Trip Report: The Dominican Republic

THE GIRL From RUSSIA

It all started at my computer.  I was surfing, when one of those
annoying ads popped up.

But this one caught my attention.  It was the face of a beautiful
girl, and it asked me to rate her, on a scale of 1-10.

I hesitated, then clicked.  That single click was to lead me into the
world of Russian girls and MOBs.

Sometimes I wish I had never made that faithful click.  But I did,
and this is my story...

Before that night, I had never thought about FSU women.

In fact, I was just 3 months into divorce proceedings, and had not
thought of women much at all for 25 years.

But a few clicks later, I was at the site of Anastasia, in Bangor Maine.

The sexy pics of Russian women turned me on, and I took my first step
into darkness.

A week later, I wrote the first girl.  The agency was horrible, and I
did not get a response for a week.  By then I had written 5 more girls.

After playing the Anastasia game for about a month, I was tired of
them and found a better source, Elena's Models.

There I could buy the girls' information and communicate with them
directly.  I bought three addresses, and things started to heat up.

The attractive blond, who was my first choice, wrote back and said
she wanted to "marry me."  I was shocked!  Especially when she said
she would need $1000 a month.

Send it, and she promised to stop searching for her "soul-mate" and
belong only to me.

I did not know about RWD or RWG then.  I did not know about scams.
But you don't have to know about them to smell one.  I stopped
writing the lovely blond.

In addition to buying a few names from Elena's Models, I also paid
them to post my profile in various places, like gyms and newspapers.

The next week, while on a business trip, I got my first letter
initiated from a girl.  She sounded very interesting.  Her letter seemed friendly
and honest and upfront.

I wrote her back to say I could not write at the time, but was
interested in her and would write later.

My search was about to hit a one year roadblock...

After a few letters, the girl (I'll call her Irina) asked me to call her.

It was my first time to dial that infamous 011 7 ...

I was totally taken by Ira's sexy Russian accent.  Her English was perfect (actually better than mine), because she was university trained as an interpeter.

We talked for an hour, and my heart was pounding as if I were running the 5 K.
She was 23 and I was 45.  I told her that I was much to old for her.  She told me about her life and how she had mostly been on her own since she was 15.

I agreed to continue our discussion, even though the age difference of 22 years seemed absurd.

She promised to email me her picture, and I promised the same.  But how do you get a picture into a computer, I wondered?

When her picture came, I was NOT disappointed.  She had the prettiest blue eyes, a very light blue, and lovely blond hair.

For the next month, I wrote Ira every day and talked with her on the phone.  I mailed her a box with candy and gifts.

She was a very serious girl, and was definitely looking for a serious man.  I was serious, and stopped writing all other girls.

I think Ira must have majored in psychology.  In letter after letter, she asked me "what would you do if..." questions.

She also fed me some profiling questions right out of a Psy book.  She was trying to determine if I were the kind of man who would cheat on her, or be faithful to her.

We both agreed.  We needed to meet, in person.  Our letters and phone calls seemed to indicate we were quite compatable.

I had a window of time for vacation right away.  But winter was coming to Russia, and we both agreed a warmer place would be better.

She told me the sad story that Russian girls could not come to the US, and in fact, most countries.  I had been to the Dominican Republic, and suggested it.

I checked, and I could fly her to Cuba and then to the DR.   We set a date 10 days in the future, and I started planning the trip.

My instincts told me not to send her money for the ticket, even though I trusted her.  So I bought the ticket and sent it to her via FedEx.

Soon, I would meet Ira.  I couldn't wait  :)

Anyone else getting that odor?

Sohkay, I was quite ignorant at the time.  I did not know about scams. I did not know about RWD.  I was on my own.

Fortunately, I was an experienced traveler, and could take care of myself.

Looking back, we were both pretty bold to meet in such a manner.  Her perhaps more than me.

I decided that we would begin our trip in Santo Domingo, the capital of the DR.

