She went on to explain that there is a general feeling in the center of Kiev that too many men are arriving there with direct sex tourism purposes or to wave money at recently arrived village girls to buy them into marriage.

Furthermore she did not blame the foreign men nearly as much as she blamed the Ukrainian government for creating a free for all atmosphere with visa free entry and more importantly for not providing the basic infrastructure of an economy so that people would be able to fend for themselves and not seek to sell their lovely asses for survival.  BTW.. she accused Turks of being by far the worst perpetrators of sex tourism in Kiev.

This conversation took place in the atmoshpere of St. Petersburg which appears to be a rather prosperous city where she was somewhat in awe of some of the shops and blatant displays of wealth with the Lambo/Maserati crowd.

So I had a third date with "Art Store Girl" last night.  I picked the WRONG cafe for us to sit in.  We ordered the most expensive juice in the world, 800 ruble for two glasses of warm juice.

Its one of those things.. we were already seated in a lovely couch with a great view of Nevsky.. menu comes.. juice 400 a glass.. what do you do?  sorry dear its too expensive and get up and go?

So, I just considered it as couch rental and we sat there and had a lovely conversation for a couple of hours and nursed our juice.  Apparently she understood the game because she sipped more slowly than I did and never asked for anything else nor accepted when I offered.

So, this lady is turning out to be quite interesting in some ways.  She is very very old school and a total mystery.  She will not reveal much of anything but she will answer some direct questions but it if it is too personal she will say.. "its too soon I don't know you to answer it"  She laughs and giggles and nods a little when I say she is she a mystery and trying to make spagetti from my brains.  However, she is also very romantic and sweet and made a big deal about spending my last night with me later tonight.

Its been an amazing trip, the best of all my trips to the FSU, because of the ladies and most especially because of this amazing city.

I think it has more to do with ease of visa and better looking women in Ukraine as compared to Russia for more sex tourists in Ukraine.  Beauty and ease of travel is where the Arabs and Turks go.  Most American sex torusits go south not East.  Have no idea where Europe sex tourists go.

I don't know what a G man is other than FBI.  and I did say it happens to the best of us!!
it was only ironic to me because Sculpto was bragging about his ability to eat in Moscow or other big city for just $20, and here he pays more than $20 for two crummy glasses of juice!!  I always look at the menu (which is usually in the window by the entrance door) first before committing to any cafe or restaurant.

Sculpto chose the cafe and not the girl, so your outrage would be misplaced.

Now please answer the question, keeping in mind that Sculpto's goal that evening was not to screw up his relationship with this woman. How would YOU have done it, Brad, without making yourself look like a G-man or embarrassing your date?

reread my post.  I already answered your question.  I would have checked the menu BEFORE committing to the restaurant.  and it is still ironic as Sculpto was so insistant about his ability to find a bargain in the BIG city.  in fact he claimed that it would happen to me if I went to Moscow (that I would overpay for a restaurant).  you know the old saying, be careful what you wish for, and Karma will bite you in the rear end...

on the other hand, if he felt the sofa was compensation for the high prices (the ambiance, etc) than that was his decision to make, but it is still ironic because he was criticizing others (going to an overpriced restaurant for ambiance, etc.) for doing the exact same thing.

ps.  I also read guide books such as lonely planet etc looking for cafe/restaurant recommendations BEFORE I visit a city, so that I have already planned where I will take a date BEFORE I go on the date, so that I am in control of the ambiance/price balance to my liking.  so it does not happen to begin with.

That was my story about the RM, and you missed the point of the story.  He had chosen a restaurant, and she rejected it.  Nevertheless, don't assume that there are not RM who put up with selfish behaviour, which wasn't the case here.  Furthermore, if you're going to act like a RM, you're not going to be attractive to a woman who is looking for a foreign man.

that is your interpretation.  if we had 100 witnesses to the event, we would have about 100 different stories.  she made it clear she was rejecting the restaurant he chose because it was not expensive enough, glamorous enough, etc. for her taste.  who humiliated who??  she humiliated herself in my opinion.

It's really not that big of a deal or unheard of. Likely was a class swanky kind of joint with a minimum. It would have likely been 800 ru if they just sipped a cocktail or a beer apiece. If it bothers you, stick to your Lonely Planet guide. Sounds like some pricey rent when you look at the juice but, as you mentioned it was probably good ambiance with a great view. Likely worth the $25 bucks. Sometimes the situation calls for a class quiet joint for conversation and other times calls for a noisy feed trough. One should be flexible enough to recognize the difference IMO

Where do you guys meet all these greedy materialistic pro-dater women in the FSU? I've been there about ten times now and have yet to meet any. Could it have something to do with dating in your league?  Maybe its because the person meeting them thinks their pro-daters because he really cant afford to date women in a large world class city.

I paid that much years ago for fresh pineapple juice in Moscow.  It was winter and the restaurant bar cut up a whole fresh pineapple and put it through the juicer.

We did not have a second, and everywhere after that I told her "Anything but pineapple."  Then I introduced her to mojito cocktails.  She loved them.  Less expensive than ananas sok (sp?) and improved her mood.  Many ways to skin a cat.

We later went to Costa Rica where pineapples are essentially free.  One evening at a pool bar, I ordered a pina colada for her, served in a fresh coconut for about $5, while we watched lava erupt from the volcano.   Does it get any better than that?  Yes, she next ordered a mojito.
