Sculpt, why don't you fly her to Jamaica Mon? Lots of Weed and Russians don't need a Visa. You can live on the cheap and the country is English, nyet Spanish. Lots of Russians holidaying(sp?) there from NY and TO. Just got home from my Wedding, 'A' would love it.
I may have missed something, but why didn't you suggest Tomsk to her as a place to meet rather than Moscow or Mexico?? Her Papa is no longer alive, so what's the issue??
Mishenka, can you get Galina High Speed Internet? Skype works like Shiite without it. Sveta and I use a Panasonic system called JOIP which doesn't require your computer to be on and rings like a phone. Never fails and it's Free Free Free!!!

welcome back Utro..glad you had a good trip!

Jamacia might be cool.  I have always wanted to go there.  Right now it seems not likely though.

I will be talking with "A" over the next few days about going to Tomsk.  She has to be there in June for exams and the flights are really cheap right now.  I would like to buy a ticket in the next couple of days.  I could meet her in Moscow and take the train with her.  I know what her objection will be though and i need to find a way to convince her it is not an issue.

She will object because she is going there for exams and she will not have time to take care of me.  I will tell her that is perfect because I want to see her in normal everyday situations.  But, I know I am going to need a more convincing argument because she will feel guilty if she only has an hour or two for me each day.  I know she wants me to meet her Mom and Sister.. so.. if she brings up this objection any thoughts on how to "sell" her on the idea?

OK, she surprised me.  She has an objection but not the one I predicted.  She is worried that I will spend too much money and I don't have a job right now.  Her friend "A" is back from Pskov now so "A" will have internet access again on "M"s laptop so we will discuss it tomorrow.  :)

There is no objection to me going to Tomsk.  She is worried that I do not have enough $$$ to make a trip right now.  She is being practical, I am being impulsive.

earlier statement predicting it:
She will object because she is going there for exams and she will not have time to take care of me.  I will tell her that is perfect because I want to see her in normal everyday situations.  But, I know I am going to need a more convincing argument because she will feel guilty if she only has an hour or two for me each day.  I know she wants me to meet her Mom and Sister.. so.. if she brings up this objection any thoughts on how to "sell" her on the idea?

the response you wrote up for us:

Uh Sculpt, YOU were the one who presented this as an objection when you asked for help in dealing with it. Not once, but two or three times. First in your prediction, then in your reporting of her actual response.

her objection isn't about Tomsk, it is about me spending money right now in the midst of the crisis.  She wants me to go to Tomsk to meet her family..

in response to me saying.. "dont you want me to meet your Mom?"

"Yes I very want, but I not want you will have problem of money, you see I care to you?"

"A". I have money now and the airplane is very good price."

"ok, we will to talk in internet tomorrow"

Pull the bluff Sculpto. Tell her that you have money saved for such a trip and that the most wonderful time to visit Siberia is during their one summer month, July. Any other month is a crap shoot with the weather. Tell her you want to see Tomsk and meet her friends and family during the summer, not the 11 other months of winter ;) You want to go to summer dachas, swim in the rivers and lakes, sip champagnske at outdoor cafes, enjoy evening BBQ's, late night bonfires and fireworks, view the white nights, etc..... If you don't do this in July you'll have to wait for the next summer in 2010. She can't dispute this logic Sculpto!
BTW, has 'A' sent you any photos of her and her family together, recent ones? Sveta's Mum just passed away in February. She was beside herself with joy that I showed up a day before the funeral. A Russian Orthodox Funeral, although a very sad occasion, is to be experienced. I imagine an Armenian Funeral is too..... it's a shame you weren't there.

Utro..

Thanks!  That is exactly what I was thinking to say to her.. +- a few details.

She sent some photos from her Bday back in Feb with all of her friends and cousins.  I have seen her Mom on the webcam.  Their flat, while certainly not a palace is pretty nice.
