The difference is that NOW it is being addressed--previously it was promoted.

I am not saying it does not exist now-- but --there is now potential consequences.

It is chalk and cheese compared to what it was-- and no--I am not wearing "pink" glasses.

I'll believe it when projects they get aid for are completed without blowing out in budget and time more than is normal. Yes, large projects do go over time and over budget even in a western environment but in Ukraine they tend to never get completed at all...

Omsk, though we plan to move this year. Probably to Novosibirsk.
Local corruption here is also endemic to an extreme degree. i.e. more than is normal even for other Russian cities.

And how do you get past obstructionist officials who won't allow any work to proceed until certain payments are made?
How do you get past local companies charging inflated prices for work?
Your employees stealing your equipment and materials?

An NGO by itself does not fix these issues.

Think of yourself that you have entered a vortex where nothing make sense and people are talking to you but making no sense.

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's a post up ahead: your next stop: the Twilight Zone!

"Bomb now, Pay later"

There's bombing now and there's 5000 people that paid for it with their lives now, not later. While you're living comfortable, the body count over there is going to add up if nobody has the balls to stop Russia. Sanctions aren't going to cut it. More deaths ahead.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

There is no secret to Russian intent-every repetition of negatives is helping the Russian attempts to destabilise Ukraine.
Another view-

Nikolai Vorobyov Washington.
 Why the Kremlin launched a "peace enforcement" in these days? For many, the January attack on the Russian Donbass was a big surprise. However, this scenario has been predicted.

The following are just some of the reasons for escalating conflict:

 1) Economy of the Russian Federation. The Kremlin is beginning to understand that the economic problems faced by Russia this is not 2008. A record for the last 6 years the fall in oil prices, the sanctions of the West, as a result, the collapse of the ruble, higher prices, reduced tripled Russian exports, reducing foreign exchange reserves of the Russian Federation. For immediate action is necessary to put pressure on social programs, the middle class, to cut payments in education and medicine. The current crisis in Russia - is here to stay. Society of the Russian Federation should immediately divert external enemy in order to slow down the mood of protest in the country;

 2) EC. Yesterday it became known that the sanctions against Russia, no one is going to cancel. Next may follow even greater economic pressure from the West. Financial losses are all, without exception, from simple pensioner in the Tambov region and ending with the owner of the Kremlin. Moreover, according to local experts, in the case of easing sanctions by the EU, the US can turn off Russia from the banking system SWIFT. And it's too much. Putin decided to apply asymmetrical military strike not only Ukraine, but also "show teeth" throughout the West;

3) Minsk agreement. Today, everyone understands that to comply with the agreement in Minsk on September 5 or LC / DNI or the Kremlin is not going to . My source has confirmed that in September, representatives of the DNI / LC - Gubarev Pushilin and Co. could not utter a word without a call from Moscow. It is clear that in this situation, "republic" are not even the subjects of the negotiation process. Putin scabbard new Minsk, new agreements an even more unfavorable conditions for Ukraine. Therefore, "peace enforcement" began earlier than planned;

4) Donetsk airport. The object became a symbol of resistance of Ukrainian military and public slap in the face at the same time personally Putin and his generals. I am sure that steaming in the Russian bath, their foreign vis permanently "pin up" "valiant" generals on the airport, which they can not take for almost 4 months, suffering enormous losses. Russian resentment multiplied by pride - it snaps cocktail that these minutes and bottled in the Donbas.

5) USA . The first deliveries of military aid have been sent to the Ukrainian Army in the area ATO. Next to Russian will be worse because now the Republicans control Congress, and the Committee on armament in the Senate headed by the "main Kremlin hater in America," Senator McCain. In order not to run into the American "Javelin" tomorrow, the Kremlin decided to attack today. In the case of tightening, loss of Russian separatists and will be even more;

6) Financial assistance to Ukraine. Support for the IMF, the World Bank, the United States may come as early as mid-March (to avoid default Ukraine needs at least $ 40-50 billion.
This year and next). The main objective of the Kremlin today - to bring down the economy of Ukraine as possible to receive funding from the West. Thus, to raise the social unrest in the country.
That's all. I will only add that under Putin seriously beginning to stagger chair and so he decided to shatter the most adjacent building. Ukraine is now, more than ever, need maximum stability, patience and solidarity. By analogy with the Maidan, now there are events on 18-19 February 2014.
Bottom line, we all know.

