:D What?? Are there several ways to cook semmolina?? I know only one- boil a milk, then gradually pour semmolina constantly stirring for there would not be lumps there until it will be ready. Then add salt and sugar (and may be some jam if you want) and eat it till it's not cold yet

proportion is something like 1 glass of milk/1 table spoon of semmolina (if I remeber correctly as my child now is too big for I'd cook semmolina:D)

Hi Guys:  Stay away from the Russian caviar !  The sturgeon population is only half that of years ago due to the heavy river pollution especially heavy metals. If you like mercury poisoning, then eat the caviar !

Kholodets......

I had something similar, except with sturgeon fish floating in the middle, not beef.

Sorry girls, it took very big effort to keep from :puke: at the table! It is the ONLY Russian food I truly didn't like.

My wife and her family use mayonaise made with olive oil and I really prefer it to mayo available here.

One of the things that has become evident to me during my travels, is that our, that is, "American", definition of what is edible is really quite narrow. When I think of beef, I'm pretty much thinking steak or roast. In other cultures they eat everything, in some form or another. Very little of the animal goes to waste.

Today I introduced an American friend to sliced pig's ears and trotters. He was revolted by the concept. He also had problems with tongue, in any form. But then this is a guy who can not stomach eggs with a brown shell! Still I owe him props for his provision of Twinkies; but he forgot the EZ CHeese on his last food shipment!

I can handle most everything, tongue is good, sweetbreads are wonderful, liver is delicious, cabaza meat makes great tacquitoes, but you will run me off with the mention of kidneys.  I know you have to boil the piss out of 'em, but I could never eat them.

Because I do not like cooked vegies very well I am not a big fan of Russian food and I think it tastes bland. I really have it in my mind that if I do eventually an RW that she will spend so weeks learing how to cook American, French, or something else. Learn how to broil not boil chicken and meat. I am looking forward to teaching her how to cook what I know how to cook.

I do eat mashed potatoes and baked potatoes but that is about it for the vegies. I eat a lot of raw vegies, however. Oh, eggplant and spinich cooked is not so bad either.

I have no problem with animal cows it is the human female cows that I try to avoid. I am sure there are a lot of people who do not like beets, squash, cabbage, cooked carrots, peas, turnips, brocoli, and so forth. Most of those seem to find their way into borsht. With regard to the cows...yes, give me a tbone and a glass of milk and I can be happy.
