Hello everybody! My name is Mark........
« on: December 25, 2007, 03:25:09 PM »
I have recently meet a Russian girl on the internet, she is beautiful and we are hitting it off. I was just wanting to get some feedback on what some of you more experienced guys and girls though of my situation
I posted a profile on Lavalife a dating site, not looking for a Russian girl in particular but just to see what was out there and in the first week I received four messages from FSU girls. I choose one that I thought was nice, we went through all the usual stuff. She wanted to know more about Australia, my job, my family, wether I was the lonely man etc. She has replied to all my emails and sent four photos of herself. I have sent her about seven emails and now she is saying that she would like to visit me in Australia she has not asked for any money (YET) and seems genuine to me.
She is from Kosmodemyansk in central Russia on the river Volga.
I was wondering if any of you have had or heard of similar experiences meeting girls away from the agencies.
My next move is to get her phone number and give her a call.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Some of your fellow countrymen here (BTW, welcome to RWD ;)) may advise you on how easy it may be for a FSUW to just hop on a plane and come visiting ::). What reason(s) did she give for her urgency, and 7 emails over what period ? A couple of weeks ?

She didn't give any reasons for her urgency, she just said she will be having some holidays and wondered what I thought about her visiting me.
My emails have been sent over about two weeks.
She dose not have a computer at home and goes to cafe to check emails. She also said that it is better to meet once than send millions of letters
I'm sorry SANDRO43 but I am new to this and am a bit slow on the abbreviations. Whats BTW..

BTW means "By the way"

I am by no means an expert and have not been through what most men here have. However what I do know from talking to Russian Women and visiting is most do not have alot of money much less credit cards to pay for a site such as LavaLife and to do so with not even having a computer at home. The cost of Lavalife and internet cafe fees she is spending just to communicate with you is well out of the norm. Not saying it is impossible but just unusual.

And as stated it is not easy for Russian Women to get visas to go to any 1st world country. You way want to check out of curiosity what the procedure is for your country. From my own fiance and her friends it is also not normal to talk of such a visit with just a few letters. Ladies usually want the man to visit them first even if they had ability to travel.

Proceed with caution.

Others here can give better advice as to how to proceed to test the lady to verify if she is real without hurting feelings.

Marcamous, as Ravens9273 pointed out, it's very unusual behaviour for a normal FSUW ::). Proceed as you will, but DON'T lay out any money on this, it smells of scam to high heaven, particularly after Turboguy's remark on her photo :o. You should expect a request for visa/travel money pretty soon.

BTW ;), if you're at a loss for acronyms/abbreviations used here, you may resort to the RWD Glossary in the vertical menu at left. There's an entry for Fat Yuri, too, in case you may wonder ;D.

The photo you posted is a Russian actress named Tatiana Radvina or something close to that.   Here are a few more photos of her.

Mark, if you get emails at Lavalife from people who say they are in Russia, it would be useful to ask how did they get on that site. Unfortunately, major international dating sites likw match.com and lavalife are banned even to be visited from IP addresses located in Russia. A few weeks ago, I tried my best to get myself on them but failed  :(

Ok, Mark you have found a scammer on your first try, so you aren't a virgin anymore.

First drop the girl like a wet paper bag of rotted fish guts.

Second I would highly recommend spending several hours reading at this site.

Read, read then read some more. Start with the 10 Commandments and the RWD FAQs.
Read a lot of the trip reports. Then read some part of every section.

As you read various things you will develop many questions. Come back to this thread and post them.
Don't worry your not supposed to understand everything on your first day.

Udachi! (Good luck),

Hi Marc,

Welcome and good that you found this place in time. First of all the 'Russian Women have no money' is kind of a myth. They may not have money on a trip, but more and more of the young women out there do have a mobile phone, computer and internet at home.
About her visiting you, that is the highly unlikely part. Apart from that she will not get visa easily, unless she can prove to pay for the trip herself, it follows the pattern of a classical visa and tickets scam.
Do some search on Google on her name and sentences from her letters. Good chance that you will find both.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Being contacted on the internet by a scammer pretending to be a Russian woman is often the best thing that can happen to a guy.   Often it creates curiousity and desire in a guy who never thought about Russian women and starts them on a patch that turns out to be the best thing they ever did.