Listen Richard,

Ukrainians knew what it would take to get their country. Many are willing to give their lives for a better future.

Just like here some two hundred and fifty years ago.

You, Richard, are enjoying the sacrifices of many.

Carlos, are those raspberries or red currants? I LOVE raspberries, I had my first taste when a 6 y.o. at the hospital after they removed my tonsils, and my liquid diet included raspberry ice cream - thoughtfully provided by my parents, not the staff ;).

I had pureed raspberries on Mendy's salmon recipe, recently.  They were very tasty, when mixed with cream and a little cinnamon.  All went on top of the sliced salmon and apple slices.

When you write stupidity like this, you show your ridiculous hand....so now ANY NEGATIVES are not allowed to be written because it 'destabilizes Ukraine'....what a piece of work you are...if given the chance you'd delight in sending others to go fight telling them absurd BS things like "390 Russians were just killed in battle while only 3 Ukrainians were, you will be fine!"  ...Whatever lie it takes to get people to die for your cause!  Why exactly aren't you there fighting, like a good 'General' should be?

Your ongoing abuse is only exceeded by your dishonesty as you attempt ( AGAIN) to attribute something I never said  -- so show where I ever said anything like this-your inane alleged quote " "390 Russians were just killed in battle while only 3 Ukrainians were, you will be fine!"
Totally dishonest lie-- why do mods allow this? Plus his persistent trolling.

In case you missed it--this is FT solution to solve the Ukrainian invasion-

Do you still want to deny you wasted miles of forum space telling us all that Russia would be happy with Crimea and if nothing was done that would be as far as invasion went?

You are a complete dishonest disgrace...practically every article you have yahoo - linked is a fluff - piece...often devoid of realities that others have expressed here. 99% of what others share which is not rah-rah'ing every aspect of Ukraine is met with scorn.  Yeah you would send soldiers into battle with rosy misinformation and get their rear ends shot off while you cheer/ramble on in your little reclining chair.

How do you provide effective economic aid to a country with such an endemic corruption problem?

Exactly.  This is why the west is so reluctant to help Ukraine.  The clock is ticking.

Oh my !!  Let's hope this situation can be rectified.

Ukrainians knew what it would take to get their country. Many are willing to give their lives for a better future.

Back in 94 America, under Clinton, asked Ukraine to give up their nukes in exchange for security assurances. Under Obama, we sent money to Ukraine to promote democracy and encouraged them to change. I bet you voted for those two and like those two, you'd rather shy away from responsibility when the going gets tough. Who's going to respect America when we get people into dangerous situations without backing them up? Yeah! Come try democracy, it's great! But make sure to read the small print that says "If America has to face guns, the contract is null and void."

The best thing for Obama to do is get on tv and tell Americans of our obligations and that we will back Ukraine up with serious firepower. That will send chills down Putin's spine just as when Reagan said "Tear down this wall."

Just like here some two hundred and fifty years ago.

The big difference between then and now is France promoted Americans to fight for freedom to get out from under the British Empire and France actually helped us out. You think Americans fought with pitchforks?

Carlos, it is lazy to categorize Billy's suggestions as bomb now and pay later especially when you have no suggestions of your own.

FT if you don't like Jay's facts, you are free to contest them if you can.

Decie, aid is often wasted, but we aren't even trying and it is a poor excuse for not trying to help the good people.

It is insensitive to use a person's first name on this forum without the user's express permission.  I am fairly confident that Muzh has not given you such permission.

Even if the name was in the public domain from some other person, maintaining a username that is not a given name typically demonstrates a wish for some general anonymity.   We recently had a forum participant on here who demanded to know a user's personal information for malicious purposes.  Your careless use of someone's name here could be tragic in the wrong circumstances.
