I guess with Afghanistan winding down the US needs a new enemy to hate again.  Gotta justify those defense budgets bigger than the rest of the world somehow.

I believe we spend too much on national defense...and not enough on border enforcement.

I believe we get too involved in and actually foment other peoples in order to profit ultimately....it is not for their 'liberation' it is for our ultimate profit.

I believe we should focus our resources within our own country....and stop meddling with every other country...be more like practically every other relatively peaceful country..

I believe that a lot of people are overly critical of other regimes and should be focused on their own regime's indiscretions....I believe often it is those same people that tend to focus on what is wrong with others, while giving themselves a free pass...

The US  has had a fairly strong reaction to the commmunist government of Cuba for a number of decades. Why is Cuba of legitimate interest to the US, but Ukraine is not in the interests of Russia? It is not Russia that has been installing anti-missle systems into countries bordering the US....

Deccie,

Pro-Russian seperatists military not doing a very good job of defending themselves eh ?

Yesterday they shot down a Ukrainian Helicopter at Slavyansk, killing 14 Ukrainians ,using a portable air defence missile..the kind of equipment they'd find at the local corner shop..yes ?

This is the third helicopter they've shot down.

Never let facts get in the way of fantasy eh ?
Just saying it like it is.

and a lot of those bodies from Donetsk looked like civilians to me.

I didn't realise the prevailing fashion amongst the civil population of Donetsk now is to wear military fatigues.

I'm referring to those incinerated in the trade union building. You know, the 43 deaths there? Including people beaten to death after jumping to avoid the flames and smoke?

I've seen the photos of the bodies in the trade union building. Very few were wearing any kind of uniform.

In your post#70 you clearly mentioned Donetsk. The trade union building incident happened in Odessa. You need to get your facts straight.

Most of the Australians on forum show a lot of common sense. Even some who have posted  what I would call sympathetically To Russia in the current year  have had the common sense not to persist that line.
You are a bit late to the party and clearly ignorant( certainly far to ignorant to be lecturing others on how  russian think)--now you post this nonsense.
The fact is that many lives were saved by the "hostile " crowds outside the building in Odessa-- so please-- show some common sense or at least spend the time to get educated on topics before you post. Your post is both factually misleading and plain innappropriate.
If you are so dumb as to be believing anything coming out of Russia -- time to wake up.

Wow, that's a bit harsh against another Aussie. Maybe deccie was living in the remote outback for the last 6 months and had no ready access to international news. At least he sounds civil in his posts. That's much more preferable than one of those narcissistic conspiracy theorist posters that frequents this board.

Seriously, guys- it is Russian women discussion forum. Relationships and stuff like this.
Now it is stuffed with anti-Russian threads.
Are you crazy or what- to call President and the whole country names?
All respected forums ban threads like these, and here they are blooming and multiplying.
It is VERY disturbing.
Can we just go back to what this board was designed for?

Sweetie, honestly, don't bother. Just go.
There are shortcuts to happiness and dancing is one of them.

I do resent the fact that most people never question or think for themselves. I don't want to be normal. I just want to find some other people that are odd in the same ways that I am. OP.

FT, do you believe the US is an empire? Seems to me pretty clear it is and that many Citizens (here too, on RWD) feel empowered by such a show of force and kinda be a part of it even when living such small lives. I'm re-reading the book "Empire of Debt" from 2005 by Wiggins and Bonner. I suggest others do it too, especially those that love wrapping themselves around the flag of the indespensable people, like it was something novel in world history. The Americans need to get down a notch or two and I believe the currency situation will do it. No more free rides on the savings of the Asians, I think.

Well the argument certainly can be made that the USA has been wayyyyy to overactive in foreign affairs of the world.  Obama appears to be pivoting based in part on his comments yesterday like this:
“America must always lead on the world stage. If we don’t, no one else will,” Obama said. “But the U.S. military cannot be the only, or even primary, component of our leadership.”