Spend some time here and read what it is all about.   RW can be as wonderful as you thought you fake one was.

Mark, Good that you found this forum.  You will find a wealth of info here to help you many savy members who can give you good info.  Scammers and their pic collections do abound but with good info you can steer clear of them.  Good luck

this girl Irina's motives

 :cluebat:

it can easily not be a girl at all.

it is a photo of a russian  actress, as mentioned above.

your next photo is again the same  russian actress.

I realize you are new at this,

but you are not corresponding with some  attractive woman interested in meeting you .
, you are emaling some person ,of unknown gender ,
that is trying to scam you.

it is not unusual thing to happen, and
it is a scam, and there is no doubt about it.

real RW ,interested in a foriegn husband,
do not send out photos of some fairly well known actress.
and you are not corresponding with this actress.

the "motive"  is simple:
get you invested in a virtual relationship... up to the point she is flying to see you.,
then has some sort of *problem* and just needs you to send a bit of money to get past it..and still desparately wants to see you..

after you WU *cough* her ,  you will never hear from this person again.

and quite likely it is a man,not some girl
(although its  possible, would it matter if her whole motive is to steal from you?)

you could call her,
and should call any RW  that you start correspondence with fairly quickly..

but in this case,
it isnt a "real" person anyway so dont waste your time!!!!
(if a "real" womam answered the phone , it still wouldnt mean she wasnt out to scam you ;) )

there are plenty of nice RW looking for a husband, that would consider one from another country.
if you are interested also, use your time to pursuie them,

and stop thinking about this photo or emails from a person trying to steal from you..

good Luck!

.

I saw a Canadian actress' (  Elisha Cuthbert ) photo on one dating site featuring RW. I had to laugh.  Who would know? other than another Canadian.   ROFLMAO   She was in a film, out in the last few years, called "The Girl Next Door" I believe. She is the daughter of hockey commentator Chris(?) Cuthbert.  Good Canadian trivia question.

Mark, this is a SCAM!

She is a well known Russian actress.  She is currently starring in the following television series:

You can find her picture in the middle of the third row on the bottom of this site: http://www.channelonerussia.com/anonce/pkvs/7227/?tz=46

In the US, you can watch her television series twice a day on Channel One Russia.

Take care,

OK, this person contacted me last night and gave me the sob story about not being able to afford the 1874 Euro that it would cost to come to Australia and asked me to send it to an address in Russia.
I am not prepared to do this and now believe that this was a scammer. All of your replies have helped in cementing this belief.
Thankyou RWD it has been a very interesting experience for me and I have found a world that I did not know existed.
I have asked this person to stop contacting me and will now be deleting all emails from Russians in Russia on Lavalife after Lily's interesting point.
Once again thankyou RWD..............

Mark: The "She" in this one doesn't exist. You (and a few thousand others) have been dealing with "Boris and brothers inc".

You've gotten off this one light. Many guys see this caper as a poker machine, that is, pop a coin in the slot, press the button and out jumps your dream. Doesn't happen. Stick around here, read the FAQ section first and if you are seriously interested in this caper, RWD is the best place I know of to help figure out how to kick a goal. It's a long slow process but it can be done.

Have a read of the visa section here www.australianembassy.ru and that will give you some idea of the visa nuances involved. There is also a section there somewhere warning of the possible scams. You'd do well to find it and read it.

Don't be hasty here since many legit Russian gals who work for international companies are able to access these websites from work via a European proxy server.  When I worked at IBM I had a profile on Lovehappens.com and accessed it no problem.  Oh yes, and I was sometimes the first to contact men.
