You know you're married to a Russian women when:

1. You have no idea where anything is kept any more;

2. You know 50 external and internal uses for vodka;

3. You have a garden in the backyard grown solely from seeds from leftover fruits and vegetables.

4. You can't go any where without your wife taking a "clipping" from some plant or flowers.

5. You can actually park your car in the garage.

6. You realize that your dogs no longer respond to English.

Mark, good ones.  I can identify with the dog language.  Our dog is getting both languages.  Hopefully I can keep the hand signals the same.

I was told in no uncertain terms by a 7 year old, that dogs do understand Russian.  There are dogs in Ukraine, and they understand Russian.

Therefor my Lab understands Russian and the reason I did not know that, was because I do not talk to my lab in Russian.

Duck season is going to be Ochen Interesta next year.  The trainer is quickly going to whistle and hand signals Gator.  I want my boy to handle Lola during the hunt.  My Grandfather is up there somewhere just laughing.

I believe now, I disrupted most of the hunts.  Grandpa and I will enjoy every moment of it also.  My boy is chomping at the bit to go, and he will go through the learning process just as I did.  Thinking that Papa is the worst shot in all the world, until I know he is ready to see an animal killed. ::)

You know your married to a Russian Woman when:

Nothing is ever where you put it and she didn't touch it!

Glasses in the cubboard are no longer arranged by size

you hear those horrid noises from an appliance finally giving up(garabage disposal, vacuum cleaner, etc.)

she is always the coldest person in the room(contrary to a previous post)

you are always carrying that extra coat...even in the summer.

anything is fair game for a notepad.

no doesn't mean no, it means discussing the question until the answer is yes!

when the car has a dead battery it's time to buy a new car...even if it's like new!

you say hospita bislavey everytime you leave the house.

you can't have a conversation on the phone without being interrupted!

that cow better not moo after you cook it.

a door proped against the hotel door is SOP.

the old days of up and outta the house in 15 minutes is now a minimum of 2 hours.

you are transformed into a fashion judge.

I'm sure I can come up with others!  :D

"Glasses in the cubboard are no longer arranged by size"  :D :D

How about:

You know you're married to a Russian woman when you never, ever leave your house (no matter how short the trip will be) without enough fruit, snacks, etc. to live on for a minimum of 3 days.

I don't know about this. My wife does understand that car batteries can be replaced.

Never heard this before. However, the "h" at the beginning instead of the "g" makes me think it is likely Ukrainian.

Well, I am not sure this is the unique preserve of RW

You know you're married to a Russian woman when the thermostat is always set to 90 degrees because she thinks this will heat up the house faster.

I assume my transliteration isn't there! Basically it is asking God to watch after you and keep you safe.

I know I know... I'm so ashamed of that typo it's the reason I rarely post in here anymore.

Have even thought about asking Dan to correct it but then didn't want to draw attention to it...  errrr... thanks for drawing attention to it Sandro!

Another cultural difference ;D. For the past 40+ years I've been following the following procedure when I wash my dishes/glasses/tableware manually:

1. Rinse under warm running water - to remove most of the dirt.
2. Plug the sink, add some liquid detergent, hot water.
3. After about 1 hour, empty the sink and rinse again.

I'm not concerned about saving water, we have PLENTY of it where I live - and I haven't been married for the above-mentioned time span ;).

it's not about having plenty or not, it's about being aware of your environment, every day i learn something new, don't use too much plastic wrap (like in our airports, OMG-shockingly a lot of plastic wasted), don't waste water, etc  :o Never thought about these things before, but apparently they taught that at school in his place.

How worse? Possibly because you're down-levelling it to facilitate her comprehension - not unlikely what one does with children?

i apologize for hijacking the thread  :D but i just wanted to say, it may not be a good idea to simplify your language when talking to your wife, because if you use words she doesn't know, you gonna explain them to her, hence her english improves, instead of settling for some limited vocabulary that you use and she understands and her english doesn't improve as much.

Depends on the environment, and on having a broader perspective ;).

Milan's water comes from wells that draw it from underground strata. In earlier times, our suburban city area had many water-hungry heavy industries (steel mills, car and tyre factories, etc.), and that necessitated digging deeper and deeper to reach the water layer.

Over the past 20 years or so, most of them have disappeared - their locations having become a MUCH more valuable piece of real estate - and the water layer has risen back, to the point that they had to install pumps to keep dry some sections of our subway system - built when the water level was low.

Therefore, by consuming water, I'm reducing the flooding - and saving the city some KWH of energy to run those pumps :D
