Actually I had taken a step back and was looking at the big picture.

John is not a participant in this discussion and is thus not taking criticism.   Personally, I see nothing wrong with John and can't agree with those those belittled him.

Critique by proxy maybe.. ?

For this venue, maybe John should have been the cameraman instead.

We all get flack by association with MOB, whether via agency/terp/inet is used or not so what the heck.. either one gets used to it or crumbles.

As an afterthought, the flic would have been much more effective if interaction between guide and client would have been brought to light..

msmoby_ru , I agree to pay you a double if you drop this "Irish" subject.
Want $30? Even though you are a loser
 :cluebat:

Dear Doll
I should accept the offer of $30, as it would be the hardest I worked for ..

a) he IS American...  Score one point to you
b) he was apparently born there Score another point to you

Me the loser ?!

A quick recap..

1/ John claimed he was irish on the video ( twice)
2/ it is now confirmed he *has* Irish / as well as US citizenship
3/ He is of Irish parentage
4/ He has spent most of his life in Ireland
5) He talks like an Irishman - not an American

So here's $15 back .. ;)

contra party risk is where you enter into an agreement and where the other side doesnt live up to his/her part of the agreement.  Bets made on this site.... well I just wouldn't be holding your breath waiting for that initial 10 bucks :D

1/ Please explain how some folk I know, who are Europeans working in the USA,  can bring in their wives..( non EU, and from FSU countries)

If they apply for work visa as a family - that's how.

I hope ISCIS is credible source of information for you?   ;)

Who is Eligible

U.S. citizens who will be getting married to a foreign national in the United States may petition for a fiancé(e) classification (K-1) for their fiancé(e). You and your fiancé(e) must be free to marry. This means that both of you are unmarried, or that any previous marriages have ended through divorce, annulment or death. You must also have met with your fiancé(e) in person within the last two years before filing for the fiancé(e) visa. This requirement can be waived only if meeting your fiancé(e) in person would violate long-established customs, or if meeting your fiancé(e) would create extreme hardship for you. You and your fiancé(e) must marry within 90 days of your fiancé(e) entering the United States.

You may also apply to bring your fiancé(e)'s unmarried children, who are under age 21, to the United States.

Pretty bad maths, by my calculation you are $15 down at this stage if you pay up your offered $30 and ms gives you the promised $15 back. Not sure who is being "Irish" here, but one thing is certain, neither of you are Scot. Where is B/F's husband, perhaps he can explain the maths. ;)

This has to be the most unproductive bullshcitathon of recent times. Nobody can decide if John punter is an American Irishman or an Irish American. IMO, it matters little because if you travel to any part of the FSU where other western men frequent and you don't see plenty more just like him, then you are the subject of the photo below............

As a linguist, I can share that becoming fluent in a foreign language such as Russian is a very complex task--one that is out of the reach of most language learners.   I personally have studied Russian for years, and have only a minimum competency.  So no, I can't agree that "learning some Russian language" separates "the men from the boys."  Learning some is great, and the man should. But that is quite different than having serious discussions with a lady.  Interpreters are needed for that, IMHO.

I speak, read and write Russian, and I always meet girls without interpreters.  If I really like a girl, I'll even bust out my recitation of classic Russian poetry.

If someone says Russian is within their ability, they're speaking the truth.
If someone says Russian isn't within their ability, they're speaking the truth.
But the difference between them isn't their ability...  :rolleyes2:

I'll agree with Dan that is separates the men from the boys.   :D :D :D

My wife was born in Baku while her father was stationed there.  She returned to Ukraine when she was 5.  Does that make her Azerbaijani?

Hi Ronnie,

another good point..  I know plenty of FSU people who've had kids in Cyprus...  the Kids speak Russian, go to Russian schools, they even learn Greek, but ask the ones whose parents are from the FSU...

...they don't say "we're Cypriot" ;)

If you hold dual nationality, you can be both - so TECHNICALLY Doll and I were both right...  But using the example above - I know what the vast majority of kids of the Russian parents say to "Are you Cypriot or Russian" ? ;)

In the final analysis, each person is what he/she reasonably claims to be.  John claimed to be Irish and not unreasonably so.

Was he a typical Irishman? Maybe if you ask someone from the neighborhood where he grew up.  Other Irishmen, like Mark tell us no.  When I was in Dublin a few months ago, I didn't hear any employing the F word.  I know there are those who do, I just think they're a minority.

Is he typical American?  I think not, not only by his own words, by my knowledge of my fellow citizens. However, others may find him not unlike many they know.

To change gears, Dan raised a good point.  Did the women in the video, Maria in particular know that the vid would be posted on the internet?  Was it proper to post the part where John and Ed are using innuendo to insinuate that John had sex with her?

Gentlemen simply don't do such things.  Further evidence that John was no gentleman.  Does any RW really think that behavior is ok?

I think it is improper. Probably women could sue for this.

Nope.   But is was cameraman's who didn't edit those words from his commercial video.   And I even know why.

Ronnie, I am not saying suing in Russia, although it may be an option, too. As a lawyer who is also familiar with Russian courts, I don't think your reason on an uncle judge is allright.

However, seeing this movies I thought that they may have brought the filmed women in less favorable light, and eventually may be considered as vioaltion of their privacy, in case they have not given an expressed consent. Yes I know that it is just an allegation that would need considerable insight in the law.

There is a scientific assumption that  American Indians did come from Asia (Siberia) when Alaska and Siberia were connected. So they walked (no seas or oceans).