I booked us into a resort just down the shore from the airport that I was familiar with.

I asked Ira if she was ok staying with me.

She was concerned.  But we were just going to have 2 weeks together, and I wanted to be with her as much as possible.

The suite had a couch and a bedroom, and I made it clear to her I would take the couch.

She told me in plain simple English, and I'll always remember her words-- "the trip will be great, but I won't fuck you for this."

Maybe you think I was moving too fast.

Maybe you think I should have visited Ira in her hometown first.

Maybe you think that I should have been writing a dozen girls and going to Moscow to meet them, instead of risking it all with one girl.

Knowing now what I know, I WAS going against conventional wisdom.  I would not recommend to a newbie that he do what I did.

However, there is another way to look at it.

I had known the girl two months.  We had exchanged long emails every day.  Her English was perfect and we had no language communication gaps.  We had chatted with ICQ in real time daily.

We had talked on the phone for about an hour a day, seven days a week.  Thank goodness for phone cards!

In reality, I did not know this girl in real life.  But I wanted to.

And in reality, I did know her pretty well.  Much better than I knew the typical girls I might date in the US on a first date.

Nope.

I have a near-perfect memory for text, particularly memorable or distinctive phrases, so I'm pretty sure I already know which OMG "Anonymous" is.  ;)

The day dawned.  Ira had already been flying for hours before I took a connecting flight into Miami.  A few short hours later, I was landing in Santo Domingo, 3 hour before her connecting flight from Cuba would arrive.

I deplaned, but stayed inside security, because I wanted to be there for her as she landed and got off her plane.

That was the longest wait of my life.

As the passengers got off her flight, I watched for the blond in the blue dress she told me she would be wearing.

It seemed like 500 people got off and 30 minutes passed!

Suddenly, I heard a tiny voice call my name!  It was Ira , and she was 24 inches away :)

Somehow I had missed her. Likely because she was wearing a tan sweater over her blue dress.

I kissed her cheek, and she smiled at me.

We chatted as we completed her immigration documents.

It seemed to me like I had known her for a long time.  She seemed like an old friend

Yikes! Please don't "out" me, Boar!

If you do, it'll be a knife to my stomach from a very jealous Russian girl!

Hey, I'm only doing this TR as a public service :-)

I don't think we have one to the DR and the other destinations the next year will reveal.

I was hoping no one had the skills of David Kirkpatrick.  Kirkpatrick is the guy who outed Klein as the author of Primary Colors, using the very literary elements you mention.  His book "Author Unknown" is an interesting read.

Wouldn't dream of it.  Besides . . . I could always be wrong.  ;D

It's happened before.

Though I may be mistaken about that, too.   ;)

Damn it... I want to stay online and read this now but I have to proof a tender!

When does the Audio Book come out???

At least then I could listen to it in the background while I was critiquing application architecture diagrams (and trying to make it look like I knew what I was doing in front of the staff).

 ;D

Anonymous,

You did a public disservice to the state of Michigan
when you misspelled it in your profile. Would it be wrong
to assume your wife's visiting the FSU while you author
this saga?

Good Lord.

I have done my sharing of 'putting it out there', but this is more deja vu for me than you can imagine from earlier still. Only it was  Bulgaria not the Dominican Republic.

Interesting read, even with the preview.  Keep it up please.

I travel to DR in one month and I wonder if your report will give me palpitations.

Anonymous one,

I agree with Texas Boar. Your writing style is too close to a certain member's here. I'd hate to read in the news that you or an innocent member of RWD became John Wayne Bobbitt #2. Change your style a little. Just trying to help.

Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

For what it is worth I haven't the faintest idea of your identity, or anyone else's!!

Probably because I am so interested in how your story is unfolding.

Please post longer chapters:)

I think there is going to be a lot of "off topic" as this thread progresses.

It's such a good story that's unfolding, why don't we all just agree to pretend not to notice?  And not speculate out loud!  ;D
