Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

In Nazi Germany the population used to intimate that all of the politics from Washington was run by the Jews simply because Henry Morganthau, Jr. was Secretary of Treasury.

Now we have a member of this forum who intimates that the Ukrainian government is being run by the Americans simply because an American born Ukrainian is holding one of the financial posts.

I see a parallel.  The same type of thinking operating in Nazi Germany seems to be seeping into the mentality of Putin's defenders.

First, we hear that the government in Kyiv is run by Fascists.  Now we really know the truth:   It's not just Fascists, but Fascists who are infiltrated by Americans.  (The worst kind!)

Is this attitude indicative of Russian mentality?

Doll, people should be judged based on expertise, experience and results, not where they were born.   Such is the case in both American government and business.    The only positions I know that require birth in America (natural-born citizen) are the President and Vice President.  Even though that is the law and there were some questions about Obama, few really cared whether he may have been born elsewhere, more that he possibly hid the fact.
Gator  , I hope you respect laws, the law of Ukraine says that the minister can only be the Ukrainian citizen.

Also, if an Ukrainian  becomes the US citizen, he or she is denied the Ukrainian citizenship because of the law.
Another foreign minister from Georgia doesn' t understand Ukrainian which is against the law too.

There is no way you know it about Ukrainian politicians  or Jaresko.
No way. Just because you live far away from that country.

Хахаха слава Украине и ее Хероям

What makes you think I know nothing of Ukrainian politicians?  I know how to read.  I listen to various Ukrainian media.  I have relatives throughout Ukraine.  I know many of the diaspora Ukrainians who established many of the frameworks and educational institutions in an independent Ukraine.  If you knew anything of how Ukraine was organized, you would know that most of the framework of Ukraine's government was established by foreigners, all exclusively Western educated.  The first Minister of State for Ukraine post independence was a foreigner.

Previous Ukrainian politicians have been influenced by Moscow to a great degree, because that is where all their KGB files sit.  Most were also in power because of oligarch support.  So, as I stated, a minister who doesn't kowtow to either Moscow or the oligarchs is a net positive for Ukraine.  It is a net positive, rather than a negative.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Please point to that law, as I can't find it.  The Constitution is silent on the citizenship of ministers.

No, it is not against the law to not understand Ukrainian.  Yanukovych's Ukrainian was almost non existent when he was PM, and sucked during his presidency.  Tymoshenko's Ukrainian was weak until a few years ago.  There are plenty of Ukrainian Rada members who speak no Ukrainian.

No, it is not illegal to speak any language other than Ukrainian in the Rada.   Were that the case, numerous politicians would never open their mouths. However, all Ukraine's laws are written in Ukrainian.  The former PM, Avakov, spoke zero Ukrainian.

Here is an example.  This is not Ukrainian, it is a speech in the Rada, and it even occurred after the Banderite fascists took seized power.

As for the link, the Rada makes the laws, they can change them.  BTW, Ms Jaresko has lived in Kyiv for 20 years.  Mr. Abromavicius, proposed as economics minister, also lives in Kyiv, and is married to a Ukrainian national.

BTW, all three foreign ministers were granted Ukrainian citizenship by Poroshenko on December 2.

I see nothing wrong with it.  Ukraine has not had uncompromised politicians.  Ms.  Jaresko is highly accomplished, and, presumably, will not be beholden to any oligarch or foreign government to the East.

She lived in Ukraine for 20 years too

Ladies and gentlemen, congratulations- the new Minister of Finance of Ukraine is a born American. I am not kidding
Hahaha slava ukraine :deadhorse:

Hey Doll, You got a lot of reaction from the regulars on this one!

It is NO coincidence that a US citizen is now deeply involved with the Ukraine finance.  US citizens like Biden's cocaine-addled son have also been appointed.  Clearly Russia doesn't want to see their aggressive rival pulling the strings on their doorstep, so they are doing what they feel they must, and appointments like this further their cause.  It would appear that Ukraine is destined to be lorded over as usual, and the US would like to take on the role of 'lord' (behind the scenes as much as possible).

Oh, but it was okay for Ukraine to have a Prime Minister who was born in Russia, right?
