a funny comeback
to pretty much every comment, but usually I just smile and tell them how
tall I am or listen to their story with feigned interest.

As for girls it seems that most, but certainly not all kind of like me.

Bill when I worked in London we had a German guy in the office who was about 6'10" and whenever one of the bulbs in the ceiling blew he would just reach up and unscrew it and screw in a new bulb. Saved time and was easier then calling maintenance and waiting for them to do it.  He was also a pretty decent accountant.  :)

To answer the question, yes, most women prefer taller men. Personally, I'd say it is not a big deal as long as my partner is at least my height, preferably, taller. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to be with someone who is much taller then I am (my height is an average for US women). That would look as ridiculous as the opposite - a tall woman + a short man.

Old thread but I thought I'd add this interesting snippet - I was reading some research done by a large dating community in the US a few weeks ago - turns out the average "profile" adds 2 inches on average (5 centimeters), for both men and women. Take a look: http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/the-biggest-lies-in-online-dating/
My search was going so well, then life intervened... but I'm back!

LOL, that makes me a shorty :) Pesonally I've never had a problem with the ladies, then again I don't chase 6 footers, I like women who are shorter - so when we hug their head snuggles into my cheek... it just feels like a "good fit", I suspect also it helps that I am good looking (not my words, its just what I've been told), and that I have a fat wallet (mainly so I can use it stand on when chatting up women).

Probably due to the vitamin/protein-enriched baby foods they are fed ::). However, I've noticed a higher incidence of allergies, possibly because of a more sheltered life that does not exercise their immune system as ours was, playing in our then little-trafficked streets and getting all sorts of bruises, scratches, etc. in the process :D.

yes i've noticed lol

I'm 172cm, my 16 yo son is 186cm already and still growing.
His mother was 165cm , and neither of our immediate families where tall.

so its either a throw back to some past generation or two,
or the way animals used for market are fed anymore..

I don't recall the postman being tall.. ;D

Food production improvements. It'll be interesting to see if the trend slows or reverses with next year expected to bring the beginnin of a solar maximus cycle.

Food production improvements.  . . .

And yet we are bombarded constantly with the idea that the more pure and natural food of earlier generations was more healthy as compared to the processed and fast food common now.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

It surely must be nutrition rather than evolutionary.  Increased growth trends are observed in young children as well as adults, so maybe baby foods do play a role.  Or the cheaper meats served at school to kids (containing growth hormones).

My guess is increased consumption of dairy products and the attendant calcium needed to build bones.  My friend who has served as the agricultural attache for the Netherlands at several postings reported such a correlation in Japan.

There's also the reality that people are living longer lives than they did just a few generations ago...all of this of course can be directly attributed to all the short men who spent countless days of their lives to find ways to improve the lives of future generations in every way...  :P

Here's a graph showing the average heights of 20-y.o. Italian boys as measured at their army draft medicals:

You may notice a sharp uptrend from the 1970s, i.e. for those born in the 1950s when better and more plentiful food and improved health care became available after WWII.

Did Italy slowly shift the draft to the Northen Italy population?

:D No, those data were country-wide, although we do have regional variations:

Average height (conscripts in year 2000):

Red: => 177 cm
Yellow:  175 cm - 177 cm
Blue:  173 cm - 175 cm
Green: =< 173 cm

I did say "production" improvements, not quality))) Just a few days ago I saw an article which was stating that the school lunch programs were started way back when due to the high number of men who were not accepted into the military during war two because of malnutrition.
Pure and natural food is healthier than most of the food like substances you find at the grocery stores today.
