I'm not trying to turn this into a dick measuring contest, but I wanted to counter gq's comment. I know of successful men in every sense of the word, that are single and not popular with the ladies. The converse unfortunately is more than true, but ubiquitous.

Really?

Jone, when was the last time you were in The Strand??? Or maybe in Florida on spring break?? or Clubs anywhere in the world? Tell me that *sex* is not on minds of men 25/8 !!!  :P

Was at the STANDARD last week.  (Have trouble making these letters go upside down.)  This forum is not a forum for hookups, as I understand things.  It is a forum for relationships between FSU Women and WM with an eye towards marriage.

Even a guy in his thirties, as YB is, is not going to be going to Palm Springs on spring break to find a wife.  Maybe I am dating myself, but I am not so much older than YB.  He spoke of a generational gap.  But I think it more of an educational gap.  I see kids growing up in good families who are the stellar kids of the next generation.  They have similar standards.

While a guy thinks of sex all of the time, the women still are attracted to those who can provide a good lifestyle and a loving home.  Not doggie style.  Although such thoughts would not be off their radar, just not predominant.

I used to run, age is creeping now, but 630 in your 30s is fast. Keep that pace up for a few km. Not many people can. I went to L.A. city for track and cross country but I didn't keep it up after high school. Engineering was just too hard to run in college.

I understand what you mean, but I also see Asian men, who have all these qualities and have their pick of the Asian hotties. Why is it that Asian cultures still respect and appreciate these type of guys?

I swear, it's like we are purposefully working towards the idiocracy, where the dumb jock and the slutty cheerleader populate the United states. That's how the United states slid into 20 some place in education, scores.

In Mexico, an engineer and scientist is respected. In Russia, as well. Here, the pimply faced, weird nerd stereotype dominates.

You can still knock down maybe 15-20 seconds off that time on your own even at your age. If you've run track before, then you should also know the drills. TomT is a runner and he probably can still remember the name of the 4 drills to increase your endurance, timing and how to oxygenate your muscle to keep it churning. I can only remember two of the names.

One of them is 'windsprints' - that's an hour drill on the football field ( or until you pass out). 100 yard sprints. Goal line to goal line. As fast as you can - full bore. 2 minutes rest, 5x each set - 4 sets with stretching and warm-ups.

Another is 'intervals' - 5-6 mile run. During the run, run your usual pace - 3 min; then sprint, 3 min; high knees struts, 3-min; usual pace, 3-min; 3-min sprint, etc....incorporate warm-down jogs (even fast walk) as or when required.

The other two I'm not sure of the names (help me TomT). I think one is called 'Resistance': Best place to do this is along the beach. Running your pace, run along the waterline and zig-zag where the sand gets 'drier' - then back. OR, run with ankle weights, OR, knead-running on the pool on a fast pace. Stairway running. Hillside uphills /downhills, etc....

Last one is Escalation (others call it 'pacing'): 400m track. Start with a walk. Then jog, then run...each time maintaining a pre-set time range. You want to be able to accelerate in a snap then slow to the your normal pace or a comfortable, maintained accelerated pace. It has to be at least 200 meters at a time.

Do all these 4 drill within/in between (substitute a day in and out) your normal weekly routine. The drill must be done where your thighs feel like they're about to burst open every time and you can't stand it anymore. When you reach that point, push it for another 30 seconds at least.

You do this consistently, you'd easily drop 20-30+ seconds off your current pace. FWIW, yes, I have 2 marathons under my belt. SF and LA.

As for the other stuff YB. Just chill about it for now and do what Muzh suggested with an ounce of 'Bruce's' philosophy. You can't get comfortable with a woman, or anyone, unless you first get comfortable with yourself. Quit chasing ghosts and quit blaming others. Own up, man. Learn to accept realities of life and live it with positive attitude. You'll be amaze at what you can do with yourself if you just give it a chance.

As for the matchmaking segment, be careful with that, man. It does no one any good reaching first base if they have no clue how to reach home plate. Learn to play the game.

Spring Break in Palm Springs?!? Dude, that's Stardate Long-past 2-642 when Jean Luc Picard still had hair and Michael Jackson was still black.

They stopped spring break in Palm Springs (from what I understand) when Sonny Bono became mayor, which is roughly 2 years after 'I got you, Babe' with Cher hit the Billbooard chart.

LOL.

Yes, it is a forum of relationships!! But I'll puke if I hear again * going to FSU to find a wife*.
Most have trouble finding a girl at home because of * their * own  issues. A guy once told me, in my earliest part of my journey, to date same 'kind' ( age wise) of women at home as you would in FSU. If you can't date a younger girl at home why try it in another country (with all the other trials it comes with).
YB is young.... he should be having fun and learning about himself.

