Actually, it could be a dealbreaker.
Some RW are very conservative likeAW and will not appreciate tattoos. I think I mentioned I don't care for a skull and crossbones. It might not be the best tattoo for a RW to accept. It is up to the individual and you will find liberal minded RW.

If it is a deal breaker, you will find out pretty quick-except in winter or if those tats are in intimate places. Then you might find out a little later than you want to.

I didn't want to state my opinion but since I/O said it I will just say I concur with his view of the subject.

Also, will someone please tell me how to do quotes from someone else's post?

I am reminded of one moment on my first visit to my future
wife. We had traveled to the outskirts of Nizhni Novgorod
where Mama had a dacha on a small tributary of the Volga.
It was in that water where Elvira discovered I had a tattoo
on my shoulder blade. She smiled, but confessed that where
she came from, such things rang of "mafia". Skull and crossbones?
No. But it did require some gentle explaining that the scroll
bearing the name "Kathy" was a mere indication that I came
with a past, to include a few regrettable moments, like
visiting a tattoo parlor.

See, I was pretty comfortable with the idea that it wouldn't be much of a problem and then ya'll go and re-enforce the idea that a conservative RW might not be able to accept tats. :(  My ex's name will be covered before I ever visit the FSU just because I don't want it anymore.  THAT one was incredibly stupid, I agree.  But the two on my shoulders will be there till my body decomposes in a casket.  :)  Also, the tat on my right shoulder is a fully eclipsed sun with a skull inside it.  That might be harder to explain than even a skull and crossbones.  :/   So should they be mentioned *before* visiting???

John, it's hardly a skeleton in the closet. Mine never came close to being
a dealbreaker, and my wife's extremely conservative on these issues.

John,
Maybe honesty is more a matter of degrees. We open up to each other as we grow. And perhaps there are things that are better left to face to face honesty, as opposed to information over a phone or over the internet. Just don't make it a long time between commencing communication with her and the first visit. Now you came out here and asked for advice, yes? Very experienced members have told you..."John, about 3 to 4 months between starting communication and visiting. This is what you should do." This issue of time between starting communication and meeting also relates to the tattoo issue.

You don't have to (and shouldn't) spill your guts out when you first meet someone. But when the time comes you do need to be forthright. You should also be thankful, that women aren't the visual creatures we men are.

Infantryman,

Let me first say "thank you" for your military service. I was never in the military and I like to say thanks to those who go for it to preserve democracy. About 3 years ago, I stopped two military gentlemen in Germany and thanked them and the response was, "We don't hear that very often." Most recently, a few weeks ago while in Germany, I stopped 2 GIs and offered my thanks, then I followed it up with, "And I'm not a Nancy Pelosi fan." They just smiled at me. But, thanks for your service.

I don't have any tattoos and I don't plan to get any. When I think of tattoos, it reminds me of the NBA players (I'm a Mavericks fan and am boo hooing). Tattoos look so nasty on those players, even the white guys. But, that's my opinion. I don't think tattoos look "cool." But, I also realize that many folks get em with a decision at a particular time in their life. I also think that tattoos are more widely excepted as they were 15 years ago. A lot of young people get them nowadays. It seems like the thing to do.  I would never judge anyone for having tattoos, and my guess is I don't think RW would judge you either. What's more important is who you are and how you treat a RW.

Mark

Good try, William...but what you need to do is to type your message BELOW where you see the second

"quote" in brackets

That way your message will be separate from the quote.  You can also delete parts of the quote if you feel so inclined...

Oh I respect all the military people and everything but that does not mean they need to have  the same tattoos all over their body it is not cool really
even 1 tattoo very very small  one is not nice to my mind , it again shows that this or that person wants to stress that hey take a look at me I am different and you are all just crowd  grey people  , not a smart person's thinking. That is true love for fame and silly showing off. Because well if you can not be individual within  your personality your character, your soul , then you try and decorate your body in order to be something special:P absolutely strange for me!

jazzy, you set a standard to how you precieve the world ,
and people in it,, what thier motivations are , and declare

"it is so"

but really isnt the truth that you  have no idea why a particular person gets, or has ,a tattoo?

the reasons very with the variuos personalities.

as far as people getting them to "hey look at me, i'm different"
you could be right that some people do this for this reason.

they also wear earings
 big diamonds, low cut shirts
short skirts , high heels ,.
dye thier hair and a million other things
that could also be for that reason, ,or any number of other reasons,

you dont like them (that's of course fine)
but lets be honest, you dont have them,
probably never will,
and really can only guess at why someone might have one.

you certainly have a right to make your judgements and opinions
but it is funny when you think about it,,

most body adornment is for what reason ?

Wether it is more  socially acceptable (earings)
or not,(tattoos)
the reason behind it is *generally* the same..

1. simple because the person likes them for some reason.
2.because they think it looks good or makes them motr eattractive or stand out as you mentiomed..

you cant escape it.
fundamentally any body adornment  , riungds, bracelets, neclace , tattoos,, etc etc ,,
serves what purpose?

now go back and read your own post with that fact in mind.

 ;)

for what it's worth , noone can see mine unless i'm wearing shorts, or not wearing a shirt..
very few people would ever guess i have them.
(i don't come across as the "type")

how does that fit into your  perception of why people have them?

my reasons are my own..but they had very very little to do with anyone seeing them, or me giving a flip if they did ..  ;)

not everyone has the same reason for wearing even something as simple as a hat you know?

LOL

Dear Aj:)

I never thought my post would strike you that much come on  you are absolutely adult smart person:) you  should not pay attention to Russian girl 's thinking especially to the one who is absolutely a grey crowd I am not denying this I am a grey crowd but at least I realise this:) and I am fine with this , I do not have any tattoos , no piercing in my belly button,no high heels, no shirt skirts well no skirts where people can see something at least ,only ears that is all what I have something done to my body only ears pierced that 's it:) ok :))))

Hey as Mark said I do not judge people like I wont come up to a person with tattoos and wont try and scold him \her saying hey you what have you done to yourself ahhaha of course not , I mean you tried to explain to me your reasons why you did that ? but I did not get you at all , you denied the version of showing off and you told that those tattoos are placed close to  intimate parts that people can not see them unless you are wearing something light or something , no matter. Just tell me What were your reasons to do them???

Cos you were in the military?  so what , you went to do things not to make tattoos:P

And why you guys are so bothered with my perception of the world a? you are not my fathers , you just always bring down my point of view , I mean that is me I think like that da I do , so what at least am honest and do not have double standards .

God please let you all be covered with tattoos , who cares that is your problems not mine or your girlfriends, as long as you are fine with them  everybody is fine I believe, I just told my original point of view about tattoos and why I will never have them , I never attack anyone who has tattoos I just told why I wont have them and why I do not like them that is all:))

it is all friendly here and I allow you:))))) to percept the world and things just how you like, please allow me the same thing!:)

See, I was pretty comfortable with the idea that it wouldn't be much of a problem and then ya'll go and re-enforce the idea that a conservative RW might not be able to accept tats. :(

My wife is about as conservative as they come.
She has been a schoolteacher most of her adult life.

She wanted this for herself, NOT to suggest "look at me, look at me" in public, but I think more as a single act of rebellion against "the establishment". Just speculation as I've never really asked her. The fact that she really wanted it, and not as an impulse, was good enough for me. FWIW her Ex-husband also had 2 military tatoos - 1 small on left chest and 1 large, high on right shoulder. It didn't bother her in the least.
Every action in company ought to be done with some sign of respect to those that are present. ~ Geo. Washington