Then you look today at the news and you finally see a couple positive developments like these:
http://news.yahoo.com/time-start-us-cuba-relations-us-commerce-chief-011547704.html;_ylt=AwrTWf2BH4lTiRoA5cDQtDMD

http://news.yahoo.com/venezuela-leader-praises-us-rejection-sanctions-140332115.html;_ylt=AwrTWVW_H4lTGSkAd1XQtDMD

This is only a start with Venezuela and Cuba, but I think this is a better approach then trying to dictate and foment....which we have definitely been guilty of.  That has simply stopped working as we are now getting push-back from every corner of the earth, and rightfully so.  From my perspective, it is a smart move by Obama to tread lightly regarding other nations...many of the worlds peoples are tiring of it, and the citizens of the USA generally don't support it either.

What the majority thinks has no basis in what is factual, sir.
Correlation is not causation as it were.

Funny how some people believe "common sense" can only reflect their own views.

I did wake up - and that is why I have left Australia for Russia. I do not like the "fuck you" attitude developing in Australia or the complete dismantlement of the social safety net.

As for Ukraine, what I  believe is that it is becoming a plaything for both sides in this conflict.  For Russia and for the US/Western interests and that the actual wishes of the people will be completely forgotten in all this. I also believe that the majority of politicians in Ukraine are completely corrupt regardless of their stated policy aims.

Do you think the interests of the Ukrainian people will be served by slashing wages and pensions as the IMF wants??

Regarding  the trade union fire, unless you think those inside committed suicide, someone lit that fire and even the Ukrainian press admits that some were killed by those outside as they tried to escape. Those FACTS are not in dispute.

And finally,  in future , SIR, try to keep a civil tongue in your head.

It looks like he has been in the most clueless centre of all--in Russia itself where the media is a propaganda tool and has very little to do with  factual info & news. Perhaps that explains the ignorance? Then he has the temerity to come and attempt to claim some type of superior knowledge !!  Like other Putin apologists who try to paint the very specific criticisms  being made of Putins Russia as being anti Russian !!

We have to face facts here....it has been YOU that have been claiming superior knowledge.    I don't think you possess that superior knowledge though, most of what you said has been dead wrong.  You are spraying one of many opinions here, and you are usually doing it in a tasteless manner in an effort to discourage other posters to express their own viewpoints that differ.

Fathertime, your analogy about Cuba and Ukraine is ridiculous. I can see a comparison with Guantanamo Base and Sevastopol. Sure, but back in the 60's, Kruschev actually told us that he will bury us. Presently, NATO and Ukraine and the West are NOT a military threat to Russia. So no comparison, no analogy. The people of Ukraine have the right to choose a Western path rather than a road similar to Putin's authoritarian regime. Russia does not want to allow them that choice. Russia is stirring things up in Ukraine, allowing mercenaries to cross the border into Ukraine with Russian weapons. Does Putin fear that NATO wants to conquer Russia? If so, that is truly paranoid and delusional. Putin is still living back in the cold war. And he apparently has no respect for his brothers who have also evolved from the Kievan Rus. Putin needs to help Russia evolve, for the good of his own people and the people of Ukraine.

Oh Yes, Australian and American news is just sooo factual! The only decent news in Australian TV can be found on SBS. Everything else is just plain drivel and in the US the only one that comes close is PBS. Propoganda is NOT a one sided affair here. The Us and others are as deeply involved in the propoanda war as  Russia is. It is you who are living in dreamland if you think manipulation of events  is a one sided affair.

It is fact that NATO has deployed it's anti ballistic missle system

into Poland.  Russia has said repeatedly that it views this system as a direct threat to the current MAD position with regards to nuclear weapons.

It seems like you are still of the naive view that the western countries are this democratic eutopia. They are not.  The choice is A or B or not to vote at all and the difference in policies between both sides is minimal.

The bankers control it all anyway or pehaps you don't understand much about fractional reserve banking.  Combine that with high frequency trading by computer algorithm in microseconds and you have no democracy at all.

The analogy between Cuba and Ukraine is simply one of Geography. What would be the US response I wonder if Mexico suddenly decided to align itself with Russia closely? I suspect the tanks would be rolling in already.

The CIA admitted just recently it was still inteferring in Cuba's affairs with a number of anti government projects so US interference did not stop with the end of the Cuba missle crisis.