Back in the late '60s, early '70s our high school coach would drive us to the sugar cane fields at noon and dropped us at a path she had made. About 2 to 3 feet wide and the trail was 3 miles long. She said we had 15 minutes to get to the other side or we had to walk back to school, about 5 miles. GQ, I believe you know sugar cane. The leaves have this finely serrated edges that can cut like a knife. Now, you are running under the intense heat and you're sweating. Then the leaves start nicking at your arms and legs and the sweat gets involved. Ah yes. Torture.

Did I mentioned she was a former Cuban track Olympian?

Then after school she would drive us to the beach for more torture, err.... conditioning running. We wonder why we bothered eating lunch? After all, it was fish food after we were done running.

YB, the problem isn't that the bad boys are getting the poontang. There is plenty for everyone. The problem isn't that you aren't a bad boy or that you don't have a silver tongue and rather plain looking. One glaring problem is your perception mostly of yourself. It is very defeatist and as far as game goes, with that attitude you've lost before you ever make it to the ballpark. There has been some excellent advice for your queries in this thread and you still appear hellbent on ignoring it. Quit comparing yourself to those you think do measure up and those that you think don't measure up.Your possessions and your educational pedigree don't make you an interesting person. Although, they can contribute without you wearing on your sleeve as some free pass and entitlements for what you think they should provide.

GQ brings up a very good point about his old pal. Bruce is perfectly willing to hit bunt singles and even a few walks when the Grand slams are not attainable. Even Bruce the major stud strikes out in the game. He does however keep playing.

Go out there and hit yourself some bunt singles and learn how to progress your game. You eat an elephant one bite at a time. Women will not fall to the ground with their legs in the air because you have some fantastic electronics career and a PHD but, they will if they like you and find you interesting regardless of your appearance.

Take this video for what FP just said. You'd be surprised it applies to all genders.

OMG -

Two Angelinos - both sharp guys.  One doesn't know that the college set is hanging in the Cochella Valley on Spring Break and the other who doesn't know where the Standard is.  What is this world coming to?

LAman, the Standard is "The Standard Hotel" downtown.  It is a great spot to go at 1:00AM if you are out hitting the town.  Especially if you have a RussBabe in tow.  Go to the top floor.  In the summer time, it is more difficult to get into than most clubs are as they plaster videos on the adjoining buildings.

For both of you, if you want to bring it to your woman,  I might recommend the following website:

Really now? You don't say?!? Palm Springs Rocks! YB ought to 'invest' his 50K and get a nice diggs along HWY 111 then. That's what I'm talking 'bout!

I get a free pass with these things these days, you know. I'm a committed man.  8) SmoothOperator occasionally comes down from up north and stays with us for the weekend. I'm a bit out of touch (though I know where STD is) so I feel bad not hitting the town out with him. Maybe I'll get him to hook up with you for some she-bangs one of these days.

LOL. Oh yeah, do I ever. Not as bad as aloe vera but the teeth in those leaves can easily cut through flesh. That's borderline child abuse, Muzh! LOL.

When I ran SF marathon, I was literally a newb. I've ran plenty of 10ks in LA leading up to SF. So what did I do? I wore those running tank tops with mesh on the upper chestline. SF's weather is nothing like LA - especially during the summer.

The route ran around Lake Merced and when I got there, the ocean breeze was blowing cold. The sweat I was drenched with started to dry and consequently, the mesh started to rub against my nipples that had hardened because of the cold air. Holy Batman! Between these and the dried 'salt' off my sweat adding to the mix, let's talk about torture, why don't we...

Edited to add: Muzh, I just now watched the video you posted. Summed up the context of the subject pretty well!! Awesome.

Never stayed at any*Hotels* in LA BUT have an idea about clubbing, nice out in Hermosa. Don't get to downtown very often!!!

If I wanted 'that' nightclub life I would just drive to Vegas, much more there and better selection!!! If I have a Russbabe in tow...... a more quieter place with softer music is ideal!!!  :P

Really, YB, this discussion of what dominates are what the adolescent nerd would say.  You are an over 30 man who seems to be stuck in that mindset, the mold of how adolescents define themselves.  You need to get past that.

they are not saints, but they didn't sleep around either. 1960s  Mexico is not  like 2010 s  western Europe or US.

the guys who  fuck a lot  that I know,  are usually one track mind,  they only pursue sex and are pretty lame.  they have a devil may  care attitude, have crappy jobs  with no money but are very tall and model looking. they think they are sweet talkers,  but they say the stupidest  things and women don't care because they look like Ryan gosling.
I don't think that you have yet met the rights guys to show you.

They keep reinventing the techniques and changing the names. The last that I knew, there were intervals, tempo runs, fatlek, hills, long slow runs, long fast runs (on race day) and recovery runs. One thing remains constant, though: one has to get off his dead ass and move once in a while.

If you have run a 5k at the pace of 6:30-2= a 4:30 mile pace, that would have your 5k time at 13:57, or only about 15 seconds slower than the 2012 Olympic gold medal winner.

The London 5k was really slow. Perhaps the competitors weren't given sufficient time to recover from the qualification runs. (Maybe they were moderated.)

At least they could still compete.  ;D
